Using System Restore Point To Move My Documents Folder To Another Drive

I'm using Win XP Pro SP3. When my files in "My Documents" outgrew my hard drive's capacity a while back I bought a new hard drive and decided to move my "My Documents" onto the new F: drive, leaving everything else on the original hard drive. It seemed like the simplest solution to my problem at the time. The situation does create a few syntax problems revolving around the question "When is the 'My Documents' folder not really the 'My Documents' system folder?" Most of the time I don't have any problems with the arrangement, but there are a couple of anomalies. At present my command line environment variables do not have any easy way to point to "My Documents" because (for example) %userprofile%My Documents points to the folder on c: that used to be the 'My Documents' system folder rather than to the current location of the system folder.
That is not usually a big deal but it may be related to the more frequent problem. A few ill-behaved programs expect to find and store files in %userprofile%My Documents (which is on C: drive) rather than in the actual system folder "My Documents" on F: which makes it harder to find these files when I search for them. Just to 'simplify' the situation I thought about setting a reparse point in the old "My Documents" folder ( %userprofile%My Documents ) that points to the actual system folder (which is F:My Documents ) Tinkering with settings like this has potential to break things in unexpected ways so I thought I'd ask whether there are any obvious problems with the 'solution'. Or are there better ways to keep the user documents on a second hard drive?
I had a problem: "Remote Function Call" failed. Nothing helped, but restoring a Restore Point.After Restore Point My Documents folder tree also was changed. Folder names were renamed to their old names, and files were moved to their former places.I would like to know what exactly is saved when creating a Restore Point, and what exactly is restored by Restore Point.Why does Restore Point touch My Documents? Does it delete files?

I have a 3Ghz AMD with 1Gb RAM, 160Gb HDD, Win XP SP2 installed. The HDD is divided into 3 partitions - OS, Documents and Program. She has a network with her children's computers (4!) but whilst they can ping each other, they are not actually networked to each other.
I installed Nero 6. Burning and Cyberlink DVD on to her computer. Both were installed on the Program partition. At that point, all her documents and images were in the "My Documents" folder on the Documents partition and were all visible and working. Within the My Documents folder was a folder called "My Documents 1" which was all the stuff she had brought over from her old HDD but not yet sorted and merged with her current computer.
"My Documents folder" in the Documents partition had vanished,along with all her word, music and photo files.Webshot photos folder had also vanished. A search through Windows did not turn any of these up. I scanned the whole computer and found no trace of them. All the System Restore checkpoints for the last 5 days failed to restore the system to what it was prior to the installations. System Restore Incomplete - unable to finish or something to that effect. When I ran both the antivirus and spyware programs, the AVG run was clean but the spyware turned up 64 tracking cookies but no high level issues. (She felt running these programs daily chewed up too much time etc etc. Even when I told her to run all 5 computers at least once weekly (Boot up, start the scanning programs, get the updates and run them then leave them to do their scanning, walk away go do some shopping and check the results when you get back - too easy of course she did not do any backups which steps to take? Programs to use to try and recover her folders?
I have Windows XP. WHen I try to use "system restore", I keet getting a message that say that I cannot restore to the restore point I chose. I followed the instructions, and only choose restore points that are bolded.
It's clear that System Restore does not simply put down a given Registry of a Restore Point instead of one in existence. Before this System Restore examines for compatibility the coming Registry and established programmed. Sometimes System Restore adjusts them, makes some corrections and informs user about this. But in a complicate situation System Restore cannot make corrections and refuses to put Restore Point down.Where can I read about:
1) What does System Restore control specifically?
2) In which situation specifically does System Restore refuse to put Restore Point down?
3) Is it possible to exclude these testings from System Restore?
Whenever I try to create a restore point, Windows keeps telling me that it cant, saying "System Restore Is not able to create a restore point.Please restart the computer and run System restore again." I've done this and it doesn't work. I've also checked to see if the Service is running normally, and that is running perfect.
I'm using Windows XP Pro Home Edition (Service Pack 2) on an HP Pavilion a250y desktop. I have noticed recently that there are no system restore points on my computer. A check of the Event Viewer seems to indicate that my computer has unsuccessfully tried to create five system restore points in the past four days. If I right-click on any of the unsuccessful system restore attempts listed to view the error properties and then click on the hyper link associated with the error properties, I get a message indicating that System Restore will automatically restart if I manually create a restore point. However, when I try to do this, I get the message contained in the subject line. Does anyone know of a way to fix this problem?
When trying to create a restore point the following dialog box is produced.System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer, and then run System Restore again''. And yoy get the message again after rebooting. Also you cannot retore from a restore point, the calendar only shows the current month.
When I attempt to run System Restore to create a restore point I get the following error message:"System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer, and then try System Restore again." But restarting the computer does not solve the problem. Also, when I attempt to restore to an earlier date/time and click Next to confirm nothing happens.System Restore doesn't work in Safe Mode either. Tried to do a system restore today and apparently no restore points were available. I thought XP automatically creates restore points. Is there a setting somewhere that I have to change?

This is what i have tried out:Turned off all the system restore on all drives, restarted the computer and then turned back on, but to no avail. I tried to create a restore point from the safe mode but it shows only to "restore the computer back to an earlier time" and no option to create a restore point.
The partition C, where Windows XP is installed, became too small. Often XP crashes with the blue screen (BSOD). I already, successfully, moved the system folder "My Documents" to another hard drive, to give space, and changed the registry accordingly.
That was two years ago. Meanwhile, my space is again too small, somehow everything seems to grow on that partition. I need to give space again. I tried to copy the system folder "Documents and Settings" to another partition before making any registry change. But i cannot copy, XP reports an error saying that "NTUSER cannot be copied. The file is being used by another person or program". I also don't find any variable inside the registry pointing to that system folder.
I did not realise it but I had disabled my windows protection which automatically creates system restore points. Recently I managed to infect my OS with a rally of malware - one particularly nasty was Antimalware Doctor. I installed Avira for antivirus, comodo for firewall and spybot for additional protection (perhaps a little paranoid but I was kicking myself for being to lax up to that point). I try to avoid AV programmes, as nothing ever seems to work properly once they've been installed (see below) and they just interfere with every single application you try to install and messing with their function too.Avira and Comodo started messing with my HP printer/scanner/copier software - every time I booted a Windows Installer window popped up looking for the installation disc for a damaged image, and would not go away. I inserted the disk but it did not resolve the issue. So I deleted all the files, removed them from the registry and prepared to install it from scratch.
I went to do a system restore in hopes that I would be able to restore my computer to the last restore point that was made in August which was either Thursday or Friday. This was only a few days ago However, I couldn't restore my pc to any restore point cause it won't allow me to go back to the previous month My question is.Is there anyway to get the System Restore to go back to the previous month?
Hello, I currently have a problem with my system restore. It has been this way for as long as I can remember. It just doesn't work. I cannot create a system restore point, it does not allow me, it fails to make one every time I try. There are NO system restore points. I have tried turning off system restore, restarting and turning it back on....
I just tried to do a system restore using the built in windows tool. However, everytime I go to the screen, the area where the little calender that has all your restore points, is gone and blank. I have tried restarting; nothing. I have tried making a new restore point and it doesn't show up. Refer to the screen shot I took to describe what I mean.
I need to restore to an earlier version on my computer as im having problems with Alias Maya Software (whole different issue posted in Multimedia Section - please take a look) but when i go to restore to an earlier point this message comes up

I keep getting this message: "wmi has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of it including:1. System Restore to a previous point2. Stopped Windows Management Instrumentation service and set it to MANUAL star 3. Stopped Windows Performance Adapter service and set it to MANUAL start4. Searched registry for entries that could/should be deleted (didn't find the ones I expected to see.)5. General cleanups including Registry Mechanic detect and repair. Norton Antivirus scan. Microsoft AntiSpyware scan / repair. Spybot Search and destroy scan / fix. Spyware Blaster update and enable all protection.

Probably once a day my PC will shut off and then restart. I really need this PC to be reliable and stay up.I have tried a memory test to see if it was that and it came up ok. I was also told it could be to do with drivers for hardware.If anyone could give me some advice I would REALLY appreciate it.
If i was to install service pack 2, via the disc i have, and i dont like what it has done to my computer, will i be able to refer back to a System Restore Point i created before installation?
I seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
When I try to restore my computer no restore points are saved I have the system restore set to it's maximum capacity, there is plenty of space. I tried to create my own restore points and received message system restore is not able to create restore point please restart the computer and then run system restore again. I did and got same message again. I need to restore my computer to an earlier restore point.when i try to change the date it won't let me.I wanted to go to 10/4/05 but when i click on the number 4 it does not do anything.I am using windows xp home edition.
In documents and settings a folder has been named after the old manager of this shop. How can I change the name to something else? In this folder are .java, cookies, and desktop folders.
