I have an old DOS program called Symate Plus (Square D) for coding PLCs.(It dates from about 1993.)On one computer running XP Professional it runs fine, either in a window or full screen.On my other computer running XP Home it starts okay but the ten function keys won't work. (The program is accessed via the function keys.)
I've tried everything I can think of to get it working on my other computer but without luck
Can anyone help with my problem! All of a sudden some of the keys on my keyboard no longer work. Have been into troubleshoot but it could not help. The keyboard has worked fine upto now, then bang gone. One of them is the forward slash so I can no longer search for web pages
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was in the middle of typing and suddenly none of the keys work properly. Most of them won't type anything and the rest are jumbled. "c" will print "-", n will be 7, ";" will be the "page up" key etc. I've reinstalled the keyboard drivers but no success. language/region settings are US as always. no idea why it's suddenly scrambled. keyboard is microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.0A. batteries are fine. XP system. Please help. this is really causing a ton of trouble. I'm using software kboard to type this.

1. At the Windows Welcome screen, arrow keys could move the user selection up & down, but no alphanumeric keys made any visible entry (dot) in password field. Clicking Shut Down and restarting corrected this (for now, anyway).

3. In Control Panel, User Accounts lacks "Change the way users log on or off"! [Is XP SP3's REAL purpose to hose up a nicely-running XP SP2 box, so the owner will FINALLY spring for a Vista system?]
4. Clicking any of the "Learn About." links opens the help page in IE7, but with its contents crowded to the left and the yellow bar at the top. Clicking to allow blocked content (Are you sure? YES!) results in yet another dialog about an ActiveX control that "might be unsafe" but the only new ActiveX control on this PC is one from Symantec, installed during the NAV 2009 upgrade. NAV 2009 was the FIRST product I've run into that did NOT permit its EULA to be selected, printed or saved. I like to keep a record of things I've agreed to, but that text was out of reach! Sixteen screenshots later.
It all started about a month ago when my computer was running very slowly and one day. I got a message saying message saying windows have to shut down due to a critical error. So it shut down and when I tried to reboot it said windows could not run because of a missing windows directory and to run the recovery console on the windows XP CD. Well the problem was that I don�t have the window XP CD just the Toshiba recovery CD which formats the drive and automatically installs windows XP.Well, so I tried using the Toshiba Recovery CD but kept on getting either a bad system partition error, it installed but when I restarted all I got was a blank screen like no operating system was installed, or that same windows directory error. About after the 8th try of using the Toshiba recovery CD I got windows installed successfully. However it ran very very very slow, even at the boot up.

Also pressing F3 key in Explorer for "Find" function with result close down of explorer.exe.They seems startup for a split second and then close itself without notice. When I try to type something involving keys like M J K L U I O
numbers are showing.
I noticed that under those keys are little numbers.
M=0
J=1
K=2
L=3
U=4
I=5
O=6
Also when i try to use shift + one of those keys nothing happens.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSince moving to Win XP I have found that Win Explorer Search Files & Folders function does not work properly (as Win 98 did).I need to search a subset of the files (for example *.pas) to find a file containing a string (for example TLargeInteger). Win 98 would have found this but Win XP returns with no item found when there is definitely a file(s) with that string in it in plain text (ie not unicode). Is there some subtle selection I am not making or is the Win XP Search function broken.

Unable to restore." I tried shutting off Restore Option, to clear restore points, but that did not help. Two Registry cleaner programs don't seem to find/fix the problem, either. View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the end of November, the folks over in the Security forum were kind enough to walk me through a huge problem I was having. My computer has never been better except for one small thing. my "search" function doesn't work. The little doggy is there and if I enter something and then ask it to search files and folders (or anything for that matter), it goes off to search and then nothing happens. Eventually I get the "Program not Responding" window and when I close it, my desktop blinks off for a second and then my Norton systray button is missing.It's weird and I'm sure I deleted something inadvertently while I was getting rid of that terrible trojan. I was just wondering if someone had a suggestion so that I could restore that function. If not, I'll leave it alone because I'm just happy to have my computer back to normal almost. I thought I was going to have to throw it away until those guys saved it for me.

The problem is that when I attempt to search in windows I get a "Unknown error" message. In the past I have gone to reinstalling Windows but that is rather tedious. It seems to still be making automatic restore points periodically along with the ones that I create. However, I am unable to restore to any of the earlier time points.
