View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio Laptop. The keyboard will not respond in windows at the login screen, not even in to go into safemode. It will however work in BIOS, I rebooted several times, still no dice, held down the Fn key and hit keys to no avail. But at the login screen I can hit Fn+f8 and it'll toggle the screen from lcd to external and back, can also eject the cdrom. I am stuck cause i cant login to XP.
I had left my computer on when i left town for a day. When i was back the computer was at the windows login screen. I am assuming that at some point while i was gone an automatic windows upate may have been installed which forced the computer to reboot. the update may have messed up my keyboard drivers.
any help would be greatly appreciated as at this point im stuck!!!! thanks in advance
My laptop keyboard suddenly stopped working he other day. I uninstalled the driver and rebooted and got most, but not all, keboard function back. I removed the keyboard and inspected it but there was no sign of damage or of anything having been spilt on it. Also prior to this there had been no sign of any problem. The key that is completely non functional is del but if I press t or g i get tg and if I press y or h I get yh. Also (in word) pressing [ or , or . causes the first letter is a series to be capitalised whilst - takes you to save file.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWindows Installer was not functioning, among other problems, followed Dell troubleshooting guide to reinstall XP using "R" function on Operating System CD so I wouldn't lose files. Apparently worked, was able to log into most-used account. When I went to 2nd account, instead of a fine line in the space one types in password, a blinking black box appeared and keyboard was unable to type in password. Now blinking box appears on all accounts and I can't type in password on any account. Tried using older keyboard plugged into designated keyboard slot, also tried using new keyboard in USB port, neither worked. This is an old Dell Dimension 4600i series with Win XP Home Edition+SP2. Do I need to do a complete re installation of XP, losing some of my most recent files, or does anyone have another solution? Thanks.
View 2 Replies View Relatedit possible to trace the keys of the keyboard or trace the screens. I have to show the steps for some installation . The only way I know is to se Print screen button and paste that on the Word document, but that is time consuming. I am wondering if this is possible somehow with some kind of trace on ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm tired of my Logitech keyboard which always turns off the standard "F" keys and defaults to proprietary functions. I've already tried the "pass through" option, but it doesn't work in all cases so what would you recommend? Does anyone make a multimedia keyboard like the Logitech Navigator that has standard F-keys? I want a wired keyboard with a standard PS2 plug so I can get into my BIOS settings when necessary.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering about something thats been bugging me for a bit? What are the extra keys on the keyboard for, or more to the point how does one configure them. The KB I use right now only has three extra keys, a sun, a moon, and another(?) I think for power, or stand bye?? But my sisters KB has mega, hers is a MSN 'netboard'. Is there somewhere I can learn how to utilize the extra keys. When I press any of them now they don't do anything?? Help is appreciated, but this is not a pressing,(pretty punny eh), matter, so please help those who really have a problem first! This is just something I have always wanted to know?? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one?? So Thanks again, Graiskye PS just to be clear I have done a pretty good search of archives before posting question, something I encourage ALL posters to do, saves redundant posts, and you will ALWAYS learn something. I browse the posts all the time just reading the titles and checking threads that interest?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHi the other day i tried to turn on my computer but it never reached the log in page, which meant I could not use the computer as I normally have to type in my password to go to my desktop screen. I don't know what to do. By the way this is not that laptop. What it does is, it starts up normally where it goes to the bit where is goes windows xp and then under there is a bar with a small bar sliding inside it, but then instead of going to the blue log in page it just becomes blank and restarts. Please help my currently I have to use this not so good laptop and I just can't live without the other laptop.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThe problem remains however. The @ key is actually the " key, and vice-versa. Also a couple of other keys are reversed too. I've looked everywhere on the net to try and reverse these problems but I'd rather not download a remapping program.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use XP Pro with service pack 2 and never had trouble with sound from my toggle keys. I go through control panel and the accessibility options then put a check mark in toggle keys hit apply and ok, the check mark disappears and I have no sound when I hit the cap lock button on the keyboard, the way I have used it before.I also click on the sound tab and put a check in the use sound sentry check box so it will flash the screen when I accidentally hit the cap lock button. I've never had a problem with these functions before now nothing will stay checked or function at all.

View 14 Replies View Relatedso, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
Just got a new Dell laptop without a PS2 port. I have an external PS keyboard that I want to use with it. I am using a PS2 to USB adapeter extension to plug it into the bus. The device manager will not acknowledge the external hardward via the USB plug.
The keyboard is made by Inland. The CD rom that came with it for the driver has been installed but it does not work because of the USB port issue.
I have a Dell Dimension 5150 which has no PS/2 inputs for Keyboard or Mouse only USB ports.I recently did something I regret now. I was installing a USB TV Tuner which told me I need to install a up to date USB 2.0 Driver which was on the Install CD. I did this, but now my Keyboard and Mouse do Not work when Windows XP starts. The Keyboard works in BIOS with all lights showing on the Keyboard, but as soon as Windows XP starts to load then the lights go off and nothing works. There are no settings that I can see in BIOS that works and I do not have a backup of my Hard Drive.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn a friends laptop, yesterday all of a sudden her keyboard give in and the right hand half of the keyboard stopped working. Well, didn't stop working, but just displayed the wrong characters. I'm 99% sure (don't ever want to be 100% incase ur wrong eh? ) that it isn't a hardware fault, but infact a software problem, but I can't find the source of the problem.I done all the usual checks on the system from my side. I got her to check for spyware/malware/etc, virus scan with latest definitions, the lot. The problem still didn't go away. Under safe mode within the Administrator profile, the keyboard works fine and all the keys work. I couldn't understand why this was, but then she told me last night that she found something out even more puzzling. Even under safe mode, when she goes into HER profile, the keyboard stops working again.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have had a weird problem of the keyboard not working during boot up -- except it WILL let me get into BIOS. And this is the ONLY time it will not work.A little background is in order, however. Previously, the keyboard stopped working, first during boot up, then totally. Then the mouse stopped working as well. Couldn't do anything at all.... The keyboard is a Micro Innovations, and I'd had it plugged into the PS/2, but I eventually found out that if I plugged it into the USB port instead (it goes either way), the keyboard would work. So, I went out & got a USB mouse, and it worked too. So I was thinking that the card was fried.Last night, I decided to boot it into Safe mode to run some scans. And it wouldn't boot into safe mode, just kept ignoring my F8 command, and going straight to Windows. I did find out that it WILL take my DEL command and go into BIOS, where the keyboard works just fine. So tonite I thought I'd try a repair, thinking maybe some files were corrupt. And it will not take any keystroke to boot from the CD. Again, I can still get into BIOS, though. And, as you can see, it is working fine now. This is how it started in the PS/2 port, when it eventually quit working altogether.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI took a side job for a co-worker to fix her computer because when she boots it comes to the blue screen of death. Well, come to find out, the partition of the HD that the OS is loaded on is corrupted so she agreed that we could start from scratch. Sounds fine, right - but no. I'm going to boot from dell's XPsp2 cd (tried multiple cd's) and everything seems fine until I need to actually use the keyboard. A few seconds before the screen comes up that asks you if you want to repair your computer or install windows, the light on the keyboard goes off and nothing works on it. So, I've tried mulitple keyboards and usb ports on the computer (no PS2 ports) - no dice. Tried resetting the bios to the original state - no dice.

View 7 Replies View RelatedA buddy of mine is having problems with his PC. He said when he turns it on it seems to boot up fine (lights on case work) but his screen, mouse and keyboard are not working. Now Im assuming that all those burning out at the same time is next to impossible. I think it might have to do with the PC itself. I have yet to try a different screen and such just to make sure. Also if infact trying another screen fails i obviously will not be able to look in his bios, which leaves me kinda stumped.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell and my keyboard is in pretty bad shape. Some keys are sticky and the key covers (not sure what they are called) are missing making it difficult to type. Are there refurbished ones that would work? Is changing out a keyboard a hard thing to do? Will a generic keyboard work or would it have to be a Dell?
