I'm running xp sp2 on my laptop. I was having trouble getting Inet Explorer 7 to run ( I use Mozilla) so I created a new user account to see if it would work there. . I gave it admin privileges and a password. Now, my other admin account is gone and I can't access any admin files from my new account. I reviewed the forums and found this is a common problem but I couldn't find any resolution for my specific problem. Please help! I would hate to erase my hardrive and re-install windows! I have too many files that I'd hate to lose.
When I'm logged in to my computer, I cannot access anything. Like I'm restricted by the Administrator account. So, first thing is I log in as administrator in safe mode and the same thing happens. Wont let me change the accounts or anything.
im tired of watching silent videos from Internet. im pretty decent at looking up information on the web but i couldnt provide this time so bare with me as this is my first time posting anything in any forum. i have a computer that my download happy stepmom screwed up and crashed. it worked great untill she went crazy and spent 10-16 hours a day everyday on myspace and she evidently followed every lead from myspace to download something. a total of about 100 gb worth of downloads. and then it crashed when i was on vacation. and because she couldnt get off myspace for a week untill i got home she did a system recovery herself without any technical knowledge or experience. and ever since then there has been no sound. she had me try to fix it once but she had withdraws after about 30 minutes and kicked me off to go download more crap. she moved out and i finally have unrestricted time allowances. four months later with no way of backing up all my music videos documents and almost legal programs i cant seem to log on to the admin account to replace the driver manually.
xp home legacy with downloaded sp2 and as for a list of programs...way to extensive to list.
when i boot into safe mode the screen pops up with the user account and the admin account(no password) but when i click on the admin account it says "loading personal settings" and then thats it i have control of the mouse up untill a time several hours later. but it never leaves that screen. when i click on the user account the thing logs right in. i figured since the user account has admin abilities i could delete the defective driver manually but it says i dont have rights to do that.
I'm using Windows XP Professional. I am not able to log back into my Administrator account. I'm stuck in a limited user account and though my Administrator account is set w/o a password, I still can't login, even through my computer's Safe Mode (which is was the Dell service person suggested
This problem occurred yesterday while I was trying to eliminate the login screen from my computer's startup. Initially, I used a tip from Annoyances.org by entering "control userpasswords2" in the Run menu and turning off the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option
We have an issue with 25 winXPsp2 Clients in a remote office. The admin who installed those set the local policys to tightenanother company. The office was bought bye us and we demanded a Windows network to be installed. He told us he managed to do this, but he had a Novell background and didnt know that he could set the policys in the w2003 AD. He managed to admin for a while, althoug he never said that he had to fysically face the user and client everytime somebody needed help. and now he have moved on to a new company. Now we (other admins) cant admin the clients at all, we use both Remote Desktop and sometimes DameWare to give internal support, cleint service and installation for our client users. Is there a way to make a logon script that opens up for the admin account so we can ping, remote access and c$ again? Setting the gruop plicy abjects in the domain AD desnt help. The local setting override it.
I've posted about this the other day, and I now have reason to believe that a virus is part of the problem. I have an admin account, and every other account on my computer is an admin account, yet none of them can access MSCONFIG, or install stuff. I get registry errors when I try to install, but I can still access REGEDIT.
I changed the user name on the administrator account and now all of my email and all other docs and data are gone. I can't seem to figure out how to fix.
I installed a few programs last night and I lost all my admin privileges. I'm using an account that has admin rights, and yet these happened:
- run button in the start menu has disappeared. - turn off button has also disappeared; I can only log off - I cannot run the task manager when I press ctrl-alt-del - some sys tray applications stopped being started up with the windows (skype, msn messenger, icq, adobe lightroom, daemontools) - when I load Adobe Photoshop CS2, I get this message that says "You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have administrator privileges". - I'm sure there're more things waiting to be discovered................
OK here I go with the problem- to start, there are no admin privilages on any account even the admin account. The guest account has been blocked and when you get to the welcome page bit there are no user names, so currently we are having to press alt, ctrl, del twice to get a weird boxy thing up to sign in. Now I have a problem because I have been given a new version of XP to install on my PC but I can't do it.I have no idea if that makes any sense to any one out there, but I would really apreciate any help or even suggestions, I am a desperate woman lol.To top things off I think I may have just downloaded a virus that isn't being picked up by my virus scanner
One of my user account for window xp proffesional is missing.Orginally i had one user account and then i decided to make another one. When I was making the second one I had to choose adminstrative powers because it said that I didn't had any other accounts with adminstrative powers. Then after i restarted my original account was missing and I was like wtf! My files are all gone now.The original account name was Administrator. I still have the files for it in my C:Documents and Settings Administrator So how do I get it back?
Windows XP Home SP2 in a Gateway Performer 1300 P4 I recently purchased a used computer locally from a private party. It seemed to work fine. Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.
I wish to protect my admin account and set up another account with administrative like features and import my other programmes and of course go online. I have heard that by setting up an account such as this can prevent most virus programmes from completely penetrating your system - is this true? anyway how do i go about this in a straightforward way? any links for tututorials are welcomed as usual.
I had set it up with the Admin Account turned on. Then for some odd reason, it just quit working and instead, it logs onto her son's old account and all the settings are different. When I start in Safe Mode, I can see the Admin Account as a choice, but not in Full Mode. I know there is a trick to it, but haven't used it for so long I have forgotten what it is. What is the trick?
There was a "guest" Account, and an account that said "Owner". No "Administrator" account.I bought this as a "beater" PC to keep in the rec room, storage for pics, tunes and games etc It was a used PC from a Dell repair shop, in "original working order", and I'm starting to wonder if the guy that worked there didn't use it for target practice with his programming gun.Anyhow, our 15-year-old-going-on-40 thought she would start chatting with classmates after we went to bed, and a-HA! Busted. So I, in all my *finite* wisdom, thought I would get the best of the situation and delete all user accounts, and put in a fresh Admin password. I Was Wrong.I triumphantly deleted the account labeled "Owner", thinking the pc would default to "Administrator" login screen, if not bypassing the Welcome Screen altogether. So, I rebooted and, much to my chagrin, the Welcome Screen showed up alright, but with NO USERS to click on. Nothing. No "Guest", no "User", No "Owner", and no "Administrator"- the entire right side of the Welcome Screen is a BLANK "list".
My XP now consists of multiple accounts. I want to make it to be just one without any passwords whatsoever ( I am the admin). So I just delete all accounts leaving the admin one or is there any way to reset everything?
I disabled my administrator account on XP pro without setting up any other account as admin and now I can't make any changes on my computer. How do I restore the admin account or set anew one?
After I last booted there is no longer an "Administrator" login choice. The Administrator account also does not show on the "User Accounts" screen accessed from control panel. It does show under Administrative Tools. I am now logged in as another user with administrative rights, but need to log back in as Administrator since I do most of my work under the Administrator account. How do I get the Admin login back?
Deleted the main user. Now he is logging on the pc using a guest account which he also created. how can i get back and log into the admin. is there a any specific user name and password that i might write and log in? or what are the exact steps? i tried from Safe mode. but also couldn't log in.
I recently hooked my computer up after 6 long months and have forgotten my admin acct name and password both. I thought you went in safe mode and went from there to reset, but it still comes up logging me in as guest and also, the keyboard doesn't work in safe mode for me. I called the lovely people at Dell for tech support and they would like $49.00 for 72 hours of tech support! UGH!!! So, the super. I talked to suggest I come here and see if I can get help.
Got on my computer and figured out I had made myself admin (i was on limited). i did it via the safe mode/"hidden" account method. they figured this out, password protected it and changed me back to limited. i know this sounds goofy, but it really is ridiculous. my mom says she's gonna change me back to admin but she's too damn lazy to do it. The more i bug her about it, the more she gets pissed off.
I have a password set up on my admin account and now for some reason, when the computer comes out of sleep, it does not ask for the password. How can I get it ask for password?
Using Windows XP Pro SP2. As I'm the only user on a standalone PC, I didn't use to bother with a password and Windows would log me in automatically.
Then I found I had to have a password in order to get Task Scheduler to work, so I set one, then used UserPasswords2 to again set my account to log in automatically.
This works fine except that I cannot now find a way to access the built-in Administrator account.
Before I used UserPasswords2, I could get to the Admin account by starting in Safe Mode (the trick of pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del twice I've seen here never worked for me, apparently because Windows thinks I am part of a workgroup rather than a domain). This worked whether I had a password set on my own account or not.
Now, however, I get automatically logged in even in Safe Mode, with no chance to choose the Admin account.
IS there any way of doing this so that I can keep auto login, keep Task Scheduler happy and still get to the Admin account if I need to?
she clicked on one of those web ads and now it is loaded with spyware and malware, cannot conventionally get on admin account, and on the limited account it barely works (on the admin account nothing loads, cannot run explorer.exe either) on the limited all system functions are disabled (system restore etc)
I was hoping someone could help me out with this.I recently changed my account privelieges to be an administrator and after a few hiccups logging in, i finally logged into a new screen and layout but lost all my files - everything from music to Word documents and pictures.
Windows XP Home edition.Recently had to reinstall in case that might be relevant.I was trying to tidy up a bit by removing some programs from start up using msconfig. Will not allow me to do so and indicatess I may have to log in with an account with admin rights. I am using an acount set up as computer admin. Do I need to boot up in safe mode to do these maintenance things?
When setting printer to spooling, printing is only possible under admin account. Otherwise any program from which I'm trying to print just hangs.WinXP (SP2), Dell Optiplex GX260, HP DJ-930C.
I have a Windows XP Pro, SP2 customer. We are attempting to modify the registry key for the "Everyoneincludesanonymous" from a value of 0 to 1. When he selects "OK" he gets a message that says he cannot change this value. In fact he cant change any registry data and he is the admin.
