I have Windows XP Pro and Office 2003. Whenever I use Windows Explorer or do "File-Open" on Office, for some folders I see the "Details" view, for others when I click on them the "Tiles" view, etc. Is there any way to force it to say "Details" view for all programs and folders?
View 4 RepliesI love the Windows Explorer Document Tree View and I am so lazy that it bothers me to switch to the view each time I open a new window. Is there a way to set the default view to open folders with the document tree showing?I have tried switching it to the classic view, but that doesn't have the versatility of the full document tree. And, as another article has suggested, I added /e to my My Documents shortcut target, but that didn't help either.

I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy "Recycle Bin" will not display the files within it with the correct filters while in the "Details" view.For example, I have the "View" set to "Details", and the two columns I have showing are "Name" and "Type", with "Name" selected as the preferred sort order.With those settings in place, the "Recycle Bin" is not displaying the files in the correct order.I am not sure of the order that it is displaying them, as I can't pick-up on any pattern.

I have the folder in the details view, and know how to change which details it shows, but can't for the life of me figure out how to actually change the individual details of each folder. eg add the 'Year' detail column, how do I input the year for each folder? this seems like the most obvious, simple thing but is alluding me at the moment.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I keep any folder open for longer than like 7 seconds, explorer.exe encounters a problem and needs to close, I can usually just drag the error to the corner and keep looking at the folder for about 20 more seconds before it crashes completely, sometimes explorer shuts off with no warning while viewing a folder. I have tried the remove defective right click menu buttons thing and scanning for viruses, but it still does it, tell me if you want more info.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI like my explorer in the "classic style" with the Folders bar down the side and all files listed in "detail", but since the last couple of automatic Windows updates, it no longer starts up with the Folders bar, which I have to manually click every time, and shows all files in icon by default. Until today, if I click on View Detail, Windows remembered this for that particular folder, and over time all of my regularly visited folders would start up in detail, so the manual configuration was only minimal. Today, however, all files in all folder are back to icons as default, and Windows no longer remembers the detail setting when I revisit folders.

They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
Whenever I point to some files in Windows Explorer or similar program a yellow "sticky note" displays with either the filename or occasionally a summary of the details of the file such as Date Modified, Size etc. I find it really annoying since it covers up an area such as other files etc.I have tried "Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP" and "EnableBalloonTips" registry entry is already set to '0' plus I even recreated and still no go...still appears. Does not appear on every file but once in a while it will happen/
i can't open my desktop folders including shortcuts..when I go to start, i can only open recenlty used programs but not my documents, my computer, control panel & all the tabs on the right field...also when I close a program, the window display still remains on the desktop.by left clicking the current program window i'm using and dragging it around, i can sort of erase the previously used windows.i can only correct this by restarting xp.do i have a virus? pls give me step by step guide to fix this.

View 13 Replies View RelatedIn addition, Adobe reader is viewable in administrator profile, but will not open as the local power user. This is a non-networked computer, so everything is installed locally. I went to give the user full control of the Adobe folder, but the Security tab is not available or an option, even in the administrator profile. Rebooted, same issue. Logged in thru PC Anywhere, same issue, for both.

Software is XP SP3.I have been using XP to view/edit several subfolders of jpegs stored in a Kodaks Folder. I prefer to usthe "filmstrip view". I am able to rename file name from something like 101_2900 to kidname whatever, but the new name never appears onscreen unless I either force a F5 screen refresh or back out and re-enter the file folder. I can probably edit photo names in Corel Paint Shop Pro or another program, but this is just driving me nuts.Sometimes when I turn on the computer and decide to rename files, the new names appear immediately without refreshes, ect. Just wonder if I am missing a file property setting or something basic that I haven't noticed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnd of course you can go in and change it to sort by "Type" or view as "Icons" or "Thumbnails" but as so as you close it it reverts, and the next time you open it it will be back to "List" view, arranged by "Name."Having it sorted by name is acceptable, so as i said it never really bothered me, but now one of my computers is sorting by "Modified" which is just not working for me.So basically I'm trying to find out if there is a way to change the default folder/file view in these basic Open, Save, Save As, etc dialog box's.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I allowed MS to do the hotfix and upade thing, it installed IE7 in one of the updates, so now the tool bar with File Edit View Favorites and all the other stuff is gone, anybody know how to get it back,I opened my file explorer and checked if I still had a favorites folder under my user name and I did, so I made a copy of it, when I opened my IE next time the toolbar was the MSN tool bar, am I going to have to stop this again?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).
