The problem is that when I try to change folder/file attributes, I click on Apply and OK. Once that is done, the attributes reset back to what it was before.I've tried to unset "Read-Only" for a folder, but it stays Read-Only. Any way to fix this?
View 7 RepliesI have a graphics editing program that won't save to My Pictures folder because it can't overwrite an older version of the same file name claiming that the folder is read only. I've change the attributes over and over and it defaults back to that immediately so I can't edit my pictures and get rid of the old version without deleting it first. How can I get the attribute change to stick?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThey are all files that I copied from my own cds, not from the internet, and do not have 'tag'information. All 750 of them, except for 8, show up as'Track 01', or 02, 03, etc. When I looked at the file properties of the 8 files that *did display their titles on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab, in the 'track title' field, it was BLANK. Under the 'general' tab, the actual title of the file was listed correctly.
The files that did *not have their correct titles listed on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab in 'file properties' in XP, had a title like 'Track 01' listed. Under the 'general' tab of file properties however, the actual title of the song was listed correctly. Is there a way I can go in and mass edit out the 'Track 01' title from all those files? Does this indicate some other problem?
On my portable computer on which I have made a briefcase, I moved some files into it. When I try to update, hoping it will update my home computer, it say some files are read-only and these files were not updated. It is only the files I move in. When I check properties on the individual files, it say they are not read-only. When I check properties on the folders in the briefcase however, the read-only is checked and when I uncheck and go back in, it still is read-only. I am using XP Home Edition.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAnd of course you can go in and change it to sort by "Type" or view as "Icons" or "Thumbnails" but as so as you close it it reverts, and the next time you open it it will be back to "List" view, arranged by "Name."Having it sorted by name is acceptable, so as i said it never really bothered me, but now one of my computers is sorting by "Modified" which is just not working for me.So basically I'm trying to find out if there is a way to change the default folder/file view in these basic Open, Save, Save As, etc dialog box's.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. I just got into a little trouble with my explorer. Whenever I double-click on a folder, it opens in a new window, not in the same one. I even changed "folder option>>general>>open each folder in same window" but with no result. I was actually trying to change the icon for the 'file folder' and I dont really know what I did (went to 'folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced>>change icon....but I changed the icon back to the original icon again) , but from that time, I am unable to change it back to open folders in the same window. In the 'actions' (folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced) section (after i changed the icon) all I could see was a 'find' option. It was opening 'search' window every time I double clicked on a folder, so I created a new action called open and selected 'explorer' as the application to use and then set this 'open' as default. Although it solved the initial problem of opening the 'search' window, it still opens every folder in a new window.

The reason is because I had to recreate the My Pictures and My Music folders a while back when I had to create a new account and delete a previous one due to having lost my password. Right now they simply look like plain folders on the Start Menu. (Using Windows XP Start Menu) If the folder you want to change is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search. Right-click the folder you want to change, and then click Properties. On the Customize tab, under Folder pictures, click Choose Picture. Click the picture you want to use to identify the folder in Thumbnails view. To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents. You must be in Thumbnails view to see the folder picture. To switch to Thumbnails view, on the View menu, click Thumbnails. In Thumbnails view, Windows displays up to four images from your folder on the folder icon by default. The images Windows displays are the last four images you modified. So I did what it said and went to the properties for the folder. But for some reason, there was no cutomize tab.

Cleaning it up to sell, and I've renamed the Administrator's name, removed all software, changed the computer name for my network, in essence, getting it ready to sell. But in the Documents and Settings folder is a sub-folder with her name. When I try to change the name XP says no, it's a system file. Short of hacking the registry, how can I change the name.
When downloading files, I currently get this error message.Cannot be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder.

You can imagine this is pretty slow.If I detach the drive first, Windows just picks another random data partition on my hard drive. It never looks to C:. Does anyone know how to change this? I've tried searching the web for info, but when you enter theterms "extract", "folder", and "patch", you get a lot of useless information on where to download patches and how to run them.I'm sure this is a registry setting some place, but searching for my external hard drive's letter isn't getting me anywhere.

OK, so I migrate to XP (SP2) and now I want to change the attributes of that folder back to standad - it's a legibility issue... :-) However... What I mean is: I insert a flash card into my PC and transfer a folder onto the flash card. The icon of the folder will change from what it was on my PC to a generic folder on the flash drive.
