When I type on key board number 6 key is not working. If I touch any key I see lot of number 6's typing automatically. This is my laptop. I connected a USB key board. It is working. I still have the problem whenever I try to type something.
View 2 RepliesAs a result of installing a game (Fear) ...i now have major graphic issues across windows, the game installed fine, but went belly up threw the into movie (graphically)......I've uninstalled the game, uninstalled my Ati drivers (XTreme-G WarCat Drivers for ATi) along with Catalyst and the corruption is still there after numerous reboots - have I broken my graphics card??? ....the corruption is everywhere, it comes and goes in all windows..... you can even swirl it around with you're mouse! I haven't installed the drivers again just incase a reformat is needed - would that do the trick?? ......the game installed DX9c august during setup.... but then I patched the game with the latest game update - maybe the conflict is there ...
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo recently I got a new monitor assuming that something is wrong with my old one. But the same problem occurs, my monitor still goes blank! Well, ever since I switched my video card (same time I got my old monitor) I was experiencing that problem. People at the store are no help at all since they are so clueless!
So I came to this conclusion, its either my video card that's experiencing problems or my mother board is getting out dated or whatsoever. (I got it back in 2003 and its Pentium 4 hyper-threading) My current mother board doesn't have a monitor slot on the pentium, only has a slot where the video card is. I don't think that could be a problem because when I had my old video card,
My work recently got new computers, so there were kind enough to let us take our old Dells home since they were like three years old. There was a ton of work stuff on this computer, so I decided to format the hard drive and start fresh. Everything was going great until I got to the place in the install where I have to enter the serial number for Windows 2000. I tried my home copy and it would not work. I tried a few other valid key codes and they still do not work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLaptop was put in to hibernation mode, and it did not seem to go down cleanly. Now when it attempts to come up it repeatedly reboots. It gets to the Windows XP splash screen then reboots again. A blue screen flashes, but is too quick to see what it says.
Problem may be due to corrupt hiberfil.sys. Is there a way to get to the C drive using a boot CD? I tried an XP boot CD ISO that I downloaded off the net, but can't get to the C drive.
System is running Windows XP Media Center Edition

so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
My computer will not start up. It boots and and gets to a screen where it asks if I want to start windows normally. I do that and then the window xp logo appears and then it reboots and starts all over again. Right after the window xp logo appears something runs across the screen and disappears to fast to see what it is.I have norton internet and antivirus and the sp2 pack of windows xp installed. However, I have not installed anything recently. Just prior to the problem my comcast high speed internet went down and when it came on that is when I had the problem. I can boot from the CD-rom and have done a check with a cdrom norton and I have no viruses, but it is not the latest viruses on the disk and I dont know how to down load them onto the cdrom from norton site.

i just installed a new msi g31 board along with intel processor. after installation i tried powering off computer but the os shuts down leaving the board still powered up with cpu fan and other case fan still running. I hold down power for more than 5 secs, same result. I have to power off from psu switch from back of tower. Can u give me some in sight to resolve this issue?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile setting up a buddy's HP (no model #) desktop today with XP, we ran into this odd problem.We are having a very difficult time getting the on-board (embedded) peripherals (Ethernet, Audio and Video) to work.Almost always after loading up XP (fresh install), one is able to access the Internet by plugging in an active Ethernet cable (cable modem in this case)/But come to find out there was NO internet connection.
Further investigation revealed that there where NO drivers setup for the embedded (on-board) Ethernet, Video or the Audio peripherals.This desktop recently came out of corporate environment and had a sticker over the name of the motherboard. So we are unable to determine the make/model of it.I was however able to ID the Chipset. It's an Intel i848pG.We found what we "thought" were the correct drivers from Welcome to Intel.
I just bought a new graphics card and i would like to disable my old on-board one and i was told you can do it in BIOS. I have never done anything in BIOS and i don't want to shut off something i need thinking it was the card. I need to know what the card i would be called so i can shut it off.

Is it necessary to reinstall windows when you put a new mobo in your pc? Especially when you change from an Nvidia board to an intel board. Or will reinstalling only the chipset drivers do the trick?
View 34 Replies View Relatedi have a skull trail board, daul Extreme 3.2 Ghz LGA 711 quad core processors, 8 gb of DDR2 ECC ram and Nvidia Quadra 4000 series video card, and 1200 watt tough power power supply, 160 gb Wetern Digital raptor drive and 2 500gb Seagate Barracudas for storage and it runs xp 64 pro. The machine runs fine for 24 hours then i get a hardware malfunction error on the screen, the bios is the latest, the drivers are the latest, the tempratue never gets above 97 F in the case the processors never reach more then 95 F, yet the system still seems to crash there are no dump logs created, I ran every test i can think of on the hardware removed every peice of ram and tried each one by itself for 24 hours, have swapped out the video card, for diffrent brands, disconnected the extra drives, i'm at a lost so lets hear it HIT ME WITH SOME NEW IDEAS please i got just about 6k invested in this beast and it's killing me to find it blue screen once a day
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq computer and have a problem with the restore cd from compaq. I needed to reformat the hard drive because of some crup files. When I put the restore cd in the computer is says the cd's are not for this compaq. I taked to compaq and gave them all the information they ask for and was told that I had the correct cd and it must be a bad cd set. They had me order a new set of cd's from there online store which I did with the part number they gave me after I double checked the number to see if they were correct and I got them in yesterday and still had the same problem. I talked to hp again last night and was told that the mother board most likely needed to be tatoo to match the cd's. I was told to take it to one of there repair stores to have this done. Never heard of a mother board changing it's self.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just had to replace the mother board on my computer Its a Asus P4PE motherboard After replacing the motherboard, I just hooked up the hard drive I was using and the computer did come back up. The new motherboard is another P4PE warranty replacement board from Asus.
The computer is working but I can't get sound or USB services The computer doesn't even seem to know that sound hardware exists on this new motherboard for some reason... The USB, I have no idea why its not working other then the fact I can't get my USB printer or camera to work... Do I have to "Reload" XP? I don't want to loose what's on my hard drive... What should I do to get this right??? In all the years I've had computers I've never had a motherboard die before so I'm not sure how to proceed!!!
