Go to control panel, folder options. Click on the File Types tab. Scroll to the file extensions you want to change and click change. Select the program you want. But it will not let me apply it as the apply button is grayed out.

I have checked it under Folder Options, I have tried setting it in my registry, I have increased BagMRU Size to 8000+, I have even tried silly batch files suggested through web page research and no matter what I do windows xp pro will never remember the setting after reboot and show the extensions. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. I just got into a little trouble with my explorer. Whenever I double-click on a folder, it opens in a new window, not in the same one. I even changed "folder option>>general>>open each folder in same window" but with no result. I was actually trying to change the icon for the 'file folder' and I dont really know what I did (went to 'folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced>>change icon....but I changed the icon back to the original icon again) , but from that time, I am unable to change it back to open folders in the same window. In the 'actions' (folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced) section (after i changed the icon) all I could see was a 'find' option. It was opening 'search' window every time I double clicked on a folder, so I created a new action called open and selected 'explorer' as the application to use and then set this 'open' as default. Although it solved the initial problem of opening the 'search' window, it still opens every folder in a new window.

(119 files) I did not save the file at download but just ran the zip file and the extracted files opened in desktop. I deleted the files from my desktop and recycle bin. Every time I start/reboot, these 119 files continue to open, cluttering my desktop. I need the formula/pathway to follow to get to the destination in regedit.exe hkey_current_user start up folder with instructions on how to delete these extracted files so they will stop opening to my desktop at start.

I lost a file from my file server yesterday that was extremely important by accidentally deleting it when on my local computer. I am running win2k. When I delete a file from my computer it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete a file from my file server, which is using win2k as well, it does not go to the recycle bin on either computer. Is there any I can tell the file to go to the recycle bin when they are deleted

I have my My Documents on my physical second D: drive while all my programs and the OS are on the C: drive. In the My Documents folder is the My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns icons for and doesn't allow you to change the look of them.
I had been backing up this internal 60GB D:My Documents to an external 120GB USB drive. I decided to put the external one into the computer because I bought another external 160GB drive for backup.
OK, everything is fine, but the icons for My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns are no more, they are just plain looking folders, but I can't customize them because these are the special folders that XP assigns for their specific use.
Does any one know what might have happened? Is it possible that the different serial number of the drive, or something else may have messed things up?
Well that ended up on my pc,I had no antivires protection when it appeared on my computer.I now have macfee antivires protection...when I installed it I ran a complete full scan on my pc,then after that was done I restarted my pc then when logging back on I lost my start menu bar an all of my icons,now trying to restore them back but, can only use my windows task management.Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI lost the My Music and My Pictures icons on the start menu. I moved My Documents and was prompted to move the current items. I said (stupidly) yes. I noticed I had 2 music and picture folders in My Documents. I deleted the Folders that had been moved when I reloacated. When I went back to the start menu, My Music and My Pictures were gone. I looked in properties, and the two items were selected. I went to the registry and the entries for music and pictures were gone in UserShellFolders and ShellFolders. I recreated the entries. After all of this, there are still no icons for Music and Pictures on the start menu.
