Non-existent User Passwords
Sep 5, 2006
I have a PC with Win XP SP2. There are 2 users on the PC, each admin users, each with no password. When you start the PC, it displays the Welcome screen, and you can click on either user's icon and Windows logs you in without asking for a password. So far so good. However, if you a)try and switch users, or b)logout and try to log in as either user, Windows now asks for a user password. But there is no password configured! You have to restart the PC every time you want to switch users.

Fresh install of XP, I deleted the main user just so I could use another name. Well I restart and now everytime I get an error message saying that the password is incorrect, I press accept, then it shows me the blue logn screen where I can choose the other account.Where can I make Windows not try to automatically load the previous user, and automatically load the new one?

Yesterday I started up the desktop PC (a Dell Dimension 8400 Series), to find that a password had spontaneously appeared on the sole User account.I attempted a Safe Mode start to try and log in as the Admin (also previously unpassworded), in order to reset the User password, only to be faced with another password that hadn't been there previously.I have never put any passwords on either the User or Admin accounts, and these new passwords have seemingly come out of nowhere.

This is a new problem to me. I'm familiar with XP's search not finding files that actually exist (particularly when searching for files containing the specification) but this time it's finding files that, as far as I can see, don't exist. And it's doing it when searching for a file specification. Yes, I have view hidden files turned on.The only clue I have is that the files that do exist show the full path, e.g. C:LnDevetc while the files that don't exist show the path as etc. Search In is set to LnDev. Since I'm sending the results to a third party simply ignoring the bogus files isn't an option. So far the only 'solution' I've found is to set up a Win2K machine & conduct the search on it. Win2K shows the correct results, WinXP doesn't (verified on 2 machines)

It seems to be performing fine in most respects, but when you I go to save a file (any file through any program) and click on "My computer", there are a number of "Ghost Drives" that appear lettering from F to M. If I click on the "My computer" icon on the desktop, there are only the basic drives listed ( C: D: E in addition to M: which is the drive letter that was arbitrarily assigned by the computer for my Flash Drive where I run a great deal of portable programs from. Some days there are only a few ghost drives, and I ignore it and move one, but today I'm alarmed by the number of drives that are popping up

The Problem: I'm encoding videos in Adobe Media Encoder, and the video looks great, but the audio sounds horrible, even though on the source file, the audio is perfect. What do I do?? I acquired the source footage with Fraps. In the uncompressed Fraps version, the sound is perfect. Every time I try to encode it, I get the horrid noise you hear in the video, and then silence. My hypothesis: I'm guessing it has something to do with the source file, as I've encoded other videos with the same audio settings as this, and the audio turned out ok. But what could the difference by?

I installed Windows Vista on a slave drive of a computer which has Windows XP as its master drive. I have now taken out the har ddrive with Windows Vista on it, but it still gives me the choice of booting from either Windows XP or Windows Vista.I edited the Boot.ini file, but it didn't have Windows Vista listed as a bootable option, so I left the Boot.ini file alone. It currently looks like this:;
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.

When yesterday I turned on the computer and did not have to enter any passwords. I finally realized I could use the wireless set up utility. I ran the wireless set up wizard from the control panel put my flash drive in the usb port, took my flash drive out of the desktop usb port hub, put it into my laptop, installed. i put the flash drive back into the USB port hub at the desk top and nothing happened - the mouse wouldn't move and no keyboard, so I hit restart.....

So I had XP Home and had one user "Quinn". I upgraded to XP Pro and for some reason, I was now prompted with a popup log in (similar to the one most people have and that I have at work) asking for a password for a user "Matthew". I don't recall setting up this user (my name) and had no password, but if I hit OK I was logged in with no problems.I looked into the User Accounts and saw that Quinn was still the administrator and that Matthew was a user. So I figured I'd keep it simple and got rid of Matthew since , well, I was Quinn and had no password for that account either.Now, when I boot up, I get a prompt for Matthew but by entering no password, I can't get in. The same happens when I try with Quinn.So after all of that here's where I'm at: I need to find a way to get into my computer and bypass the logins since I don't have passwords for wither account.

Recently a friend of mine used my computer while I was in the shower. I have no problem with my friends using my laptop at all. Although, he felt the need to "delete browser History" from IE7, all of it. With that, he deleted all my saved usernames and passwords, which I never can remember and that's why I save them. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me (different users).
In the dialog window for "Delete Browser History", is there a way to disable the "Delete Forms" and/or "Delete Passwords" buttons? I've seen a way to disable the "Delete History" button from that dialog box. (Pictured Below) I have tried using the same registry edits as the "Delete History" button tweak, but changing the relative info for forms and passwords, and it does not work. I'm running XP PRO - Updated as of this AM.

I have turned it off in Autocomplete and put it back on and no effect.
i did some changes in the control panel as advised by a website to boost game speed.

I have also lost the windows xp theme and cannots ee how to restore it.The option is no longer present in the themes available.

I have several e-mail accounts set up in Outlook on my desktop that I want to port over to a new laptop. It will save me the trouble of having to re-create them all over again on the laptop, plus I'm not sure I can remember all the passwords. On the MS website I've searched for "export email accounts" and several variations on that but have come up with nothing. The only thing I can find is how to import the accounts from Outlook Express into Outlook, which is not what I'm looking for.
