Display Properties Issues-Could Not Change The Default Display Settings
Mar 25, 2008My XP is currently defaulted on it's display settings 640v by 480 pixels and will not allow me to change it. In fact, there is nothing to change it to. I dont know what file I must of deleted, but is there anyway I can download the driver or something to make it so that it can be set on opitions that are higher?

Dec 7, 2007I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.

and I have no idea how to fix it. I checked the display settings but everything is how it's supposed to be. And I don't think it's a video card problem; I have a ATI card to watch tv and the tv works just fine.
Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Feb 2, 2005I have disabled my ATI video card and then the one that comes up after that. Now when booting up the log in screen doesnt come on but i can still log in and then still no display when in windows...I think I just need to enable a video card driver but cant see anything on screen so i have no clue on what to do.

Aug 25, 2007When first booting the system it gets to a windows screen and reboots - ad infinitum. When booted in "safe mode" it reads several files (in DOS - I think) and stops on reading a path on the "C" drive ending with something like ...../AGP 440 or ..../AGP 44? (or something smilar).
Do you think it is looking for graphics drivers?I have gone into the BIOS set up to change from a PCI graphics card to the on-board, and there appears to be no PCI card.
Change Folder Icon On Flash Card?
Dec 20, 2005I typed it several different ways but to no avail. I'm trying to find info on how to change a folder icon on a flash card. What I mean is: I insert a flash card into my PC and transfer a folder onto the flash card. The icon of the folder will change from what it was on my PC to a generic folder on the flash drive. How can I prevent this. The files that are contained in the folder are of Christmas purposes and the Icon that I set for the folder was a Christmas icon.

Aug 20, 2009I have a Compaq EVO D51S SFF which I had plugged to my LCD TV as a media centre, just to watch movies and all. I had not connected this computer to the internet because I did not have a wireless card.I finally installed a wireless card, and then windows started doing all sorts of updates as expected (since the version on the SFF was SP2).Once windows was done with the updates, I started having problems with the screen resolution.
The SFF does not have a stand alone video card, so I had set the resolution at 1024 x 768, and this worked just fine before the updates.Now, the resolution keeps changing and this is a problem because the LCD TV gives me a message saying "Resolution Not Supported", so I can't use the computer unless I connect it to a regular computer monitor, select 1024x768, and then connect to the TV. I connect via VGA port, not DVI (don't have DVI).

Jan 11, 2005When I want to change the way my PC looks I can't do it the way I want. I right click the desktop go to programs, then under the Appearance tab I can only get the looks change by doing it myself, like in 'Windows Classic" I try to change it to "Windows XP Style" but when I click 'OK' or 'apply' the PC freezes. I have to shut off PC with button The computer use to be okay. I did a clean Install of XP from my XP Home Upgrade CD. I really have NO problems but this one, making me NUTSO.

When I tried to follow the instructions after downloading which told me to follow the following path: Right click on the background. Go to properties which pulls up display properties. Click on the Settings tab. Click on the Advanced button. Click on the monitor tab. Then it said to click on Properties but is grayed out so I still cant change the color to more than 4 bits.

Apr 5, 2006Two days ago my laptop display became corrupted. To start with I'll list the problems: On boot loader random $ and & signs appear with a red/green character background On same screen some chars change to others. In windows there are random discoloured pixels everywhere (although the is a sort of pattern to it. This happens when running apps, and the pixels will slowly bleed through on new pages/screens until at full intensity. Games that worked fine the day before now have graphics problems rendering them unplayable. It's not the screen, I connected an external monitor and it showed the same problem. I don't think it's the video card because of the problems at bios (before the video drivers are loaded.) this is my only decent computer and I can't afford to replace it. Screenshot attached. Notice the pink pixels on the white parts.
