I'm going to ask a question which is something related to programming in windows.. Is there a way that i can add my own icon to the existing file and folder icon like dropbox.Changing desktop.ini is the only way for changing folder icons??How can i add my own icon to the existing file icon(like a tick on below every file icon).

I was wondering how to fix this problem, the icon for internet explorer in the start menu shows up as an unknown file icon. The icon on the desktop for IE shows fine but when i try to click on it, it creates a shortcut for internet explorer. if click on IE from the start menu, it opens IE with no problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. I just got into a little trouble with my explorer. Whenever I double-click on a folder, it opens in a new window, not in the same one. I even changed "folder option>>general>>open each folder in same window" but with no result. I was actually trying to change the icon for the 'file folder' and I dont really know what I did (went to 'folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced>>change icon....but I changed the icon back to the original icon again) , but from that time, I am unable to change it back to open folders in the same window. In the 'actions' (folder options>>file types>>file folder>>advanced) section (after i changed the icon) all I could see was a 'find' option. It was opening 'search' window every time I double clicked on a folder, so I created a new action called open and selected 'explorer' as the application to use and then set this 'open' as default. Although it solved the initial problem of opening the 'search' window, it still opens every folder in a new window.

Somehow the desktop icon (which would minimize all open programs and show the desktop) has disapeared. Does anyone know how to add it back to the task bar?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI really need a help here. About two days ago I was trying to improve the speed of my system. I think I have delete an important file. My curent problem is that When I rightclick a desktop icons I only get an hour glass, the system stops responding to any thing. The only way out of it it to either log off or shut down and restart.When I open the recycle bin though it appears full on the desktop icon I could not see any item on it.If I try do delete, move this folder or any of the command on the left file/folder task pane I only get hour glass. The only way out of it is ctrl+alt+del, task manager (program not responding) end task.
View 4 Replies View Relatedno IE icon on desktop or in programs. i have internet access through verizon. i recently got windows update to install IE7 in the hope that would restore the icon/program but the only way i can access the internet is via the verizon browser. i clearly installed IE7 because now the "sidebar" of my verizon browser says that "sidebar i currently not compatible with IE7...". so why can't i get the IE7 icon in my program list or desktop?

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter looking at the display settings and closing them, my icon disappeared. A file search on all *.cpl files show that the display.cpl file still exists
and I can create a shortcut to the desktop and run the program.But, I'd like my icon back.I believe the problem was created by having all my icons underlined so I only have to do a single Left click to bring up the program.
I've winxp Home with SP2 system, yesterday my daughter had installed the program 'MS Plus' from the XP Installation CD which was not installed earlier in the machine. My OS is original, but to-day on opening the system I'm seeing that the icon of Hard Drive(E : Drive)to which the program was installed went missing and in its place another icon (which generally represents for any unidentified file) has taken its place.

The reason is because I had to recreate the My Pictures and My Music folders a while back when I had to create a new account and delete a previous one due to having lost my password. Right now they simply look like plain folders on the Start Menu. (Using Windows XP Start Menu) If the folder you want to change is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search. Right-click the folder you want to change, and then click Properties. On the Customize tab, under Folder pictures, click Choose Picture. Click the picture you want to use to identify the folder in Thumbnails view. To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents. You must be in Thumbnails view to see the folder picture. To switch to Thumbnails view, on the View menu, click Thumbnails. In Thumbnails view, Windows displays up to four images from your folder on the folder icon by default. The images Windows displays are the last four images you modified. So I did what it said and went to the properties for the folder. But for some reason, there was no cutomize tab.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know when or what could have caused the bright yellow star folder icon for the Favorites that links to IE but now I see I have a plain old regular folder icon. It's never been moved out of the original spot which is C:/Documents and Settings/user/Favorites. This does not make the folder unusable as IE still saves and gets shortcuts from it. I'm wondering if any of you out there have ever ran into this or any ideas of getting getting the original star icon back. This is on a WINXP Pro system with all the latest Microsoft updates.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI hope someone knows the solution to this.On the favorites bar in IE6, when you click on the default folder icon it changes to an open folder as the list of links expands. I changed the yellow folders to different colors but would like to be able to have them change to an open folder of the same color when clicked on rather then staying as the same icon. Does anybody know of a way to do that? I know there must be a different path to the 2 icons (open and closed). I have made the icons in the colors I want in both open and closed but can't figure out how to get it to work.

I can copy the same folder to the desktop and customize the icon.My old machine running Windows XP Pro allowed customization of Favorites Folders and this machine seems to allow me to do it, but when I am done the manilla folder icon still remains stubbornly there. Folder seems to be read only. Windows Firewall is turned off. Web root Spy Sweeper is off, though I think new version runs a process no matter what.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago
When I downloaded the updated drivers for my hp scanner software, an icon appeared on my desktop and if I right click it to delete it my computer freezes. If I drag it to the recycle bin or any other folder it just duplicates it and it is still on the desktop. I can't find anywhere else where I could delete it from the registry for example or add/delete programs list. I can't rename it , to try to delete it, because of the freezing issue. I will never use it so It bothers me that its there.

For Example: For the C: Icon, it would be under the divider named Hard Drive, for the D: E: and A: Icons, they would be under the divider named Removable Media. So that's what's missing. The dividers for each group of Icons. I have it on my other accounts, but it's just on one account that it is missing. Is there any other way I can make the dividers appeare? Why aren't they there? What I mean is: I insert a flash card into my PC and transfer a folder onto the flash card. The icon of the folder will change from what it was on my PC to a generic folder on the flash drive. View 10 Replies View Relatedproblem setting the CD/DVD icon to return to it's normal icon in My Computer. It currently has the Audio CD icon. I've played an audio CD awhile ago and since then, the icon has remained. This icon is causing problems when I open a Data CD. When the Data CD is inserted the Audio icon emains. When I click on the icon, Media Player starts. I have disabled the auto-run or auto-play setting prior to this problem. I would have to right-click and select Open to get to the data files.
Under Windows Explorer, when I click on the icon, it shows the contents of
the data CD but the Audio icon is still present.
Just wondering why when you drag an IE http short cut to the desktop, it does not display the site logo icon. Sometimes, they will show and others not. I have had them even come and go after different sessions. I log on to Internet both through work firewall and at home on network through firewall and in motels through open and firewall protected isps.
