Sep 1, 2005i cant work my task bar. i feel like a fool. i have changed the layout of the task bar on accident and now i cant get it back to where it was.

Task Bar Settings Changed Automatically
Aug 21, 2005What would cause the task bar settings to change? ie: the ability to view inactive icons disappears. Can not access the volume control. A reboot sets it back up with the ability to view inactive task bar functions through the expand task bar icon.

Apr 22, 2010I run a fairly old but trusty Dell desktop machine with Windows XP (Service Pack 3). It's been absolutely fine since I've had it and I've updated the ram some time ago. Then last night for absolutely no apparent reason, when I turned it on and it booted up it immediately looked 'different'. The task bar had changed colour and several of the icons were missing. The text was also in a slightly different font. I then got an error message which reads: 'Exception EOleSysError in module Skype.exe at 00095A71. The RPC server is unavailable.'

Dec 18, 2009I had a file that I could not open in order to read (CompositeLabProWindows). I hastily went to properties in change the file to a messenger file. The file that open and I was able to read the file how ever, an order for the file to work properly I should have been left alone and not tampered with. The men how many times I download the program is still opens up in Windows messenger. My problem is that I need to restore it back to the way it was prior, and remove that the fault mechanism that all some unknown files open up the messenger.

Sep 4, 2005I'm not sure where to ask this, but How do I manage to get the same layout as this forum? i.e. the post headers on the left side and the reply on the right. Is there a simple table format I can code into a template All forums should be laid out this way IMHO. The forum developers have all went for the wrong format, meaning we do double the clicking or unnecessary scrolling. This is the correct format (except they seem to load all replies in the thread when we unfold a thread, which means wasting time waiting for all the replies to load)

Jun 28, 2006I don't even know what the proper name for this problem is. I'll try my best to paint an easy picture: basically, the entire screen (not physical part) of windows xp os is flipped. the system tray/task bar is on my left side. EVERYTHING including my wallpaper, windows login screen, folders, programs, IE browser - all of them requires me to tip my head to the left side if i want to do anything. This is truly an odd incident and I didn't even know how to begin a google search without knowing how to even identify such problem.

Nov 23, 2006Out of no where my computer ceases to be able to multi-task. For example. I am playing a game while listening to music. When I hold down a button in the game to walk the music becomes choppy. I have also noticed that when I am using one program something the CPU usage is usually 88-95% usage on the program which makes it impossible to do anything else while using the program. This all started happening about 2 days after I re-installed my OS.
Also system restore doesn't seem to work. It always says "System restore failed: nothing on your hard drive was changed." but I know that the restore point is different from what I have on my computer right now.

Mar 1, 2005I changed from a dial-up connection to cable (Road Runner). Since then, my search engines have changed (when I search from the IE address bar, it uses MSN search now), and many pages that load, although faster, have the message "error on page" at the bottom. Outlook Express became my default email with the Road Runner email address, but most of the time it does not respond. Also, several games are slow to respond or do not respond at all (specifically CSI games and Hunting Unlimited). I run adaware and spybot at least once a week if not more, and defrag regularly. Are there extra precautions I should take with a cable connection?

The other two are marked Password and Confirm Password. Task Manager And Task Bar Not Responding
Feb 27, 2006I recently downloaded some media files and straight after my computer slowed down to a crawl and then would not respond. The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

Sep 15, 2006I was messing around with CCleaner and deleted something to do with an old version of McAfee (which isn't even on my computer anymore) from the registry. Yes, it was stupid to mess with the registry I guess because I failed to make the backup and now my computer won't boot. I get the blue screen that says there was an error 0x0000008e, or something like that.
I have tried using F8 and choosing the last known good configuration but it doesn't work. Also, I can boot into safe mode and I tried running a system restore but after it finished and I rebooted, it said that I couldn't restore from that point.I haven't really tried another restore because I am a little afraid to do anything. I don't want to risk losing access in safe mode because I need to be able to back up some of my files if in case I have to do a reformat.
