Changing The File/folder Attributes Are 'read Only'?
Aug 20, 2005On a CD I have burned, the file/folder attributes are 'read only'. How do I change them to 'archive'?

Cannot Change Folder & File Attributes?
Apr 19, 2008The problem is that when I try to change folder/file attributes, I click on Apply and OK. Once that is done, the attributes reset back to what it was before.I've tried to unset "Read-Only" for a folder, but it stays Read-Only. Any way to fix this?

Dec 11, 2005I have a graphics editing program that won't save to My Pictures folder because it can't overwrite an older version of the same file name claiming that the folder is read only. I've change the attributes over and over and it defaults back to that immediately so I can't edit my pictures and get rid of the old version without deleting it first. Aug 11, 2005They are all files that I copied from my own cds, not from the internet, and do not have 'tag'information. All 750 of them, except for 8, show up as'Track 01', or 02, 03, etc. When I looked at the file properties of the 8 files that *did display their titles on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab, in the 'track title' field, it was BLANK. Under the 'general' tab, the actual title of the file was listed correctly.
The files that did *not have their correct titles listed on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab in 'file properties' in XP, had a title like 'Track 01' listed. Under the 'general' tab of file properties however, the actual title of the song was listed correctly. Is there a way I can go in and mass edit out the 'Track 01' title from all those files? Does this indicate some other problem?
File Attributes Won't Allow Update On Home Computer?
Jul 27, 2005On my portable computer on which I have made a briefcase, I moved some files into it. When I try to update, hoping it will update my home computer, it say some files are read-only and these files were not updated. It is only the files I move in. When I check properties on the individual files, it say they are not read-only. When I check properties on the folders in the briefcase however, the read-only is checked and when I uncheck and go back in, it still is read-only. I am using XP Home Edition.

Sep 1, 2010I have files in my recycle bin. My recycle bin shows nothing when I open the folder but there is 6 items in the folder. Jul 18, 2005I cant deleted this file on my desktop. It is an empty file(0 bytes), I tried renaming it and tried deleting it in safe mode. still I get " Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I did a search for the file and nothing shows! not even the actual file that is on my desktop. So used "registry cleaner" to see if it will delete it...nope. I tried safe mode again and the same problem. I ran AVG, Norton, Escan, Hijack, all came clean. nothing wrong.

Aug 10, 2007The other day, I moved some files+folders outside of a folder just to organize things. I tried to put them back inside and I kept getting the "Cannot move file, it's being used.." error. I was pretty sure I wasn't using any of the files so I checked the permissions to find that under the security tab, inside the "Group or user name" was completely empty without any user names. I fixed it by adding my user name. This has happened before. A few months ago, I couldn't access any folders and files in this one particular folder without getting the "Acess denied" message. I found out that all my files and folders within that folder had no user names under the security tab which was a pain because I have over 100s of files in there and the only sure way to change the permission is to do them almost one by one.
I was wondering if there were any particular reason why it's doing this. I'm pretty sure that this computer is virus free and I almost never turn off the "Use simple file sharing" under the folder tool section. I've only played around with the permissions once over 5 months ago and I haven't touched it since. Also, is there a way to change every permission within one folder so that I won't have to do them manually one by one?

Apr 26, 2007I hope someone knows the solution to this.On the favorites bar in IE6, when you click on the default folder icon it changes to an open folder as the list of links expands. I changed the yellow folders to different colors but would like to be able to have them change to an open folder of the same color when clicked on rather then staying as the same icon. Does anybody know of a way to do that? I know there must be a different path to the 2 icons (open and closed). I have made the icons in the colors I want in both open and closed but can't figure out how to get it to work.

May 6, 2007Is there a setting in XP home and pro where you can set the number of pixels in the name from 180, which appears to be standard, to about 300 and have it reset all the files in folders set to open in "details" but do it all at once (registry or somewhere else), so I won't have to change this setting for each folder set to open the files with "details". I've got all this space out in the right 1/3 of the window and I would just like to set all the folder options which are to open with the "details view" to open with the file name at about 300 pixels instead of 180 pixels, so I won't have to reset each one manually.

Now when I start up the Works word processor and I use the "Open" function, it always opens in "My Documents". When I use "WordPad" it opens in the last folder used. Is there a way to make the Works word processor act like this? If not, is there a way to change the default opening folder? (Also is there a way to change the default location where a file is saved?)
Also, since this is closely related, I'll ask this: When you use the Open function in the Works wp, you get the "Open" dialog box. At the bottom there is a drop down box called, "Files of type". It always opens with "Works Document (*.wps). If you click the drop down box, one of the options is "All Files (*.*). Is there a way to change it to this?
