Changed User Name On Admin Account Now Can't Access
Jun 18, 2005I changed the user name on the administrator account and now all of my email and all other docs and data are gone. I can't seem to figure out how to fix.

User Account Missing / Getting Back Files In Admin Account?
May 13, 2005One of my user account for window xp proffesional is missing.Orginally i had one user account and then i decided to make another one.When I was making the second one I had to choose adminstrative powers because it said that I didn't had any other accounts with adminstrative powers. Then after i restarted my original account was missing and I was like wtf! My files are all gone now.The original account name was Administrator. I still have the files for it in my C:Documents and Settings Administrator So how do I get it back?

Mar 21, 2009Windows XP Home SP2 in a Gateway Performer 1300 P4 I recently purchased a used computer locally from a private party. It seemed to work fine. Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.

Jul 29, 2008I'm running xp sp2 on my laptop. I was having trouble getting Inet Explorer 7 to run ( I use Mozilla) so I created a new user account to see if it would work there. . I gave it admin privileges and a password. Now, my other admin account is gone and I can't access any admin files from my new account. I reviewed the forums and found this is a common problem but I couldn't find any resolution for my specific problem. Please help! I would hate to erase my hardrive and re-install windows! I have too many files that I'd hate to lose.

Jan 6, 2006I made a HUGE mistake today. I was configuring 2 'puters at a time & accidently made the only admin account into a limited account. At first, I swear, I remember seeing the at least one other account that was an admin but I guess not. The login screen is a bit wierd as well. Instead of it being the new xp screen with the users' icon it has the old 2000 version with the window asking for the username & password. I tried to enter the UN in that I thought I remember seeing & a variety of possible passwords but nada.
1. is it possible to reverse the limited restrictions on the formerly admin account without any other admin account. This seems unlikely but I guess there has to be a way, right? (GOD!, I hioe there is a way!)
2. If there really is another admin account (it seems unlikely that windows would allow the only account to be changed to limited access) then how can I recoup the forgotten password. I didnt make a passwords disks.
Home SP3 - Admin User Account Profile Wiped Out
Dec 28, 2009I logged into my admin user account today and suddenly the admin profile has been wiped out. I'm guessing that XP uses a similar method as is done on unix in terms of user profiles, ie a flat file to hold user preferences and what not.In any case I had all these settings for the admin account for things such as mouse, outlook express, startup programs etc. Now when I log into the account it's like I just created it for the first time. Outlook express is no longer set up which is really annoying because I'm worried now that I might lose all my emails and address book if I set it up again ( you know with the pop server settings and stuff)Any thoughts on this? How can I get my admin "profile" back. Where the hell did it go. I'm assuming it's a file somewhere and for some reason the user account program can no longer find it and assumes a new account has been created.

Jul 13, 2008im tired of watching silent videos from Internet. im pretty decent at looking up information on the web but i couldnt provide this time so bare with me as this is my first time posting anything in any forum. i have a computer that my download happy stepmom screwed up and crashed. it worked great untill she went crazy and spent 10-16 hours a day everyday on myspace and she evidently followed every lead from myspace to download something. a total of about 100 gb worth of downloads. and then it crashed when i was on vacation. and because she couldnt get off myspace for a week untill i got home she did a system recovery herself without any technical knowledge or experience. and ever since then there has been no sound. she had me try to fix it once but she had withdraws after about 30 minutes and kicked me off to go download more crap. she moved out and i finally have unrestricted time allowances. four months later with no way of backing up all my music videos documents and almost legal programs i cant seem to log on to the admin account to replace the driver manually.

when i boot into safe mode the screen pops up with the user account and the admin account(no password) but when i click on the admin account it says "loading personal settings" and then thats it i have control of the mouse up untill a time several hours later. but it never leaves that screen. when i click on the user account the thing logs right in. i figured since the user account has admin abilities i could delete the defective driver manually but it says i dont have rights to do that.

Sep 16, 2005We have an issue with 25 winXPsp2 Clients in a remote office. The admin who installed those set the local policys to tightenanother company. The office was bought bye us and we demanded a Windows network to be installed. He told us he managed to do this, but he had a Novell background and didnt know that he could set the policys in the w2003 AD. He managed to admin for a while, althoug he never said that he had to fysically face the user and client everytime somebody needed help. and now he have moved on to a new company. give internal support, cleint service and installation for our client users. Is there a way to make a logon script that opens up for the admin account so we can ping, remote access and c$ again? Setting the gruop plicy abjects in the domain AD desnt help. The local setting override it.

I have an admin account, and every other account on my computer is an admin account, yet none of them can access MSCONFIG, or install stuff. May 29, 2008We have our own printer driver which basically prints any document to our application (just like Adobe). Our installer creates a named printer port in HKEY_LOACL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTPorts (eg. OurPort). We stop the spooler service and then start it too to refresh the list of ports.
Then we create the printer by running this command from within installer.
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Our Printer Name" /f "Path of the inf file" /r "OurPort" /m "Printer driver name" /Z
Once all this is done, we try printing any document to this printer we created and it does print in our application. But this happens only when the logged on user is either admin or a power user.
When we try to login with a local user, and he tries to print a document to our application via our printer, it fails. We can see the document in the printing queue but it shows error-printing.

Aug 3, 2007I installed a few programs last night and I lost all my admin privileges. I'm using an account that has admin rights, and yet these happened:
- run button in the start menu has disappeared.
- turn off button has also disappeared; I can only log off
- I cannot run the task manager when I press ctrl-alt-del
- some sys tray applications stopped being started up with the windows (skype, msn messenger, icq, adobe lightroom, daemontools)
- when I load Adobe Photoshop CS2, I get this message that says "You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have administrator privileges".
- I'm sure there're more things waiting to be discovered................
No Admin Privilages On Any Account Even Admin Account
Aug 30, 2008OK here I go with the problem- to start, there are no admin privilages on any account even the admin account. The guest account has been blocked and when you get to the welcome page bit there are no user names, so currently we are having to press alt, ctrl, del twice to get a weird boxy thing up to sign in. Now I have a problem because I have been given a new version of XP to install on my PC but I can't do it.I have no idea if that makes any sense to any one out there, but I would really apreciate any help or even suggestions, I am a desperate woman lol.To top things off I think I may have just downloaded a virus that isn't being picked up by my virus scanner

I had a situation where the user's accoutn was in both groups but when trying to install software,it appeared as if he did not have enough privileges. Feb 17, 2007I've gotten myself in somewhat of a pickle. I have a system that I had built for my husband. I later built a new box for him and decided to sell the previous one. A friend wanted to buy it so I purchased a copy of Windows XP so they'd have their own license, but instead of rebuilding the box, I wiped all the pertinent programs and info they didn't have licenses for and changed the license number to theirs. The problem is, I want to change the user account name under c:documents and settings to reflect the new name.I have created a new ADMIN account, logged in as this account and renamed the account "mitch" to "don". All this does is creates a new user "don" and moves the "my documents" (I have downloaded numerous pdf files that I've created instructing him on how to update antivirus, antispyware and general info on computer use, security, etc. and placed it in the My Documents folder) from "mitch" to don".
