I hit a key combo somewhere on my laptop, now I am getting the wrong characters when I hit a key. For example, when I try '?', I am getting an upper-case 'E' with an accent. How do I switch the keyboard back to default? To add to that, my screwing around has now disabled the Language Bar in Regional/Lang Options.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was in the middle of typing and suddenly none of the keys work properly. Most of them won't type anything and the rest are jumbled. "c" will print "-", n will be 7, ";" will be the "page up" key etc. I've reinstalled the keyboard drivers but no success. language/region settings are US as always. no idea why it's suddenly scrambled. keyboard is microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.0A. batteries are fine. XP system. Please help. this is really causing a ton of trouble. I'm using software kboard to type this.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTwo days ago my laptop display became corrupted. To start with I'll list the problems: On boot loader random $ and & signs appear with a red/green character background On same screen some chars change to others. In windows there are random discoloured pixels everywhere (although the is a sort of pattern to it. This happens when running apps, and the pixels will slowly bleed through on new pages/screens until at full intensity. Games that worked fine the day before now have graphics problems rendering them unplayable. It's not the screen, I connected an external monitor and it showed the same problem. I don't think it's the video card because of the problems at bios (before the video drivers are loaded.) this is my only decent computer and I can't afford to replace it. Screenshot attached. 1. At the Windows Welcome screen, arrow keys could move the user selection up & down, but no alphanumeric keys made any visible entry (dot) in password field. Clicking Shut Down and restarting corrected this (for now, anyway).

4. Clicking any of the "Learn About." links opens the help page in IE7, but with its contents crowded to the left and the yellow bar at the top. Clicking to allow blocked content (Are you sure? YES!) results in yet another dialog about an ActiveX control that "might be unsafe" but the only new ActiveX control on this PC is one from Symantec, installed during the NAV 2009 upgrade. NAV 2009 was the FIRST product I've run into that did NOT permit its EULA to be selected, printed or saved. I like to keep a record of things I've agreed to, but that text was out of reach! Sixteen screenshots later.
I inadvertantly switched on sticky keys. I have since switched it off but my backspace, arrow keys and Fn keys no longer work.

Thats my problem...it used to be fine, than tha border with all tha sub locations went..and i was stuck on tha processes section...and now it wont come up anymore.I have a feeling i have alot of trojans that are messing with my system settings. i mean i dont even have a background anymore because its a blue error message saying i got a trojan.

The problem i am having is that when i right click on a FILE i get the hourglass for about 10 seconds and just the context menu is not loading. Nothing else on my computer is hanging. When i right click on a FOLDER it goes instantly.I KNOW WHAT YOUR THINKING, that i have some shell extension installed to do something special with files. Well, just to prove that wrong beforehand... I have two external hard drives. When i right click on a FILE located on one of those drives, it goes instantly.
So i thought maybe it was my hard drive... So i moved 30 gigs of music off of it, and i defraged it.
My computer will start-up in safe mode only (at least it looks like safe mode), even when I don't hit pf8 and choose safe mode. I've tried to use system restore once I'm in under safe mode, but when I click on it, I get an empty box and am not able to choose a date.

Now the monsters are small, and so is everything else outside of the game I have no idea what I did, I checked the Screen Resolution and it seems fine, and I also checked my monitor settings, which is fine.
I'm trying to use the Windows XP (Home) backup utility. I can set it up to run manually with no problem. I want to set it up on a schedule and after I go thru the steps to do that, I get prompted for a password. My PC at home is not set up with a password for the one and only account on it. I have tried bypassing this screen by just hitting "OK" but the BU never runs. I would prefer not to set up a password for the account as it will only confuse my wife.

keyboard is messed up.
When I try to type something involving keys like M J K L U I O
numbers are showing.
I noticed that under those keys are little numbers.
M=0
J=1
K=2
L=3
U=4
I=5
O=6
Also when i try to use shift + one of those keys nothing happens.

View 7 Replies View RelatedFirefox stopped working after the latest update and reinstalling latest and previous versions doesn't repair.Using the control panel I uninstalled again. A utility program says I have some 80 entries in Registry with "Mozilla." FF is my one and only Mozilla product so I'm guessing something in one of the80 is the problem. The utility, JV16PT, will erase them. Is this safe? I will reinstall FF and let it make new, and hopefully good entries.

I have to reinstall my XP Pro OS on my work PC. The XP CD for that is fairly old and only has SP1. I recently got a laptop with XP Pro SP2. Can I Install the OS using the laptop XP CD that has SP2 and type in the product Key for the older XP machine so I don't have to spend hours updating the SP1 install to SP2. I've done this with MS Office in the past when the silver coating on the CD got scraped off and I just installed with an Office CD from another machine and used the Product Key from the broken CD license. These are DELL machines if that makes any difference. The last time I reinstalled the laptop OS using the CD, I can't remember typing in the product key and I don't want to have any issues with licensing and activation.

It affects the explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe files.This is the key that needs to be deleted.
