I need to restore my computer to an earlier restore point.when i try to change the date it won't let me.I wanted to go to 10/4/05 but when i click on the number 4 it does not do anything.I am using windows xp home edition.
I receive the message "Cannot restore to an earlier restore point, no changes have been made to your computer." I checked the Forums and found a similar case where the recommended action was to try Tip #1795 on WorldStart.com.com. I tried this and it did not work.
I restored my computer to an earlier point, onlt a few days which was sucsessful but when the desktop came up, it told me that activeshield was missing which is my mcafee virus scan. I uptated off the website and it installed it but my question is,why was it removed in the first place?
I've been trying to restore my computer to an earlier restore point but I click on help and support and a window pops up that states "Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search. I've tried this but when I click on my search button the screen doesn't come up. The only thin that comes up is a square with a line in the middle of it.Did I erase something necessary? Also how can I reinstall Windows XP without a cd? I've made set up boot disks off the Microsoft website and I've tried to do this but nothing happens. Also when I click on the start button the first thing that is listed is programs and I know that before all these problems I had my computer and so other items listed then programs. My programs is also empty when I click on it.

Was having a problem with the computer, doing weird things so I thought that I might go back and do a restore from an earlier point to see if it solved the problem. Anyway, went to earlier point, restored sort of, after it did everything, it told me it could not restore to that point and that nothing was done. I went to another restore point further back, same message, was not installed at the restore point, current settings are intact. Did this 2 more times, same results. I have made restore points along with the ones the systme makes. None of them works.
I have Windows XP. WHen I try to use "system restore", I keet getting a message that say that I cannot restore to the restore point I chose. I followed the instructions, and only choose restore points that are bolded.
It's clear that System Restore does not simply put down a given Registry of a Restore Point instead of one in existence. Before this System Restore examines for compatibility the coming Registry and established programmed. Sometimes System Restore adjusts them, makes some corrections and informs user about this. But in a complicate situation System Restore cannot make corrections and refuses to put Restore Point down.Where can I read about:
1) What does System Restore control specifically?
2) In which situation specifically does System Restore refuse to put Restore Point down?
3) Is it possible to exclude these testings from System Restore?
Whenever I try to create a restore point, Windows keeps telling me that it cant, saying "System Restore Is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer and run System restore again." I've done this and it doesn't work. I've also checked to see if the Service is running normally, and that is running perfect.
I'm using Windows XP Pro Home Edition (Service Pack 2) on an HP Pavilion a250y desktop. I have noticed recently that there are no system restore points on my computer. A check of the Event Viewer seems to indicate that my computer has unsuccessfully tried to create five system restore points in the past four days. If I right-click on any of the unsuccessful system restore attempts listed to view the error properties and then click on the hyper link associated with the error properties, I get a message indicating that System Restore will automatically restart if I manually create a restore point. However, when I try to do this, I get the message contained in the subject line. Does anyone know of a way to fix this problem?
When trying to create a restore point the following dialog box is produced.System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer, and then run System Restore again''. And yoy get the message again after rebooting. Also you cannot retore from a restore point, the calendar only shows the current month.
When I attempt to run System Restore to create a restore point I get the following error message:"System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer, and then try System Restore again." But restarting the computer does not solve the problem. Also, when I attempt to restore to an earlier date/time and click Next to confirm nothing happens.System Restore doesn't work in Safe Mode either. I also tried Revert to time when last worked in the boot option menu.As far as I know these problems occurred after Oct. 10 (the last time I created a good Restore Point) and this morning when I attempted to create a restore Point.I have run currently updated AVG 7, S&D, Adaware, Ewido, and MS Anti-spyware and came up clean.
When I try to restore my computer no restore points are saved I have the system restore set to it's maximum capacity, there is plenty of space. I tried to create my own restore points and received message system restore is not able to create restore point please restart the computer and then run system restore again. I did and got same message again. Can someone please tell me how to rectify this problem. Was having trouble with screen saver which refused to start but have now disabled ehtray and screen saver is now working again.
Tried to do a system restore today and apparently no restore points were available. I thought XP automatically creates restore points. Is there a setting somewhere that I have to change?
I am trying to create a fresh system restore point. (Well all the previous restore points are already deleted).I type a name a restore name into the box and then this error message pops out.System restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart your computer, and then run System Restore again.I checked in my event viewer for system restore related errors(sr and srservice). It showed up errors in the following categories(4 errors in source sr) all with event id 1.The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000001' while processing the file '' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume. The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000034' while processing the file '_filelst.cfg' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume. The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000098' while processing the file '' on the volume 'HarddiskVolume1'. It has stopped monitoring the volume. The System Restore filter encountered the unexpected error '0xC0000098' while processing the file on the volume 'Hard disk Volume1'.It has stopped monitoring the volume. This is what i have tried out:Turned off all the system restore on all drives, restarted the computer and then turned back on, but to no avail. I tried to create a restore point from the safe mode but it shows only to "restore the computer back to an earlier time" and no option to create a restore point.
For the last 2 weeks my computer started making me log in. It says that i need to enter a password but I actually don't have to, and instead of having my user side and one for my editing where you have a picture up and you can switch between the two it will only let me go to the side that i use for internet and such. If I ask it to switch to other user it takes me to the login and back to the main users side. what is causing this and how do I correct it. I tried doing a restore and it says I can't restore back to that point. I tried 3 other points and it wouldn't reset to any of them
I did not realise it but I had disabled my windows protection which automatically creates system restore points. Recently I managed to infect my OS with a rally of malware - one particularly nasty was Antimalware Doctor. I installed Avira for antivirus, comodo for firewall and spybot for additional protection (perhaps a little paranoid but I was kicking myself for being to lax up to that point). I try to avoid AV programmes, as nothing ever seems to work properly once they've been installed (see below) and they just interfere with every single application you try to install and messing with their function too.Avira and Comodo started messing with my HP printer/scanner/copier software - every time I booted a Windows Installer window popped up looking for the installation disc for a damaged image, and would not go away. I inserted the disk but it did not resolve the issue. So I deleted all the files, removed them from the registry and prepared to install it from scratch.
I went to do a system restore in hopes that I would be able to restore my computer to the last restore point that was made in August which was either Thursday or Friday. This was only a few days ago However, I couldn't restore my pc to any restore point cause it won't allow me to go back to the previous month My question is.Is there anyway to get the System Restore to go back to the previous month?
S/Restore system when operated comes up with "Cannot restore your system to an earlier date" Have checked for all spyware and viruses (Nil) Have tried disabling the system and also making new restore dates to no avail. Every time I try to restore my laptop to an earlier date,it tells me I cant. All the dates I have tried are highlighted,so I think I should be able to.Running windows xp.
utilitiy that could help me to restore the system (WinXP Home) to an earlier time, app. bofore one hour. Accedentaly we deleted word documents from shared documents. When the documents are deleted from the shared documents in a network, they are immediately deleted, not sent to recycle bin. What utility can I use?!?
I downloaded a rar file (15 mb) and once I unpacked it on my desktop (it would show 0 mb when I tried the properties tab) it would not allow the contents of the folder to be seen nor to be delete it. The message I got was unable to delete the file and it is used by another program. I tried the following to delete the file to no avail however: 1. DOS commands 2. The Unlocker software 3. Tried to see what new files were created on that day (could not find anything suspicious) so I can delete them 4. Looked at the startup programs (could not find it there) 5. The restore at any earlier date feature of windows XP 7. Looked in the registry (could not find anything) 8. Tried to see what processes were running so I can terminated it but could not locate anything 9. Tried the Ultimate Troubleshooter software to locate any suspicious running processes 10. PC tools Spyware doctor with Antivirus and Threadfire, Eset antivirus (it could not scan the folder because it appears to be locked), Avir antivirus, Panta microscan and XoftspySE and I got no malware detection what-so-ever.
I've been havin trouble with my computer so I went to restore it and before it actually starts to restore it back to the date i choose,it doesn't do anything I click the date i wanted it to restore back to, click next, then it says the selected restore point blah blah blah,so i click next and it doesn't do anything It doesn't work for any of the dates.
How far back does system restore? How do you control how far back to keep restor points? I have been trying to fix a problem since February and want to go back to before then and my restore only goes back to April..I have not knowingly deleted any restore functions.
I seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
Every time I set a restore point then go back to use it it is gone not highlited nor do I have any restore points what so ever none notta.zippo.,.,What to do~??
