utilitiy that could help me to restore the system (WinXP Home) to an earlier time, app. bofore one hour. Accedentaly we deleted word documents from shared documents. When the documents are deleted from the shared documents in a network, they are immediately deleted, not sent to recycle bin. What utility can I use?!?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWas having a problem with the computer, doing weird things so I thought that I might go back and do a restore from an earlier point to see if it solved the problem. Anyway, went to earlier point, restored sort of, after it did everything, it told me it could not restore to that point and that nothing was done. I went to another restore point further back, same message, was not installed at the restore point, current settings are intact. Did this 2 more times, same results. I have made restore points along with the ones the systme makes. None of them works.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a rar file (15 mb) and once I unpacked it on my desktop (it would show 0 mb when I tried the properties tab) it would not allow the contents of the folder to be seen nor to be delete it. The message I got was unable to delete the file and it is used by another program. I tried the following to delete the file to no avail however: 1. DOS commands 2. The Unlocker software 3. Tried to see what new files were created on that day (could not find anything suspicious) so I can delete them 4. Looked at the startup programs (could not find it there) 5. The restore at any earlier date feature of windows XP 7. Looked in the registry (could not find anything) 8. Tried to see what processes were running so I can terminated it but could not locate anything 9. Tried the Ultimate Troubleshooter software to locate any suspicious running processes 10. PC tools Spyware doctor with Antivirus and Threadfire, Eset antivirus (it could not scan the folder because it appears to be locked), Avir antivirus, Panta microscan and XoftspySE and I got no malware detection what-so-ever.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an external hard drive that I have assigned it a permanent hard drive letter reference through Disk Management. I have set the System Restore tab in My Computer Properties tab to not moniter this external hard drive K. Problem is that every now and then when I plug in every now and then for backing up my files via Briefcase - this will activate the System Restore function on that hard drive. This usually happens when I have the hard drive plugged in when I either turn off or turn on my computer. I stopped having the hard drive plugged in to hopefully stop the stop the System Restore on that hard drive (and then re-checked the System Restore tab)

Is that possible? Is there a "correct" way to do it? Someone reccomendme either Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image, but Im not sure if itll help me. View 11 Replies View RelatedI had to do an reformat on my PC. Before the reformat, my PC read both my external hard drives no problem. Then after the reformat, it only would read one. When I would restart with both connected, it wouldn't budge from the welcome screen. After I would unplug the "questionable" one, it would then allow me to log in as usual. I think it could be a driver issue but I'm not totally sure because it does read it after a little while. I changed the USB cable, so for now, it is holding. Can anybody figure out what it might be?

I have already tried right clicking on drive c and selecting format but the message says windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.
So I closed all open programs that I could but still no luck. Then I tried the format from running the run command and typing format c:but I get this message format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format can run if this volume is dismounted first. All open handles to this volume would then be invalid. would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (y/n) so I type y for yes and hit enter then nothing
I upgraded my server, basically all I kept was the two hard drives from the old machine. The one hard drive is for the system files (~13GB) and the other is for storage, user files, etc (~160GB). I figured that then I reinstalled Windows 2000 Server on the System disk, I would just have to assign the other disk a drive letter and be on my way. Instead, in the disk management console, I get "Disk 1 [the 160GB) Dynamic Unreadable" I can revert to a basic disk, but it says I will lose all my information. It is imperative that the data on this disk be recovered.

I contacted Compaq and they immediately sent me a set of Backup Disks in case the 'System Restore' on the computer wasn't available for one reason or the other.I have yet to put them into the computer to see what they consist of. I am not experiencing any problems and I don't want to create any by doing something I am not sure of.I am just curious is this set of disks is what I would use if I had to reinstall WinXP Home?

1.The loptops battery to be changed. I dont know how many batteries are there. Any cmos battery there like any other pc. Pl advice. What would be the cost. and the model number . The hard disk requires replacement. I want to know the model numberor exact type of hard disk would be fit in. and the cost thereof.3. Windows xp home edition has been preloaded in the laptop. How to take a copy of the os and copy in the new hard disk. I have the serial number etc for the OS.
Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and i�ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.
