How do i change the folder icon for "My Pictures"? That folder, My Music and My Videos don't have a customize tab under properties. I just want the default My Pictures folder icon back which for some reason has disappeared and there's only a standard yellow folder icon in its place.
I am wanting to change the icons for the folders in My Documents. The reason is because I had to recreate the My Pictures and My Music folders a while back when I had to create a new account and delete a previous one due to having lost my password. Right now they simply look like plain folders on the Start Menu. (Using Windows XP Start Menu) If the folder you want to change is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search. Right-click the folder you want to change, and then click Properties. On the Customize tab, under Folder pictures, click Choose Picture. Click the picture you want to use to identify the folder in Thumbnails view. To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents. You must be in Thumbnails view to see the folder picture. To switch to Thumbnails view, on the View menu, click Thumbnails. In Thumbnails view, Windows displays up to four images from your folder on the folder icon by default. The images Windows displays are the last four images you modified. So I did what it said and went to the properties for the folder. But for some reason, there was no cutomize tab.
I've created a shortcut to a folder that contains data files used by a particular program. I would like to change the shortcut icon for that folder to the icon used by the program. Program icons do not appear in the shortcut|properties|change icon list. Is there a way to make the icon replacement?
The problem is that the protocol indicated; that is, rt. click icon on desk top, properties and change icon is not available anymore on my system. It used to work that way but somehow no longer. Instead, going to properties give you no avenue to change icons.
I have done this many times but right now I have a brain malfunction & can't remember how to change the my documents folder icon.Searched google for an answer but not getting what I want.Searched TSG threads & not finding answer there.I have changed the icon many times because I have a custom icon that gets replaced with default icon when I make a system change. But today I just can't remember how to do it.It's such a nice day that my brain decided to take a walk & hasn't come back yet
I have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. I just got into a little trouble with my explorer. Whenever I double-click on a folder, it opens in a new window, not in the same one. I even changed "folder option>>general>>open each folder in same window" but with no result. I was actually trying to change the icon for the 'file folder' and I dont really know what I did (went to 'folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced>>change icon....but I changed the icon back to the original icon again) , but from that time, I am unable to change it back to open folders in the same window. In the 'actions' (folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced) section (after i changed the icon) all I could see was a 'find' option. It was opening 'search' window every time I double clicked on a folder, so I created a new action called open and selected 'explorer' as the application to use and then set this 'open' as default. Although it solved the initial problem of opening the 'search' window, it still opens every folder in a new window.
I typed it several different ways but to no avail. I'm trying to find info on how to change a folder icon on a flash card. What I mean is: I insert a flash card into my PC and transfer a folder onto the flash card. The icon of the folder will change from what it was on my PC to a generic folder on the flash drive. How can I prevent this. The files that are contained in the folder are of Christmas purposes and the Icon that I set for the folder was a Christmas icon.
i decided to download some cute icons for my desktop and i think i assigned it the wrong way (i did it through file types > file folder) because when i try to open folders, an MS-DOS prompt pops up instead of opening the folder - it's driving me crazy - HELP! i can't fix this or find anything on the
I want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.
I need to know how to save the pictures in the My Pictures folder to CD. I am going to format and reinstall XP Home and if I do, I will lose these pictures unless I save them.
I'm going to ask a question which is something related to programming in windows.. Is there a way that i can add my own icon to the existing file and folder icon like dropbox.Changing desktop.ini is the only way for changing folder icons??How can i add my own icon to the existing file icon(like a tick on below every file icon).
Within my, "My Pictures" folder I have a great many sub folders containing thousands of pictures. In all but a couple of folders is the option to view as a filmstrip (which I prefer). However there is a folder (within "My Pictures") that I'm using now that doesn't have that option!Does anyone know why, not all folders in "MY PICTURES", has the option for filmstrip?
when i save pictures and put them in my own folder they get mixed up a lot. What i mean by this is i will put them in a certian order then when i restart or click on the folder again they are never the way i put them any idea cause it's annoying
I?ve had this problem for a long time it started when my HD die on me (RIP) I think it was at the beginning of the year. I turned my slave into the master. I installed xp on it and it was all good. I don?t know when but a problem started, what happened is folders like C: and My documents and other non customize the folder would change to a music folder and I would only be about to sort the folder out my artist e.g. My doc might become a picture folder type and I can sort the folder out by when the picture was taken which is point less. I also found that the more folder type I choose e.g. music folder type that a folder like C: might change to that type.
In "My Pictures" folder, I do not have the option of "Burn to CD" under "Picture Tasks". I was able to burn photos to CD, but I had to select "copy files" under "Files and folders" and then select my D Drive as the destination. Can someone please let me know why I don't have the "Burn to CD" option and how I can fix it.
I have a lot of pictures on my laptop. I still have plenty of space left on the hard drive. I save new pictures into a specific folder, then I go to retrieve them and I cannot find them. I can see them in "recent" documents but not in the folder that I put them in.
This morning I wanted to make a back up cd of my documents and I burned it. After, I went into Picasa, where I HAD thousands of photos. Nearly all are gone! The "My Pictures" folder is also gone from "My Documents" on the hard drive, as is all the folders I had in "My Documents." The files seem to be on the cd, but I am not sure they are all there. WHY oh, WHY would the files and photos be GONE from my hard drive? How could just making a cd cause the files to disappear? I can't tell you what a tragedy this is! I had thousands of photos that I had edited and projects I had created. Dates that were with photos are gone, since all the dates now show today's date since that is when I burned the cd. As a possible troubleshooting thought--twice I have tried to start my computer and it has frozen at the "windows is starting up" screen, not even getting to the place where I put my password as an authorized user. Please help. I did try a restart and nothing had changed.
It may because I instilled some software. after that, everytime I open the "display properties"-->>"desktop",my computer will read "My pictures"folder, and trying to load all the pictures in the "Background" list.which are almost 2GB pictures.it is very slow, and my computer halted for a long time.
This isn't a problem as such.. it's just darned annoying. When I click the My Documents folder on my desktop, and open the My Pictures folder, it has the musical note background and no film strip facility.I know that the My Documents and My Pictures folders are deemed as System folders in XP and cannot be customized, but here's the thing.. If I open the explorer file tree and go to the Documents and Setting folder, and open the My Documents and My Pictures from inside it.
I do alot of image work so i have alot of images... when i go to save an image in the my pictures folder, it does not show up. so i think, i go into windows explorer to the my pictures folder and only some of them show up.
1. Get a copy of Microangelo. 2. While Microangelo is downloading you need to make 2 backups of any files that you will be replacing. for this example we will use shell32.dll This file is located at c:windowssystem32shell32.dll. To view these files you need to turn off 'Hide protected operating system files' and 'Show hidden files and folders' in the view tab of the folder options under tools in my computer. One of these backups is for editing purposes and the other is pure backup. 3. Once Microangelo is downloaded and installed, open librarian. librarian is an application that can open up exe's and just about any file with embedded icons. 4. Once librarian is opened, open the first backup of that shell32.dll file. and VoilĂ !! Tons of icons, actually most of the icons in the entire system. :) ........
Recently changed my recycle bin icons. At first they seemed to work. When it was empty, the empty icon showed and when full, the full icon showed. Now it either stays one or the other with no change when I empty or put new in. I have changed them back to the normal icons and they seemed to work that way, but then when I changed them to the new ones again I got the same result.
For some reason, my windows refuses to display the default folder icon anymore. I tried the simple fix of right clicking, properties, change icon etc. but even though i select the icon i want, it refuses to display it.
One of the most common functions I perform in Windows XP is to create a new folder in Explorer. As best I can tell, there is no way to create a shortcut to do this nor is there a toolbar icon for this. I admit right-clicking on an empty space and waiting for the "New" menu is not an arduous task, but it seems it should be quicker and easier. Is there a one-touch way to create a new folder in XP Explorer?
seems like with every new update done to Windows XP Home (SP2 + all current updates), I develop a new little annoyance.A few updates back, I noticed that when I change file associations to a specific program opening up my .jpgs, .tifs, and .gifs, from the default (Windows Picture & Fax Viewer), the newly-associated file does open the file, but the icons for those files remains as the default Windows Picture & Fax Viewer.(I suspect at the bottom of many of problems MAY be the installation of my Lexmark printer -- but then, it's a convenient scapegoat for everything!
