Keyboard Keys Wont Work Properly / Writing Wrong Text?

I was in the middle of typing and suddenly none of the keys work properly. Most of them won't type anything and the rest are jumbled. "c" will print "-", n will be 7, ";" will be the "page up" key etc. I've reinstalled the keyboard drivers but no success. language/region settings are US as always. no idea why it's suddenly scrambled. keyboard is microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.0A. batteries are fine. XP system. Please help. this is really causing a ton of trouble. I'm using software kboard to type this.
My computer wasn't recognizing my CD-RW drive, so I opened up 'regedit' to delete the upper and lower filters from the drive. Well, I deleted the wrong filters. The next time Windows loaded up, it failed to recognize the mouse and the keyboard (!!!). So I basically have a paralyzed computer - I can't do anything with it. I know that reinstalling Windows would solve the problem, but I'm looking for a way to take care of this without losing all of my files. I know it's possible .

I hit a key combo somewhere on my laptop, now I am getting the wrong characters when I hit a key. For example, when I try '?', I am getting an upper-case 'E' with an accent. How do I switch the keyboard back to default? To add to that, my screwing around has now disabled the Language Bar in Regional/Lang Options.
I'm looking for a way to create short cuts in XP for addding text or passwords. For example when logging into Yahoo or somewhere else i would like to hit Alt+P for pauljwest . Does anyone know a way to do this.
everytime i time i type s it shows up as es. And when when i type k it shows up as yk. and when i put a period it shows a t. And i think theres other key problems too
The problem remains however. The @ key is actually the " key, and vice-versa. Also a couple of other keys are reversed too. I've looked everywhere on the net to try and reverse these problems but I'd rather not download a remapping program.
it possible to trace the keys of the keyboard or trace the screens. I have to show the steps for some installation . The only way I know is to se Print screen button and paste that on the Word document, but that is time consuming. I am wondering if this is possible somehow with some kind of trace on ?
I'm tired of my Logitech keyboard which always turns off the standard "F" keys and defaults to proprietary functions. I've already tried the "pass through" option, but it doesn't work in all cases so what would you recommend? Does anyone make a multimedia keyboard like the Logitech Navigator that has standard F-keys? I want a wired keyboard with a standard PS2 plug so I can get into my BIOS settings when necessary.
I have been able to write text files to my CD-RW until recently which may be after I received and automatic update from XP. I am using the MS CD Writer, I receive the error "There is no disc in the drive" when selecting properties is shows that the Discs have no free space, these are all brand new out of the package discs. I had this problem previously immediately after I upgraded to XP SP2, MS provided an executable that I ran and corrected the problem.
I'm wondering about something thats been bugging me for a bit? What are the extra keys on the keyboard for, or more to the point how does one configure them. The KB I use right now only has three extra keys, a sun, a moon, and another(?) I think for power, or stand bye?? But my sisters KB has mega, hers is a MSN 'netboard'. Is there somewhere I can learn how to utilize the extra keys. When I press any of them now they don't do anything?? Help is appreciated, but this is not a pressing,(pretty punny eh), matter, so please help those who really have a problem first! This is just something I have always wanted to know?? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one?? I have two pc laptops on one everything is great, in color and you can view everything as you would expect ie tab options and backgrounds. on the second (compaq presario 2200 laptop windows xp home) you cannot see tab options and internet page backgrounds, borders, tabs are all white and the text is in back or white text boxes (colour is also shown on the pages) i have tried to show axtive x etc and i do not have anything like norton oporating. i have been through nearly every setting but cannot work out why my laptop is veiwing its display like this and how to ammend it.
got a toshiba laptop approximatley 3 years old. His keyboard is 101/102 and working correctly in the control panal, however, the @ sign is in the wrong place as is the " and i can't find the sign at all, i'm sure we used to move these at work for a joke but i can't find out how to do it. Just to clarify the print on the buttons of the keyboard isn't what it type when you press the buttons @ = shift 2 " = shift 'if i go into character maps it shows them in the above places but i can't amend
I am running Windows XP; just reinstalled Windows and all was well until I allowed downloads of Windows updates.Installed a batch of updates and now whenever I type an email message or anything else on the screen (except this...seems fine here); I get lags of about 5 seconds. I type and nothing happens, then the text snaps into place a few seconds later. Sometimes the screen refreshes. No error messages...but the change has been the update of Windows. Wonder if that has installed something that has caused my problem. Clicking seems to be problematic as well with lags.
My keyboard does not function properly just a few hours ago it worked perfectly for now i am usin the on screen keyboard. how can i solve this problem? for windows xp desktop computer.
My laptop keyboard suddenly stopped working he other day. I uninstalled the driver and rebooted and got most, but not all, keboard function back. I removed the keyboard and inspected it but there was no sign of damage or of anything having been spilt on it. Also prior to this there had been no sign of any problem. The key that is completely non functional is del but if I press t or g i get tg and if I press y or h I get yh. Also (in word) pressing [ or , or . causes the first letter is a series to be capitalised whilst - takes you to save file.
I have an old DOS program called Symate Plus (Square D) for coding PLCs.(It dates from about 1993.)On one computer running XP Professional it runs fine, either in a window or full screen.On my other computer running XP Home it starts okay but the ten function keys won't work. (The program is accessed via the function keys.) I've tried everything I can think of to get it working on my other computer but without luck
I am frustrated with the new alt-tab func in sp2.It displays a big screen which does not mean anything and sometime the icons repeat itself 4 times- so you loose the last-in functionality and you have to do al-tab 3 times to get to your previous screen.Is there a way I can get the pre-sp2 alt tab functionality?
I recently have had problems with my computer slowing down after clicking on programs such as Firefox. It takes about 40 seconds for the hourglass to go away and then the program will finally load. Other programs also. I have been using some anti-virus and spyware programs thinking I had a virus or spyware , such as Spyware Begone. It found a spyware and deleted it. I tried to use System restore and it only showed one restore point in January (the 27th when I first tried Spyware Begone), but would not restore to that date. I could not get Restore to go back to December. System Restore is on and running. Any suggestions would be helpful. I also used System Restore in Safe Mode thinking that would help, but it would not restore to the 27th. System Restore works, but after completing it the message says "could not restore to the 27th).
my laptop wont run, it comes up with a screen and it says power on and key. But other than this it wont do nothing. I cannot access anything and no button does anything. Is the computer locked? Is there a way i can fix this?
How to make disk cleanup work properly? It used to work. Now afte you selected/checked what you want to clean up, such as recycle bin and temporary internet files, then it only goes to four or five bars and never completes. Does anyone out there have an answer to this problem without causing a virus from downloading something to fix the problem?
I think ive got a keylogger, so I am reinstalling XP. (I am very paranoid, I can't stand it) My Windows XP cd was very scratched, so I made a back-up, then threw it away (saved serial and stuff). First problem: when trying to burn the iso that I created from the original disk, when I am done burning with CDBurnerXP it crashes. Then, for the big boy. When I restart my computer, boot from CD, the installation loads all drivers and stuff, but my keyboard won't work so I can't continue with the installation.
I got a new graphics card today. So I went to Add/Remove programs, and removed the Nvidia driver. I rebooted the PC as requested. After rebooting PC (keeping the same graphics card in) the black Windows logo screen took much longer than usual. Then when it finished so that I could click on my profile, I couldn't, the mouse nor the keyboard are functioning. I tried a different mouse and keyboard. I unplugged my computer and restarted, I tried in safe mode and the same thing. The keyboard works at the BIOS screen because I can get into the BIOS and select safemode as needed.
I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager - after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later - my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing - actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off - when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
I have 2 internal SATA disks and one external USB 2.0 drive. I had XP SP 2 running just fine, but I decided to give Vista RTM a try, so I installed Vista RTM on the first SATA drive (receated the partition).All drives have NTFS file systems.Since Nvidia does not have a decent Vista driver yet, I decided to do a XP installation on the 2nd SATA drive, just for when I want to play a game. And here is my problem:When booting of the XP SP2 CD, I can only see the USB drive available for the install, all the SATA drives are shown as "Unknown Disk" (No disk present).
the problem is that whenever caps lock, num lock, or scroll lock is pressed my keyboard goes into caps lock. my keyboard doesnt show this and i cant get out of capslock. whenever one of these buttons is pressed then the treo of lock leds lights up and then quits. after that to type in lowercase i have to hold the shift key.
When I start up my computer it will not respond to anything that has to do with my keyboard and mouse. I couldn't figure out why, I mean they came with my computer. The mouse is not even optical and it has a cord. I tried booting into safemode but since the keyboard doesn't work I couldn't. I tried booting from a disk but I have to be able to press any key to be able to do that. I couldn't log onto the accounts because that requires both a mouse and a keyboard. I tried using a different and keyboard that plug into the same ports, which resulted in the same thing. So I used a keyboard for a playstation 2 because it uses USB and I used a mouse I found that hooks up to USB as well. They work fine. However, I want the PS/2 ports to work because I better things to be taking up my usb ports.
Can I get my Intelli Keyboard (Bluetooth) working on my new x64 Edition Win XP? The software does not appear to work that comes with the product. I need x64 bit versions of the software, surely MS makes it, Also need the same for my fingerpint scanner from Microsoft.
A friend of mine has been given a computer without a keyboard. It works fine except WinXP doesn't find a keyboard when a normal PS/2 keyboard is connected. The keyboard is working fine when running DOS or BIOS setup. I tried reinstalling WinXP but the keyboard doesn't work after booting the XP cdrom.Now the computer says "Restarting XP installation" after booting from the hdd. But it doesn't complete the installation without an usable keyboard.
