I'm looking for a way to create short cuts in XP for addding text or passwords. For example when logging into Yahoo or somewhere else i would like to hit Alt+P for pauljwest . Does anyone know a way to do this.
View 2 RepliesI was in the middle of typing and suddenly none of the keys work properly. Most of them won't type anything and the rest are jumbled. "c" will print "-", n will be 7, ";" will be the "page up" key etc. I've reinstalled the keyboard drivers but no success. language/region settings are US as always. no idea why it's suddenly scrambled. keyboard is microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.0A. batteries are fine. XP system. Please help. this is really causing a ton of trouble. I'm using software kboard to type this.

1. At the Windows Welcome screen, arrow keys could move the user selection up & down, but no alphanumeric keys made any visible entry (dot) in password field. Clicking Shut Down and restarting corrected this (for now, anyway).
2. The [Start] > [Log Off] > [Switch Users] button is missing. This would be a straightforward fix, except that
3. In Control Panel, User Accounts lacks "Change the way users log on or off"! [Is XP SP3's REAL purpose to hose up a nicely-running XP SP2 box, so the owner will FINALLY spring for a Vista system?]
4. Clicking any of the "Learn About." links opens the help page in IE7, but with its contents crowded to the left and the yellow bar at the top. Clicking to allow blocked content (Are you sure? YES!) results in yet another dialog about an ActiveX control that "might be unsafe" but the only new ActiveX control on this PC is one from Symantec, installed during the NAV 2009 upgrade. NAV 2009 was the FIRST product I've run into that did NOT permit its EULA to be selected, printed or saved. I like to keep a record of things I've agreed to, but that text was out of reach! Sixteen screenshots later.
I inadvertantly switched on sticky keys. I have since switched it off but my backspace, arrow keys and Fn keys no longer work.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen yesterday I turned on the computer and did not have to enter any passwords. I finally realized I could use the wireless set up utility. I ran the wireless set up wizard from the control panel put my flash drive in the usb port, took my flash drive out of the desktop usb port hub, put it into my laptop, installed. i put the flash drive back into the USB port hub at the desk top and nothing happened - the mouse wouldn't move and no keyboard, so I hit restart.....

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a PC with Win XP SP2. There are 2 users on the PC, each admin users, each with no password. When you start the PC, it displays the Welcome screen, and you can click on either user's icon and Windows logs you in without asking for a password. So far so good. However, if you a)try and switch users, or b)logout and try to log in as either user, Windows now asks for a user password. But there is no password configured! You have to restart the PC every time you want to switch users.

I upgraded to XP Pro and for some reason, I was now prompted with a popup log in (similar to the one most people have and that I have at work) asking for a password for a user "Matthew". I don't recall setting up this user (my name) and had no password, but if I hit OK I was logged in with no problems.I looked into the User Accounts and saw that Quinn was still the administrator and that Matthew was a user. So I figured I'd keep it simple and got rid of Matthew since , well, I was Quinn and had no password for that account either.Now, when I boot up, I get a prompt for Matthew but by entering no password, I can't get in. The same happens when I try with Quinn.So after all of that here's where I'm at: I need to find a way to get into my computer and bypass the logins since I don't have passwords for wither account.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently a friend of mine used my computer while I was in the shower. I have no problem with my friends using my laptop at all. Although, he felt the need to "delete browser History" from IE7, all of it. With that, he deleted all my saved usernames and passwords, which I never can remember and that's why I save them. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me (different users).
In the dialog window for "Delete Browser History", is there a way to disable the "Delete Forms" and/or "Delete Passwords" buttons? I've seen a way to disable the "Delete History" button from that dialog box. (Pictured Below) I have tried using the same registry edits as the "Delete History" button tweak, but changing the relative info for forms and passwords, and it does not work. I'm running XP PRO - Updated as of this AM.
My computer keeps rebooting every time i try to open folders with .avi and .mpeg files. It says that DEP is causing it but I disbabled it and I still can't open any folders, please give me any suggestions short of formatting the computer
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've surfed the forums but none of the problems seemed to hit on exactaly what i have.1st problem is that startup and shutdown each take about half and hour to go through (if at all).2nd Is the most reliable method of making the problem happen....loading a new webpage (like one I have never been to) this is when the computer seems to freeze, but not all the way, I still have perfect control of the mouse, and the clicks still go through but only after it seems to catch itself....And other times it doesnt take any provication to make it do this.3rd If this counts is that whenever it does this lockup thing, a small noise comes from the computer, like almost a beep, but not from any speakers, cant really explain it (its not from the case speaker either) Remindes me of a hard drive noise....kinda, but not normal HD.

I have also lost the windows xp theme and cannots ee how to restore it.The option is no longer present in the themes available.
I have several e-mail accounts set up in Outlook on my desktop that I want to port over to a new laptop. It will save me the trouble of having to re-create them all over again on the laptop, plus I'm not sure I can remember all the passwords. On the MS website I've searched for "export email accounts" and several variations on that but have come up with nothing. The only thing I can find is how to import the accounts from Outlook Express into Outlook, which is not what I'm looking for.
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday I started up the desktop PC (a Dell Dimension 8400 Series), to find that a password had spontaneously appeared on the sole User account.I attempted a Safe Mode start to try and log in as the Admin (also previously unpassworded), in order to reset the User password, only to be faced with another password that hadn't been there previously.I have never put any passwords on either the User or Admin accounts, and these new passwords have seemingly come out of nowhere.

View 16 Replies View RelatedThe short cuts on my HDD work when using the desktop to get through them, but upon opening any sort of Explorer dialog it does not see see the short cuts at all. Previously, when the problem first started, it(the Explorer dialog) would see them as a ".lnk" rather than treating them as a short cut, and taking me to the place specified. So, were I attaching a picture to an email, if said picture was in a folder that a short cut could lead me to, it would simply attach a "*.lnk" to the email rather than taking me to the folder where the pic resides.
