Icon Display On Desktop Suddenly Change
Sep 3, 2006when i turned on my pc today, the name of the icons on my desktop are highlighted in brown, how do i change it back to normal?

Desktop Icon Text Suddenly Highlighted
Sep 7, 2008I am not sure what I did but the text on my desktop icons is suddenly highlighted and despite trying several things I can't make it go away! All I have managed to do is change the color a few times. I googled this problem and tried the several 'solutions' that I found but none of them worked. Can anyone help me solve this annoying problem?

Nov 5, 2008I am running Windows Xp Pro on a network. I have version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600. My problem is that last Friday my desktop icons started having a blue back ground behind them. I have tried right clicking on the desktop and clicking properties then the desktop tab and there I can change the background colors, but I want the background to go away totally. I used to have just the icon and words with no back ground color at all. Can anyone help? I've compared the setting on this laptop to my other one at home and didn't come up with anything there. I also tried to restore the system to a date prior to Friday, but I get the message can not restore for every restore point I have chosen.

Aug 30, 2005After looking at the display settings and closing them, my icon disappeared. A file search on all *.cpl files show that the display.cpl file still exists
and I can create a shortcut to the desktop and run the program.But, I'd like my icon back.I believe the problem was created by having all my icons underlined so I only have to do a single Left click to bring up the program.
Display Properties Issues-Could Not Change The Default Display Settings
Mar 25, 2008My XP is currently defaulted on it's display settings 640v by 480 pixels and will not allow me to change it. In fact, there is nothing to change it to. I dont know what file I must of deleted, but is there anyway I can download the driver or something to make it so that it can be set on opitions that are higher?

Dec 7, 2007I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.

Display Properties - Unstable Icon And Window Sizes Changing
Apr 6, 2006Am having a problem with Display Properties in WinXP-2. During the first 5 minutes after boot-up, screen resolution on my desk top is unstable with icon and window sizes changing from large to small and vice-versa. Resetting the Display Properties during this time has no effect. When the system warms up the problem is gone. Can the Monitor itself be the problem, or is it most likely the Video Card? I don't have another monitor to use as a test unit.

2. While Microangelo is downloading you need to make 2 backups of any files that you will be replacing. for this example we will use shell32.dll This file is located at c:windowssystem32shell32.dll. To view these files you need to turn off 'Hide protected operating system files' and 'Show hidden files and folders' in the view tab of the folder options under tools in my computer. One of these backups is for editing purposes and the other is pure backup.
3. Once Microangelo is downloaded and installed, open librarian. librarian is an application that can open up exe's and just about any file with embedded icons.
4. Once librarian is opened, open the first backup of that shell32.dll file. and Voilà!! Tons of icons, actually most of the icons in the entire system. :) ........

How To Change Folder Icon?
Apr 9, 2006I am wanting to change the icons for the folders in My Documents. The reason is because I had to recreate the My Pictures and My Music folders a while back when I had to create a new account and delete a previous one due to having lost my password. Right now they simply look like plain folders on the Start Menu. (Using Windows XP Start Menu) If the folder you want to change is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search. Right-click the folder you want to change, and then click Properties. On the Customize tab, under Folder pictures, click Choose Picture. Click the picture you want to use to identify the folder in Thumbnails view. To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents. You must be in Thumbnails view to see the folder picture. To switch to Thumbnails view, on the View menu, click Thumbnails. In Thumbnails view, Windows displays up to four images from your folder on the folder icon by default. The images Windows displays are the last four images you modified. So I did what it said and went to the properties for the folder. But for some reason, there was no cutomize tab.

Apr 12, 2009Recently changed my recycle bin icons. At first they seemed to work. When it was empty, the empty icon showed and when full, the full icon showed. Now it either stays one or the other with no change when I empty or put new in. I have changed them back to the normal icons and they seemed to work that way, but then when I changed them to the new ones again I got the same result.

I right click the desktop go to programs, then under the Appearance tab I can only get the looks change by doing it myself, like in 'Windows Classic" I try to change it to "Windows XP Style" but when I click 'OK' or 'apply' the PC freezes. Jan 27, 2009I have Windows XP on a DELL. I tried to download the display monitor driver for E772C. When I tried to follow the instructions after downloading which told me to follow the following path: Right click on the background. Go to properties which pulls up display properties. Click on the Settings tab. Click on the Advanced button. Click on the monitor tab. Then it said to click on Properties but is grayed out so I still cant change the color to more than 4 bits.

Apr 5, 2006Two days ago my laptop display became corrupted. To start with I'll list the problems: On boot loader random $ and & signs appear with a red/green character background On same screen some chars change to others. In windows there are random discoloured pixels everywhere (although the is a sort of pattern to it. This happens when running apps, and the pixels will slowly bleed through on new pages/screens until at full intensity. Games that worked fine the day before now have graphics problems rendering them unplayable. It's not the screen, I connected an external monitor and it showed the same problem. I don't think it's the video card because of the problems at bios (before the video drivers are loaded.) this is my only decent computer and I can't afford to replace it. Screenshot attached. Notice the pink pixels on the white parts.

Nov 6, 2007I have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. I just got into a little trouble with my explorer. Whenever I double-click on a folder, it opens in a new window, not in the same one. I even changed "folder option>>general>>open each folder in same window" but with no result. I was actually trying to change the icon for the 'file folder' and I dont really know what I did (went to 'folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced>>change icon....but I changed the icon back to the original icon again) , but from that time, I am unable to change it back to open folders in the same window. In the 'actions' (folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced) section (after i changed the icon) all I could see was a 'find' option. It was opening 'search' window every time I double clicked on a folder, so I created a new action called open and selected 'explorer' as the application to use and then set this 'open' as default. Although it solved the initial problem of opening the 'search' window, it still opens every folder in a new window.
