There are several people who access my home computer and I would like a program that I can install to show me who has been on my computer.. I have 3 children and a niece and nephew who uses my computer and one of them has changed a few passwords on an important account
View 2 RepliesSo I had XP Home and had one user "Quinn". I upgraded to XP Pro and for some reason, I was now prompted with a popup log in (similar to the one most people have and that I have at work) asking for a password for a user "Matthew". I don't recall setting up this user (my name) and had no password, but if I hit OK I was logged in with no problems.I looked into the User Accounts and saw that Quinn was still the administrator and that Matthew was a user. So I figured I'd keep it simple and got rid of Matthew since , well, I was Quinn and had no password for that account either.Now, when I boot up, I get a prompt for Matthew but by entering no password, I can't get in. The same happens when I try with Quinn.So after all of that here's where I'm at: I need to find a way to get into my computer and bypass the logins since I don't have passwords for wither account.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy owner account (where most of my files are) has been magically changed to "account unknown" under the System Properties/Advanced/User Profiles. I "see" the "Account Unknown" listed, but I am unable to access it. I tried signing in as the administrator, but no luck. I checked Windows help online, but no luck. I called Sony Vaio support, (support?), no luck. I am running XP Home Edition SP2 will all updates. I have found out that the files aren't gone, according to online readings, but getting to them is another matter. I'm a minister and all of my sermons funerals baptisms etc. are connected with the "Owner" profile.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my windows. The other day, the computer started to demand I chose a specific user-account for the computer. When there was only 1 I could choose (my own), I thought i was stupid and wanted to change it. While screwing around with my user-account, I accidently changed my account from "administrator" to "limited user" and I cant figure out to change it back. I have to log on to an administrator account to do so, but cant log on anyone. I found out, there IS a user-account named "administrator" which funny enough is an administrator, but I cant log on on that account.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a file that I could not open in order to read (CompositeLabProWindows). I hastily went to properties in change the file to a messenger file. The file that open and I was able to read the file how ever, an order for the file to work properly I should have been left alone and not tampered with. The men how many times I download the program is still opens up in Windows messenger. My problem is that I need to restore it back to the way it was prior, and remove that the fault mechanism that all some unknown files open up the messenger.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo today I was cleaning out my computer, deleting and moving around old and useless files and documents, etc. I have one folder that contained a plethora of important documents for work (mostly WordPad .rtf documents that I spent countless hours composing). I have another folder, under the same name, in a different part of my computer, with old, useless stuff in it. When I attempted to delete this file, I accidentally right-clicked on the important file, and hit 'delete.Now, a huge amount of hugely important WordPad documents are gone. I checked my Recycle Bin, and nothing was there (on my computer, deleted files oddly usually dont go to the Recycle Bin). I then looked to see if I had stored backups of anything, and I had backup copies of a grand total of 3 of my documents (leaving easily 100 still gone). I then did the only thing I could think of that could possibly restore my lost files: I did a System Restore (I restored my computer to a checkpoint made at about 8 PM yesterday). They were still not there.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAbout two weeks ago, I came home to a dead computer. The fans were on in the case, but the monitor was off. Every time I rebooted, the same happened. I finally had to send my motherboard and CPU in. Intel sent me a warranty replacement Dual Core 2 2.4Ghz processor and ASUS sent me a new motherboard. However, it was not the original. It was the same type of board but the premium model (P5N32-SLI Premium, original was Deluxe) as they didn?t have mine in stock.
While I waited for the new components to arrive, I was able to hook up my old hard drive to my brother?s computer. The hard drive is a SATA Western Digital 250GB. I was able to grab a few files off but didn?t need any others at the time. Plus, the hard drive seemed to working fine so I had no reason to think it would be a problem to get files off in the future..........
Since I uploaded the update of Windows Defender my options on my PC have changed.I can no longer type any particular letters using my keybord without a window popping up. Here are the following keys which causes me problems: E = Opens up My Computer R= RUN U= Utilility Manager D= Desktop F= Search Results L= Login Window M= Desktop I cannot type in Google, Firefox address bar. If I press one of these keys while I'm on my Desktop these actions occur too.

Since then, my search engines have changed (when I search from the IE address bar, it uses MSN search now), and many pages that load, although faster, have the message "error on page" at the bottom. Outlook Express became my default email with the Road Runner email address, but most of the time it does not respond. Also, several games are slow to respond or do not respond at all (specifically CSI games and Hunting Unlimited). I run adaware and spybot at least once a week if not more, and defrag regularly. Are there extra precautions I should take with a cable connection?

When yesterday I turned on the computer and did not have to enter any passwords. I finally realized I could use the wireless set up utility. I ran the wireless set up wizard from the control panel put my flash drive in the usb port, took my flash drive out of the desktop usb port hub, put it into my laptop, installed. i put the flash drive back into the USB port hub at the desk top and nothing happened - the mouse wouldn't move and no keyboard, so I hit restart.....

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a PC with Win XP SP2. There are 2 users on the PC, each admin users, each with no password. When you start the PC, it displays the Welcome screen, and you can click on either user's icon and Windows logs you in without asking for a password. So far so good. However, if you a)try and switch users, or b)logout and try to log in as either user, Windows now asks for a user password. But there is no password configured! You have to restart the PC every time you want to switch users.
