My XP now consists of multiple accounts. I want to make it to be just one without any passwords whatsoever ( I am the admin). So I just delete all accounts leaving the admin one or is there any way to reset everything?
View 1 RepliesOne of my user account for window xp proffesional is missing.Orginally i had one user account and then i decided to make another one.When I was making the second one I had to choose adminstrative powers because it said that I didn't had any other accounts with adminstrative powers. Then after i restarted my original account was missing and I was like wtf! My files are all gone now.The original account name was Administrator. I still have the files for it in my C:Documents and Settings Administrator So how do I get it back?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWindows XP Home SP2 in a Gateway Performer 1300 P4 I recently purchased a used computer locally from a private party. It seemed to work fine. Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.

Specifically, When on the Logon Screen ther is information pertaining to the Users Unread Email Information. I have changed to a new email address (because of SPAM) and it still shows "XXX unread mail messages, x programs running" under a Users name. I would like to change so it sees the new email account and reflects accurate number of unread messages.
my girlfriends daughter deleted all the user accounts out her laptop (a compaq evo n800c running windows xp professional with service pack 3) except for one account that she changed to a limited access account so now you can only log onto that account and can make no changes to the computer its programs or create new user accounts.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI made a HUGE mistake today. I was configuring 2 'puters at a time & accidently made the only admin account into a limited account. At first, I swear, I remember seeing the at least one other account that was an admin but I guess not. The login screen is a bit wierd as well. Instead of it being the new xp screen with the users' icon it has the old 2000 version with the window asking for the username & password. I tried to enter the UN in that I thought I remember seeing & a variety of possible passwords but nada.
1. is it possible to reverse the limited restrictions on the formerly admin account without any other admin account. This seems unlikely but I guess there has to be a way, right? (GOD!, I hioe there is a way!)
2. If there really is another admin account (it seems unlikely that windows would allow the only account to be changed to limited access) then how can I recoup the forgotten password. I didnt make a passwords disks.
I logged into my admin user account today and suddenly the admin profile has been wiped out. I'm guessing that XP uses a similar method as is done on unix in terms of user profiles, ie a flat file to hold user preferences and what not.In any case I had all these settings for the admin account for things such as mouse, outlook express, startup programs etc. Now when I log into the account it's like I just created it for the first time. Outlook express is no longer set up which is really annoying because I'm worried now that I might lose all my emails and address book if I set it up again ( you know with the pop server settings and stuff)Any thoughts on this? How can I get my admin "profile" back. Where the hell did it go. I'm assuming it's a file somewhere and for some reason the user account program can no longer find it and assumes a new account has been created.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed a few programs last night and I lost all my admin privileges. I'm using an account that has admin rights, and yet these happened:
- run button in the start menu has disappeared.
- turn off button has also disappeared; I can only log off
- I cannot run the task manager when I press ctrl-alt-del
- some sys tray applications stopped being started up with the windows (skype, msn messenger, icq, adobe lightroom, daemontools)
- when I load Adobe Photoshop CS2, I get this message that says "You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have administrator privileges".
- I'm sure there're more things waiting to be discovered................
OK here I go with the problem- to start, there are no admin privilages on any account even the admin account. The guest account has been blocked and when you get to the welcome page bit there are no user names, so currently we are having to press alt, ctrl, del twice to get a weird boxy thing up to sign in. Now I have a problem because I have been given a new version of XP to install on my PC but I can't do it.I have no idea if that makes any sense to any one out there, but I would really apreciate any help or even suggestions, I am a desperate woman lol.To top things off I think I may have just downloaded a virus that isn't being picked up by my virus scanner

It gave me a blank account as if I had nothing on it... ever. is there some way to recover my account or at least scavange some files(like my all-important hundreds of bookmarks full bookmarks file) from it? no system restore is not turned on, sadly.

I had a situation where the user's accoutn was in both groups but when trying to install software,it appeared as if he did not have enough privileges. One of my technicians signed in as administrator and was able to install the software without a problem. When he signed in as the user who was in both Power Users and Admins, he said the install did not work. So the general question is how does Windows decide how to apply group membership roles.

When I came back to that account on which I reset the password on, some of the things are reset. I noticed that one thing that is reset is the MSN Messenger background images. For the Background of MSN Messenger, I had other downloaded background pictures in the Backgrounds tab, but now I don't. There only saved in my folder.

My Standard Account got reset for the 2nd time. Firstly, when I didn't use my account for 4 days once I came to log on I realised that 'Personalized Settings' was showing up at the top left hand corner. This came again after I didn't use the account for one day. By reset I mean, the background wallpaper reset to default and the desktop folders not showing up. But when I went into 'Documents and Settings' in my administrator account (which didn't get reset), all the folders were showing up in my C Drive/Documents and Settings/ folder. Once I right-clicked on a folder on my system when this happened for the first time, my system froze. The system also froze when opening any file. This started happening a few weeks after I had installed COMODO Firewall which might be a coincidence even though I don't think it is but all these error messages/dialog box popped up on my account, roughly like 'Invalid or corrupt jarfile...' but on the administrator account none of these errors showed up when this happened on my account. In addition, this issue also happened when I changed my account from Standard to Administrator but this didn't change anything. When this happened for the first time, to solve the issue I made a new account and then copied all my files/folders over from my old account to the new one but because this problem has happened again, I predict that this will keep on happening again on every new account I make. I have also run malware scans which didn't detect any viruses.
Is there any way to get on admin account if your not an admin on that computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've gotten myself in somewhat of a pickle. I have a system that I had built for my husband. I later built a new box for him and decided to sell the previous one. A friend wanted to buy it so I purchased a copy of Windows XP so they'd have their own license, but instead of rebuilding the box, I wiped all the pertinent programs and info they didn't have licenses for and changed the license number to theirs. The problem is, I want to change the user account name under c:documents and settings to reflect the new name.I have created a new ADMIN account, logged in as this account and renamed the account "mitch" to "don". All this does is creates a new user "don" and moves the "my documents" (I have downloaded numerous pdf files that I've created instructing him on how to update antivirus, antispyware and general info on computer use, security, etc. and placed it in the My Documents folder) from "mitch" to don".

I gave it admin privileges and a password. Now, my other admin account is gone and I can't access any admin files from my new account. I reviewed the forums and found this is a common problem but I couldn't find any resolution for my specific problem. Please help! I would hate to erase my hardrive and re-install windows! No "Administrator" account.I bought this as a "beater" PC to keep in the rec room, storage for pics, tunes and games etc It was a used PC from a Dell repair shop, in "original working order", and I'm starting to wonder if the guy that worked there didn't use it for target practice with his programming gun.Anyhow, our 15-year-old-going-on-40 thought she would start chatting with classmates after we went to bed, and a-HA! Busted. So I, in all my *finite* wisdom, thought I would get the best of the situation and delete all user accounts, and put in a fresh Admin password. I Was Wrong.I triumphantly deleted the account labeled "Owner", thinking the pc would default to "Administrator" login screen, if not bypassing the Welcome Screen altogether.So, I rebooted and, much to my chagrin, the Welcome Screen showed up alright, but with NO USERS to click on. Nothing. No "Guest", no "User", No "Owner", and no "Administrator"- the entire right side of the Welcome Screen is a BLANK "list".
View 14 Replies View Relatedim tired of watching silent videos from Internet. im pretty decent at looking up information on the web but i couldnt provide this time so bare with me as this is my first time posting anything in any forum. i have a computer that my download happy stepmom screwed up and crashed. it worked great untill she went crazy and spent 10-16 hours a day everyday on myspace and she evidently followed every lead from myspace to download something. a total of about 100 gb worth of downloads. and then it crashed when i was on vacation. and because she couldnt get off myspace for a week untill i got home she did a system recovery herself without any technical knowledge or experience. and ever since then there has been no sound. she had me try to fix it once but she had withdraws after about 30 minutes and kicked me off to go download more crap. she moved out and i finally have unrestricted time allowances. four months later with no way of backing up all my music videos documents and almost legal programs i cant seem to log on to the admin account to replace the driver manually.

when i boot into safe mode the screen pops up with the user account and the admin account(no password) but when i click on the admin account it says "loading personal settings" and then thats it i have control of the mouse up untill a time several hours later. but it never leaves that screen. when i click on the user account the thing logs right in. i figured since the user account has admin abilities i could delete the defective driver manually but it says i dont have rights to do that.
how do you get your administrative account back if you changed it to restricted? is that even possible? i cant do/download anything now!

The Administrator account also does not show on the "User Accounts" screen accessed from control panel. It does show under Administrative Tools. I am now logged in as another user with administrative rights, but need to log back in as Administrator since I do most of my work under the Administrator account. How do I get the Admin login back?

I thought you went in safe mode and went from there to reset, but it still comes up logging me in as guest and also, the keyboard doesn't work in safe mode for me. I called the lovely people at Dell for tech support
and they would like $49.00 for 72 hours of tech support! UGH!!! So, the super. I talked to suggest I come here and see if I can get help.
