I was wondering if anyone knew how to save/maintain the spatial layout of icons in a folder (Windows XP Pro)? I've seen threads about saving/restoring icon layouts on the desktop, but not within any given folder. I'm pretty spatially-oriented and that would be great if it was possible.
View 3 RepliesRunning windows XP Pro and networked wirelessly to a windows XP home with admin priveleges. Both have latest service packs. Had same problem as some past threads regarding recalling folder view settings. Followed that advice and deleted the recommended registry lines + applied Kelly's BAG Limit fix. Reset individual folder views/settings and these now saved OK. EXCEPT as follows:Through My Comp I open Drive C: and window opens at size/pos saved but does not remember that I set VIEW/FOLDERS for a split pane.If I then continue and expand, say, My Documents, or any other folder which has had its view defined and saved, then close current window, the next time I open a folder from my desk top (eg My folder, Download, etc) it opens at the size and view settings of the "Drive C:" window. I can then reset that window view again until I repeat steps above when it is again lost.

Is there a simple table format I can code into a template All forums should be laid out this way IMHO. The forum developers have all went for the wrong format, meaning we do double the clicking or unnecessary scrolling. This is the correct format (except they seem to load all replies in the thread when we unfold a thread, which means wasting time waiting for all the replies to load)

I'll try my best to paint an easy picture: basically, the entire screen (not physical part) of windows xp os is flipped. the system tray/task bar is on my left side. EVERYTHING including my wallpaper, windows login screen, folders, programs, IE browser - all of them requires me to tip my head to the left side if i want to do anything. This is truly an odd incident and I didn't even know how to begin a google search without knowing how to even identify such problem.

One of my friends told me that it can take a little longer on some computers so I let it stay on all night long it was still on the same thing when I got up. I've tried every thing that I know. Everything seems to be working right also I was wondering I've got a new CPU coming that I'm going to install would I need to reinstall windows if I get it to install on this CPU?

The reason is because I had to recreate the My Pictures and My Music folders a while back when I had to create a new account and delete a previous one due to having lost my password. Right now they simply look like plain folders on the Start Menu. (Using Windows XP Start Menu) If the folder you want to change is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search. Right-click the folder you want to change, and then click Properties. On the Customize tab, under Folder pictures, click Choose Picture. Click the picture you want to use to identify the folder in Thumbnails view. To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents. You must be in Thumbnails view to see the folder picture. To switch to Thumbnails view, on the View menu, click Thumbnails. In Thumbnails view, Windows displays up to four images from your folder on the folder icon by default. The images Windows displays are the last four images you modified. So I did what it said and went to the properties for the folder. But for some reason, there was no cutomize tab.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know when or what could have caused the bright yellow star folder icon for the Favorites that links to IE but now I see I have a plain old regular folder icon. It's never been moved out of the original spot which is C:/Documents and Settings/user/Favorites. This does not make the folder unusable as IE still saves and gets shortcuts from it. I'm wondering if any of you out there have ever ran into this or any ideas of getting getting the original star icon back. This is on a WINXP Pro system with all the latest Microsoft updates.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI hope someone knows the solution to this.On the favorites bar in IE6, when you click on the default folder icon it changes to an open folder as the list of links expands. I changed the yellow folders to different colors but would like to be able to have them change to an open folder of the same color when clicked on rather then staying as the same icon. Does anybody know of a way to do that? I know there must be a different path to the 2 icons (open and closed). I have made the icons in the colors I want in both open and closed but can't figure out how to get it to work.

I can copy the same folder to the desktop and customize the icon.My old machine running Windows XP Pro allowed customization of Favorites Folders and this machine seems to allow me to do it, but when I am done the manilla folder icon still remains stubbornly there. Folder seems to be read only. Windows Firewall is turned off. Web root Spy Sweeper is off, though I think new version runs a process no matter what.

View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen I downloaded the updated drivers for my hp scanner software, an icon appeared on my desktop and if I right click it to delete it my computer freezes. If I drag it to the recycle bin or any other folder it just duplicates it and it is still on the desktop. I can't find anywhere else where I could delete it from the registry for example or add/delete programs list. I can't rename it , to try to delete it, because of the freezing issue. I will never use it so It bothers me that its there.

For Example: For the C: Icon, it would be under the divider named Hard Drive, for the D: E: and A: Icons, they would be under the divider named Removable Media. So that's what's missing. The dividers for each group of Icons. I have it on my other accounts, but it's just on one account that it is missing. Is there any other way I can make the dividers appeare? Why aren't they there? View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. I just got into a little trouble with my explorer. Whenever I double-click on a folder, it opens in a new window, not in the same one. I even changed "folder option>>general>>open each folder in same window" but with no result. I was actually trying to change the icon for the 'file folder' and I dont really know what I did (went to 'folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced>>change icon....but I changed the icon back to the original icon again) , but from that time, I am unable to change it back to open folders in the same window. In the 'actions' (folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced) section (after i changed the icon) all I could see was a 'find' option. It was opening 'search' window every time I double clicked on a folder, so I created a new action called open and selected 'explorer' as the application to use and then set this 'open' as default. Although it solved the initial problem of opening the 'search' window, it still opens every folder in a new window.

What I mean is: I insert a flash card into my PC and transfer a folder onto the flash card. The icon of the folder will change from what it was on my PC to a generic folder on the flash drive. View 4 Replies View RelatedI really need a help here. About two days ago I was trying to improve the speed of my system. I think I have delete an important file. My curent problem is that When I rightclick a desktop icons I only get an hour glass, the system stops responding to any thing. The only way out of it it to either log off or shut down and restart.When I open the recycle bin though it appears full on the desktop icon I could not see any item on it.If I try do delete, move this folder or any of the command on the left file/folder task pane I only get hour glass. The only way out of it is ctrl+alt+del, task manager (program not responding) end task.

The icon on the desktop for IE shows fine but when i try to click on it, it creates a shortcut for internet explorer. if click on IE from the start menu, it opens IE with no problems.
