View 14 Replies View Relatedsolution for hiding file extensions for known file types... even after reboot? I know nobody likes to hide them, but I do and I have tried EVERYTHING! I have checked it under Folder Options, I have tried setting it in my registry, I have increased BagMRU Size to 8000+, I have even tried silly batch files suggested through web page research and no matter what I do windows xp pro will never remember the setting after reboot and show the extensions. Is there anyway to fix this annoying problem so what I set in folder options or in my registry remains as I have set it after reboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
I was installing Norton Security and it locked up during install When I rebooted, Norton had changed all my files extensions from exe to lnk

Locate where it lists Hide extensions of known file types and uncheck it

View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded microsoft frontpage extensions resource zip file and accidentally sent the extracted files to desktop. (119 files) I did not save the file at download but just ran the zip file and the extracted files opened in desktop. I deleted the files from my desktop and recycle bin. Every time I start/reboot, these 119 files continue to open, cluttering my desktop. I need the formula/pathway to follow to get to the destination in regedit.exe hkey_current_user start up folder with instructions on how to delete these extracted files so they will stop opening to my desktop at start.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI gotta be missing something basic, but this is just a real nuisance for me. Would appreciate any thoughts. Software is XP SP3.I have been using XP to view/edit several subfolders of jpegs stored in a Kodaks Folder. I prefer to usthe "filmstrip view". I am able to rename file name from something like 101_2900 to kidname whatever, but the new name never appears onscreen unless I either force a F5 screen refresh or back out and re-enter the file folder. I can probably edit photo names in Corel Paint Shop Pro or another program, but this is just driving me nuts.Sometimes when I turn on the computer and decide to rename files, the new names appear immediately without refreshes, ect. Just wonder if I am missing a file property setting or something basic that I haven't noticed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnd of course you can go in and change it to sort by "Type" or view as "Icons" or "Thumbnails" but as so as you close it it reverts, and the next time you open it it will be back to "List" view, arranged by "Name."Having it sorted by name is acceptable, so as i said it never really bothered me, but now one of my computers is sorting by "Modified" which is just not working for me.So basically I'm trying to find out if there is a way to change the default folder/file view in these basic Open, Save, Save As, etc dialog box's.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen double clicking the actual file, Windows reports "windows cannot find file ... <file name.exe>"
This is only SOME exe's. Particularly, older programs. Word, excel, WordPerfect all work. Older apps don't.
I've tried the exe fixes on dougknox.com site and kelly's corner XP fix.
Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Seems like a simple thing, but I can't get XP to understand that's what I want.

The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed,
