Corrupted Display - Chars Change To Others

Two days ago my laptop display became corrupted. To start with I'll list the problems: On boot loader random $ and & signs appear with a red/green character background On same screen some chars change to others. In windows there are random discoloured pixels everywhere (although the is a sort of pattern to it. This happens when running apps, and the pixels will slowly bleed through on new pages/screens until at full intensity. Games that worked fine the day before now have graphics problems rendering them unplayable. It's not the screen, I connected an external monitor and it showed the same problem. I don't think it's the video card because of the problems at bios (before the video drivers are loaded.) this is my only decent computer and I can't afford to replace it. Screenshot attached. My XP is currently defaulted on it's display settings 640v by 480 pixels and will not allow me to change it. In fact, there is nothing to change it to. I dont know what file I must of deleted, but is there anyway I can download the driver or something to make it so that it can be set on opitions that are higher?

I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.

I hit a key combo somewhere on my laptop, now I am getting the wrong characters when I hit a key. For example, when I try '?', I am getting an upper-case 'E' with an accent. How do I switch the keyboard back to default? To add to that, my screwing around has now disabled the Language Bar in Regional/Lang Options.

I have a Dell Dimension 5100 with Winxp pro sp3 1 Meg of RAM and extra 500 gig hd:
I changed (increaded) the Page File zise (Virtual Memory) on both drives and it corrupted the Registry. Now it does not even let me re-install winxp on that drive. Towards the end of the installation I get a message that it cannot copy certain files. The file names varies according to the SP version on the winxp pro cd.
Also, I lost the original OS disk from DELL.

When I want to change the way my PC looks I can't do it the way I want. I right click the desktop go to programs, then under the Appearance tab I can only get the looks change by doing it myself, like in 'Windows Classic" I try to change it to "Windows XP Style" but when I click 'OK' or 'apply' the PC freezes. I have to shut off PC with button The computer use to be okay. I did a clean Install of XP from my XP Home Upgrade CD. I really have NO problems but this one, making me NUTSO.

I have XPSP3 running on my computer and after cancelling a download of themes half way through(I know I shouldn't do that) I haven't been able to change my colours or theme. I have tried many methods from "Doug", a restore, but not yet a repair because I don't have an SP3 disk. I have copied the message I get here, any help would be appreciated thanks.

I have Windows XP on a DELL. I tried to download the display monitor driver for E772C. When I tried to follow the instructions after downloading which told me to follow the following path: Right click on the background. Go to properties which pulls up display properties. Click on the Settings tab. Click on the Advanced button. Click on the monitor tab. Then it said to click on Properties but is grayed out so I still cant change the color to more than 4 bits.

My friend installed a video game on his HP desktop (w/Windows XP) and changed the resolution settings to some odd selection that was 756x??? - something I had never seen before. Every time he loaded the game, it was illegible. In trying to change the display settings to make them compatible with the game, he chose this odd resolution (which was now available for some reason) for the desktop display settings, and now nothing can be read on the screen.

Trying to change display settings on a pc 1024x768 to 800x600 Right click desktop and i get these errors "Run a DLL as an APP" If i close this meesage i then get
"Run a DLL as an APP has encountered a problem and need to close" If i try and change the settings in Control Panel by clicking on Display.

I have Windows XP Home SP2 and yesterday when I started up the computer the task bar and the top of a window is displayed like a windows me theme and not XPs clean design. The only thing that might have changed it is adobe reader 7 which I installed the day before the display changed. Is there any way to change it back to the origional display?

I use a Dell LCD Monitor and every time I have tried to format and reinstall XP on my hard drive I go to my Monitor section and the Monitor Properties are shaded out thus making me stuck with the default crap that XP put on for my comp. I have the drivers I need for my monitor but the frackin thing wont let me use them.

I now have W XP. When I click on folders I get icons or thumbnails. I want to establish "LIST" as the default way to view files. When I click on List, it works the one time but then future clicks brings me back to the thumbnails.

I have problems if I try and run the display settings above 800x600. I was wondering if this would be fixed if I upgrade the firmware settings and if so where would I get these upgrades? Whenever I try and run it at a higher display setting all I get is a thing saying "Signal isnt compatible with this display setting".

While playing a game I hit some buttons on accident and the display shrunk. Now the monsters are small, and so is everything else outside of the game I have no idea what I did, I checked the Screen Resolution and it seems fine, and I also checked my monitor settings, which is fine.
