View 1 Replies View RelatedThis should be an easy one, so just humour this dim-wit. When organising folders, how do I change the details? I have the folder in the details view, and know how to change which details it shows, but can't for the life of me figure out how to actually change the individual details of each folder. eg add the 'Year' detail column, how do I input the year for each folder? this seems like the most obvious, simple thing but is alluding me at the moment.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP Pro and Office 2003. Whenever I use Windows Explorer or do "File-Open" on Office, for some folders I see the "Details" view, for others when I click on them the "Tiles" view, etc. Is there any way to force it to say "Details" view for all programs and folders?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to open a file or to get a directory listing in Windows explorer I have a delay of about 12 seconds. Before I get a listing (within a program) I see where it says at the top "Open - not responding". After eventually getting the listing I will be able to obtain another listing quite quickly while in that program. If I exit the program and go to another as from Word to Excel I again experience the slow listing and the "Open - not responding" before the listing shows. Long ago I had a similar problem where the listing took an even 30 seconds to appear and it was determined to be a virus. Nothing shows in any of my virus scans.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the following problem: Explorer doesn`t show any details for any media file type like artist or album, when choosing Details view. Additionally, clicking on file properties doesn`t show any info either, nor simple, nor in advanced view. The files are fine, and other software reads the media file info correctly, including WMP 11 and Winamp.

I love the Windows Explorer Document Tree View and I am so lazy that it bothers me to switch to the view each time I open a new window. Is there a way to set the default view to open folders with the document tree showing?I have tried switching it to the classic view, but that doesn't have the versatility of the full document tree. And, as another article has suggested, I added /e to my My Documents shortcut target, but that didn't help either.

Anyone know how to set a default for viewing files and folders . . . , i.e., I'd like to set as a default, the only useful file/folder view XP offers, which is "details", such that everytime I open any file/folder from any storage,I see the file/folder details without having to take the extra 10 minutes to adjust it by hand.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with the 'Show hidden files and folders' setting in the folder options. No matter how many times I try to set the computer to display hidden files and folders, the computer completely ignores it and resets it to 'Do not show hidden files and folders'. The account I am using while trying to change the setting is a admin account though not the default admin account. I have tried to change the setting in the default admin account and the same thing happens. I'm running XP Pro with SP2. As far as I can tell this problem started after I uninstalled a browser hijack program that got installed without my consent though I am not positive that this problem did not start before the browser hijacker problem occurred. I'm assuming the registry is corrupted and short of reinstalling windows I don't know how to fix the problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I double-click a file (or folder) in Windows Explorer, by default the computer opens the file or folder in another program (Virus Scan) and begins to scan it. Obviously, I don't want this. Normally, I should be able to hit ENTER, double-click, or right-click and select the first option, which should be open the folder or file in Explorer. However, this is not so, and I can't figure out what Default setting I changed in order to change the Default operation for any files or folders I select. I've poked around in the File Types tab of Folder Options (for Explorer) but this doesn't work

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen you try to save an image in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the image will only save by the default bmp only. For example, when you right-click an image on a Web page, and then click Save Picture As, the file name that appears is Untitled, and the file type that appears is .bmp, instead of the right file name and type. This behavior occurs when a Damaged or Unknown program file (active or java) is downloaded to the downloaded program files folder. To troubleshoot and resolve this, empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder, and then delete any files in the Downloaded Program Files folder that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst things first: WinXP Pro, SP2 fully up to date but system restore is turned off.Trying to get Windows Explorer to export a directory tree to a text file the other day instead of doing it via command line, I messed something up and can't get it back. In Explorer, this is where I was: Tools >> Folder Options >> File Types >> File Folder >>I managed to insert the script that I wanted, but somewhere along the way I made a mistake and set it to Default. Now, whenever I click on an folder in Explorer it runs whatever is set as default. I can "Default" a lot of things (enqueue in Winamp, play in VLC Media Player, Find, etc) but none of them is the simple "Open" command. I looked around at a couple other things (namely "Folder" and Firefox) in the File Types box, and while they both have Open commands included, I can't "Edit" them to see what kind of command they are running.

I just added a "Directory List Print" to my right click options and somehow the default choice (highlighted at the top of the list) changed from "open" to "search".
Apparently the default selection governs what happens when you left click. I want to restore "open" as the default choice, but can't figure out how. Does it require a reg edit or a utility program or what? TIA
i would like to know how i can set explorer, in xp, to permanently have the "folders" tab on. what i'm after, is that folders list that appears on the left when the "folders" tab is clicked. it makes moving files aroud simple and quick, and having to click the "folders" tab every time i open a folder annoys the hell out of me.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to make files and folders mingle together when using details view in Windows XP? The way it works now, the folders are always grouped separately from the normal files. I typically sort by filename and I'd like the folders to be mixed in with the files, sorted by name just as if they were regular files themselves.I know this isn't an error condition, but it is an annoyance. Please post a reply if you know a fix or workaround for this.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen I would open up folders and Windows Explorer would have an error message and then it would refresh my computer and close all Windows Explorer Window(s). Ive researched quite a bit in my spare time in the past two days and found that it could be related to ntdll.dll. But in my research I haven't really found any solutions, yet it almost seems like a common/uncommon problem.
I have done a few system restores all of which were unable to return to a previous state. I am up to date on the latest virus/spyware/adware definitions and ran scans using: Norton Internet Security 2007, Spy Sweeper, AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Stinger......
If I keep any folder open for longer than like 7 seconds, explorer.exe encounters a problem and needs to close, I can usually just drag the error to the corner and keep looking at the folder for about 20 more seconds before it crashes completely, sometimes explorer shuts off with no warning while viewing a folder. I have tried the remove defective right click menu buttons thing and scanning for viruses, but it still does it, tell me if you want more info.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was testing my FTP server tonight and when I connect to the home directory there's two folders that show up (RECYCLER and System Volume Information) in the home directory that shouldn't be there. When I go into my home directory in Windows Explorer these folders don't show up there, even if I choose to show the hidden files. If I can't get these folders to show up in Windows Explorer I can't exclude them from showing up in my FTP Server software. Is it possible that they show up in my FTP client because I'm connecting to the same machine the server is on? That's all I can come up with.
