Jul 18, 2005
I have a folder in My Documents that has set up permanent residence there. No matter what I do I cannot get rid of it. The message that I get is, "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk."
I have a problem with my USB its a 16gig model but when i go into the folder.where the dubious files are i cant not delete them or cant copy files from the USB itself anyway usb is now 116gig because if this how.cannot delete file:cannot read from the source disk.plz help me i need my USB urgently.what software can i use the lose the error so i can delete.
I'm trying to delete programs I dont use anymore, and hava a couple which are not showing up in add-remove programs, so I do a search for those programs and find them. The problem I'm having is when I click on the file (s) and then click on delete I get the following error message: cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk.
I made a folder (right click/new folder) on my desktop and used it to keep some files I received organized. When I was done with the job, I erased everything and when I went to delete the folder, it tells me: Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk.
I have tried deleting it on boot (?) but those programs only delete files not folders.
I have files in my recycle bin. My recycle bin shows nothing when I open the folder but there is 6 items in the folder. I have tried to delete them through C: ecycler but when I try that I get an error on the bottom of my screen that says The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
after a search, when I click on a file and try to delete it, do I often get a msg. saying: Cannot delete file:Cannot read from the source file or disk If it found it for the search, why can't if read it from the source file or disk
I cant deleted this file on my desktop. It is an empty file(0 bytes), I tried renaming it and tried deleting it in safe mode. still I get " Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I did a search for the file and nothing shows! not even the actual file that is on my desktop. So used "registry cleaner" to see if it will delete it...nope. I tried safe mode again and the same problem. I ran AVG, Norton, Escan, Hijack, all came clean. nothing wrong.
My comp recently just caught an virus and I have tired many anti-virus programs to remove it and so far, no luck.Avast reported the file that is infected, but is unable to delete it. So I decided to check it myself, it's a file in my systems/drivers and when I tired to delete it. It saids the following "Cannot delete uwvwibuv: Cannot read from the source file or disk.". I have tired using "Unlock" to delete it, doesn't work.Note, this virus is also causing all my anti-virus programs not to connect online, so I cannot update them. I have tried using Malwarebytes-antiware, doesn't detect it. I can't use system restore because it's being blocked by group policy after "I caught the virus" (Worked before).I had tired running in safe mode, checking task for unknown programs, and I can't delete it.
I have a folder on my C drive that does not have a name. I am unable to move or delete, or rename the folder. It contains no sub-folders or files. I get the message " cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk.
I have Bit defender pro 9. Now whenever i download a key logger or any other type of p2p or malicious program i can't open it, but i can't delete it either. This is the meessage i get. I tried FXP delte and GSO but they said the device attached to this system file is not functioning correctly. So how can i delete it. I think it is bit defender causing the problem but i don't know for sure. Can anyone help me delete these files and also run them AND also when i try to run or delete or even click on it will pop up and bit def will say virus alert pc not affected. Also tells me the path mostly it is in my application data. But when i go there and try to delete i can't either.
I usually backup my weeks work on Friday afternoons. What I do is run a "search" for all files created or modified within the last 7 days and then "copy" all relevant files to a folder on an external hard drive, and then burn a CD.
Everynow and then, I get the following message. "Cannot Copy File: Cannot Read From the Source File or Disk"
I am encountering this error when copying a large number of files from one external hard drive to another. I have Windows XP. A number of files will copy prior to the error occurring. The error occurs when the copying process reaches a file that my Trend Micro security software had identified as a virus and had quarantined. Instead of simply skipping the file that cannot be copied and moving to the next, Windows Explorer displays the error "Error copying file: cannot read from source or disk" and aborts the copying process, leaving the copying process only partially complete. Copying each folder or file individually to avoid encountering the error would be very time consuming.
I have a 0 byte file setting on my desktop I can't get rid of. The error message says "cannot delete file. cannot read from source file or disk." Nor can you cut, copy, rename or do anything else with it. I googled the error message and have tried a number of suggestions without help, i.e.: safe mode and command prompt, etc. I tried Move on Reboot without success. I even resorted to restoring back prior to before the time this started without success. It was originally a business email that I saved to my desktop. When I opened the email to read it this icon appeared. when I deleted the original email this one stuck around and around and around. There must be some registry edit or something else I can do to get rid of it.
I am running windows xp sp3. I tried to uninstall Frost Wire, via add or remove programs. I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. When I right clicked on them and tried to delete, that is when I received the above error message
I'm having a problem "finding" my music files after I moved some files around on the computer between users. My simple solution was to copy them to an external HD and the re-load them so I searched for all music files then selected all and attempted to copy them to the external HD, but I got an error message: "cannot copy file.cannot read from the source file or disk".
I read the advice to start in safe mode to delete files that gave the errror message cannot delet file - source file not found. They wouldn't delete in Safe Mode either. I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.
I am connecting to a client's server via a VPN connection using Remote Desktop Connection on my XP home system.I have to run reports, convert to excel and then need to either print the report or transfer it to my local drive or a USB stick. I have checked access to local drives and printers, like I have in the past, but I can't get the file to print or transfer. My printers aren't listed as installed and when I copy and attempt to past on the local machine, I get an error that the source and file disk are not available
My daughter has asked for help with the removal of music from her mp3.When she tries to move or delete anything she gets a message saying 'cannot read from the source file or disk'. As I know absolutely nothing about mp3's I said I would try here.
When I start up, I get a black screen with this: Disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart So I do. Same thing happens. I don't have any CDs or anything in the drive. The computer had also been shutting down randomly on me prior to this.
i recently attempted to format my computer as it was going very slowly, i did the usual process of inserting the recovery cd's which came with the computer however this time the process did not complete, i left it for over an hour and the screen still remained the same. I decided to restart the computer and a message keeps coming up, disk read error press ctrl alt delete. I tried formatting again but all i get is a blank screen even before its begun, i tried using windows xp cd's
window loads, sits, finally other half will load, mouse just doesn't seem to do anything so you click again and 3 minutes later 2 of whatever will finally open... just annoying crap really A few days ago comcast went off and I had to unplug modem, wait, then plug back up and restart system. I got a "Disk read error press control, alt, delete, to restart" error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
I just bought a used computer (which is installed with Windows XP Pro). I've set up an Administrator account on that computer, but it will not allow me to delete a certain folder, which used to belong to the previous owner of the computer. The folder is an old user-account folder (it belonged to the previous owner of my computer). Please tell me how to delete the folder. So far, I've done the following things to delete it:1. Right-clicked the folder, and selected: "Delete"2. Right-clicked on the folder, selected: "Properties", and changed the "Security Settings" and modified the "Owner" privileges.3. Used File Shredder and tried to delete the folder with that program.I do not have an Windows XP Pro "Restore Disk".
I got a file in a folder that I can't delete. When I try to do that always got the message that the file is in use. I already restarted the pc but it keeps saying the same thing. The file is not a system file, it's a normal user file.
Going through work computer trying to delete large amounts of old files. Some of them are just photos (part of work practice). I can not access them, to open them for viewing, nor delete them. Not part of old programs, just photos or .docs. Problem One: Opening a specific folder A. First: causes major delay when I try to access the folder A Second: Error Msg reads: The disk in drive C is not formatted. Do you want to format it now? No, I really just want to delete it. Third: Try deleting folder that the folder B that folder [B]A/B] is in, Error Msg: Cannot delete folder, the directory is not empty.
"Cannot delete (folder name): It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that may be using the file and try again." So, I did that and it still will not delete. Besides rebooting (uses up much of my time) anybody know how to clear this?
I have a used laptop and have removed all of the previous owner's data. I have created a new user. I have changed the owner's name in My Computer and in the registry. Everything works well and I can find all my new files in My Documents as I expect. However in C:Docs and Settings there is a folder with the old owner's name. XP will not let me rename it or delete it and says it is "a Windows system folder and is requred for Windows to run properly". Apparently some part of XP is still using some files/folders in the old owner's name folder. How can I get around this so I can clean up my disk and delete the old owner's folder?
