I?ve had this problem for a long time it started when my HD die on me (RIP) I think it was at the beginning of the year. I turned my slave into the master. I installed xp on it and it was all good. I don?t know when but a problem started, what happened is folders like C: and My documents and other non customize the folder would change to a music folder and I would only be about to sort the folder out my artist e.g. My doc might become a picture folder type and I can sort the folder out by when the picture was taken which is point less. I also found that the more folder type I choose e.g. music folder type that a folder like C: might change to that type.
hey everyone. im trying to customize my folder icons and in doing so i noticed that there are some folder icons i cant change. most of the folders i can right click on and in the properties window there is a customize tab. Some folders do not include this option. As well, under windows xp will not allow me to change the icon of the default folder type. i know there are various applications such as iconpackager that go in a do it for you , however is there a way to manually change the folder icons for folders such as "program files", "my music", etc ?
A while back I had a program or a tweak that enabled me to change/add to the list on the left side of the window that opens when you want to save or save as. So, if I was saving a photo, instead of clicking on My Documents >> My Pictures, I was able to just click on My Pictures, ect. (See Photo) Does anyone know of a tweak/program that would allow me to do this?
On a Windows Media Center Edition 2004 Notebook Computer I can't seem to assign a custom icon to a folder in Favorites. I can copy the same folder to the desktop and customize the icon.My old machine running Windows XP Pro allowed customization of Favorites Folders and this machine seems to allow me to do it, but when I am done the manilla folder icon still remains stubbornly there. Folder seems to be read only. Windows Firewall is turned off. Web root Spy Sweeper is off, though I think new version runs a process no matter what.
I want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.
I need to know how to save the pictures in the My Pictures folder to CD. I am going to format and reinstall XP Home and if I do, I will lose these pictures unless I save them.
I'm using Win XP Pro SP3. When my files in "My Documents" outgrew my hard drive's capacity a while back I bought a new hard drive and decided to move my "My Documents" onto the new F: drive, leaving everything else on the original hard drive. It seemed like the simplest solution to my problem at the time. The situation does create a few syntax problems revolving around the question "When is the 'My Documents' folder not really the 'My Documents' system folder?" Most of the time I don't have any problems with the arrangement, but there are a couple of anomalies. At present my command line environment variables do not have any easy way to point to "My Documents" because (for example) %userprofile%My Documents points to the folder on c: that used to be the 'My Documents' system folder rather than to the current location of the system folder.
That is not usually a big deal but it may be related to the more frequent problem. A few ill-behaved programs expect to find and store files in %userprofile%My Documents (which is on C: drive) rather than in the actual system folder "My Documents" on F: which makes it harder to find these files when I search for them. Just to 'simplify' the situation I thought about setting a reparse point in the old "My Documents" folder ( %userprofile%My Documents ) that points to the actual system folder (which is F:My Documents ) Tinkering with settings like this has potential to break things in unexpected ways so I thought I'd ask whether there are any obvious problems with the 'solution'. Or are there better ways to keep the user documents on a second hard drive?
Within my, "My Pictures" folder I have a great many sub folders containing thousands of pictures. In all but a couple of folders is the option to view as a filmstrip (which I prefer). However there is a folder (within "My Pictures") that I'm using now that doesn't have that option!Does anyone know why, not all folders in "MY PICTURES", has the option for filmstrip?
How do i change the folder icon for "My Pictures"? That folder, My Music and My Videos don't have a customize tab under properties. I just want the default My Pictures folder icon back which for some reason has disappeared and there's only a standard yellow folder icon in its place.
when i save pictures and put them in my own folder they get mixed up a lot. What i mean by this is i will put them in a certian order then when i restart or click on the folder again they are never the way i put them any idea cause it's annoying
In "My Pictures" folder, I do not have the option of "Burn to CD" under "Picture Tasks". I was able to burn photos to CD, but I had to select "copy files" under "Files and folders" and then select my D Drive as the destination. Can someone please let me know why I don't have the "Burn to CD" option and how I can fix it.
I have a lot of pictures on my laptop. I still have plenty of space left on the hard drive. I save new pictures into a specific folder, then I go to retrieve them and I cannot find them. I can see them in "recent" documents but not in the folder that I put them in.
This morning I wanted to make a back up cd of my documents and I burned it. After, I went into Picasa, where I HAD thousands of photos. Nearly all are gone! The "My Pictures" folder is also gone from "My Documents" on the hard drive, as is all the folders I had in "My Documents." The files seem to be on the cd, but I am not sure they are all there. WHY oh, WHY would the files and photos be GONE from my hard drive? How could just making a cd cause the files to disappear? I can't tell you what a tragedy this is! I had thousands of photos that I had edited and projects I had created. Dates that were with photos are gone, since all the dates now show today's date since that is when I burned the cd. As a possible troubleshooting thought--twice I have tried to start my computer and it has frozen at the "windows is starting up" screen, not even getting to the place where I put my password as an authorized user. Please help. I did try a restart and nothing had changed.
It may because I instilled some software. after that, everytime I open the "display properties"-->>"desktop",my computer will read "My pictures"folder, and trying to load all the pictures in the "Background" list.which are almost 2GB pictures.it is very slow, and my computer halted for a long time.
This isn't a problem as such.. it's just darned annoying. When I click the My Documents folder on my desktop, and open the My Pictures folder, it has the musical note background and no film strip facility.I know that the My Documents and My Pictures folders are deemed as System folders in XP and cannot be customized, but here's the thing.. If I open the explorer file tree and go to the Documents and Setting folder, and open the My Documents and My Pictures from inside it.
I do alot of image work so i have alot of images... when i go to save an image in the my pictures folder, it does not show up. so i think, i go into windows explorer to the my pictures folder and only some of them show up.
Customizing the New Menu. The New menu is a handy tool, but it gets even handier if you customize it by adding your own commands and by removing existing commands that you don't need. This is all possible through the Registry.Go to HKEY CLASSES ROOT and then open the .bmp subkey. This subkey includes a ShellNew subkey. The existence of ShellNew tells Windows to include this file type on the New menu. How Windows creates the new file is determined by extra settings (other than Default) in ShellNew. There are four different settings used:NullFile: When Windows sees this string setting, it creates an empty document of the associated file type. This is the method used by the Bitmap Image (.bmp) and Text Document (.txt) file types.File Name: The value of this string setting is always a filename. When Windows sees this setting, it looks in the WindowsShellNew folder for that filename, and then creates the new file by making a copy of the file that's in ShellNew. This method is used by the Wave Sound (.wav) and WordPad Document (.doc) file types. For the latter, the filename (winword.doc) Command: The value of this string setting is a command. When Windows sees this setting, it creates the new document by running the command. This is the method used by the Shortcut (.lnk) and Briefcase (.bfc) file types.Data: This setting is set to a binary value. When Windows sees this setting, it creates a new document of the associated file type and copies the binary value into the document.
I have no problems creating a slipstream for SP2 and running it but i would like to find a way to customize the install a little bit more. I have about 120 clients that i need to push XP pro Sp2 too. We are going to be using an SMS server to do this. I have pushed service packs in the past with this and it works like a charm however all previous service packs did not include the firewall client. Slipstream a new version of SP2 or use another medium to accomplish this that will create a sp2 install without user interaction and without the firewall client enabled.
When you click File, Open, in a Windows program like FrontPage, Word or Excel, you see 5 icons for My Recent Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer, and My Network places. Is there a way to customize the Look in pane and remove or add any locations here? I would like to add the My Webs folder to this pane.
IE7 has required 'customize your settings' at every bootup ever since I istalled it. I continue to get the following: http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx. I thought perhaps the problem might be fixed with this months release of revised IE7.
Right click an empty area of the desktop and choose properties. Select the "Desktop" tab and click "Customize Desktop".On the General Tab place a checkmark in the icons you wish to appear on the Desktop.

I have taken a series of pictures on different days and downloaded them into a folder in My Pictures. I need to put them in a sequence so I right clicked each picture and re-named it as follows: 001jpg, 002jpg and so on for 100 pictures. In view, I selected arrange icons by modified and all the pictures moved to the sequence I wanted. All is well and good until I copied the folder to a CD. All the pictures reverted to their original sequence instead of the sequence I put them in.
How can I copy the folder with the pictures in the sequence I put them in? Whenever I open the picture file to look at that folder, they are always in the sequnce I put them in
haXP Im looking for a way to re-create two folders, 1 my pictures, 2 my video. i have tried TweakUI, but that can only move a path. I tried repair (not Repair console) with XP SP2 CD, and ended up with a chose OS screen (which i found out can be avoided with msconfig.) but still regedit has a big whole where my pictues and my video should be. Ive both a SATA and an IDE drive, IDE is used as storage and SATA is partitioned and computer management say Extended partition, with boot on it and system is on the IDE one. Before it got messed up i had my documents on the ohter partition, which is how i want it.
I am using an old Dell with XP and Internet Explorer 7. When previewing some images I have stored in My Pictures, I find when using the 'previous' and 'next' buttons I am able to pull up the next or previous pictures as I should. But when I e-mail an image to myself and then use the 'next' or 'previous' buttons, I begin to get images from web sites I have recently visited even if it is just my home page. While scanning my home page, for instance, I collect dozens of images in a matter of minutes. The only change I have made recently is a download of info from a digital camera disc to enable me to store pictures from my new camera.
I did a system restore to a couple of days before that download but I'm still copying dots, dashes, logos and pictures or frames from videos.
I was just reading an old CNet subscriber letter about using wireless internet in hotels. Lots of people were talking about different ways to prevent your data being stolen, including an "evil twin". Well, a few people mentioned using firewalls. I used to use one a while ago (ZoneAlarm) and liked the way it worked, however, here's my question, how exactly does it protect the data that you SEND.I can understand that it would be protecting your computer from people who try to get onto your own computer, but I thought of it as somewhat like a brick wall, keeping those that you wanted out of your computer on the other side of the brick wall.Do firewalls protect the data that you send also? I was thinking of it being like (another goofy analogy, haha) lining a garden hose with steel tubing, so that way no one can come over and puncture the hose and steal your water from the hole. Can firewalls protect outgoing data, and not just incoming data and protect against incoming threats and attacks on your computer?
Every time I set a restore point then go back to use it it is gone not highlited nor do I have any restore points what so ever none notta.zippo.,.,What to do~??
