Can anyone tell me if it's possible to hide the attributes of a file, without hiding the file itself. I've got a file in a folder, and even if I set the advanced security properties so that the 'Read Attributes' permission is denied, anyone with access to the folder can still see the access times etc
View 2 Repliessolution for hiding file extensions for known file types... even after reboot? I know nobody likes to hide them, but I do and I have tried EVERYTHING! I have checked it under Folder Options, I have tried setting it in my registry, I have increased BagMRU Size to 8000+, I have even tried silly batch files suggested through web page research and no matter what I do windows xp pro will never remember the setting after reboot and show the extensions. Is there anyway to fix this annoying problem so what I set in folder options or in my registry remains as I have set it after reboot.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThey are all files that I copied from my own cds, not from the internet, and do not have 'tag'information. All 750 of them, except for 8, show up as'Track 01', or 02, 03, etc. When I looked at the file properties of the 8 files that *did display their titles on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab, in the 'track title' field, it was BLANK. Under the 'general' tab, the actual title of the file was listed correctly.
The files that did *not have their correct titles listed on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab in 'file properties' in XP, had a title like 'Track 01' listed. Under the 'general' tab of file properties however, the actual title of the song was listed correctly. Is there a way I can go in and mass edit out the 'Track 01' title from all those files? Does this indicate some other problem?
On my portable computer on which I have made a briefcase, I moved some files into it. When I try to update, hoping it will update my home computer, it say some files are read-only and these files were not updated. It is only the files I move in. When I check properties on the individual files, it say they are not read-only. When I check properties on the folders in the briefcase however, the read-only is checked and when I uncheck and go back in, it still is read-only. I am using XP Home Edition.

I recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
I read the advice to start in safe mode to delete files that gave the errror message cannot delet file - source file not found. They wouldn't delete in Safe Mode either. I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.

I am not sure how far the direcroty goes, but I have counted to at least 26 directories deep. I cannot delete the parent folder in either explorer, or from the prompt. When I right click a par2 & select "open with", it defaults to the wrong program, and the correct one (Quick Par) is not listed. I lost a file from my file server yesterday that was extremely important by accidentally deleting it when on my local computer. I am running win2k. When I delete a file from my computer it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete a file from my file server, which is using win2k as well, it does not go to the recycle bin on either computer.
