Jul 10, 2005Every time I try to restore my laptop to an earlier date,it tells me I
cant.All the dates I have tried are highlighted,so I think I should be able to.Running windows xp.

Restore Earlier Date Problem
Jan 6, 2009Any reasons why i cannot do a restore to an earlier date? i have tried two earlier restore points and both were unsuccessful.

Nov 9, 2007I downloaded a rar file (15 mb) and once I unpacked it on my desktop (it would show 0 mb when I tried the properties tab) it would not allow the contents of the folder to be seen nor to be delete it. The message I got was unable to delete the file and it is used by another program. I tried the following to delete the file to no avail however: 1. DOS commands 2. The Unlocker software 3. Tried to see what new files were created on that day (could not find anything suspicious) so I can delete them 4. Looked at the startup programs (could not find it there) 5. The restore at any earlier date feature of windows XP 7. Looked in the registry (could not find anything) 8. Tried to see what processes were running so I can terminated it but could not locate anything 9. Tried the Ultimate Troubleshooter software to locate any suspicious running processes 10. PC tools Spyware doctor with Antivirus and Threadfire, Eset antivirus (it could not scan the folder because it appears to be locked), Avir antivirus, Panta microscan and XoftspySE and I got no malware detection what-so-ever.

Sep 18, 2005Was having a problem with the computer, doing weird things so I thought that I might go back and do a restore from an earlier point to see if it solved the problem. Anyway, went to earlier point, restored sort of, after it did everything, it told me it could not restore to that point and that nothing was done. I went to another restore point further back, same message, was not installed at the restore point, current settings are intact. Did this 2 more times, same results. I have made restore points along with the ones the systme makes. None of them works.

I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Laptop Continuous Reboot - Restore?
May 10, 2008very quick question here. I was recently updating one of my laptops with drivers and wmp11 and things of that sort. I guess I made the mistake of installing a version of SP3 that was not final and now it keeps rebooting. It goes past the Windows boot screen and restarts itself. It is very frustrating. I have tried safe mode - same deal. I have no tried the last know good configuration - failed. I am almost 95 percent sure it was the SP3. My question is, is there a way to do something like a system restore or maybe even uninstall Sp3. Of course I can not even get into Windows

Jul 31, 2010In the last week or so, i've been unable to hibernate my computer.When i click the button to hibernate, the screen will go blue and say "Preparing to hibernate" as normal, but then it quickly flashes back to whatever i had before on the screen.
Strangely, i can still standby or shutdown the computer with no problem. And im not getting any error messages or anything about it.It just won't hibernate.So far, i've tried System restore to bring it back to an earlier date. But that didn't work.I tried restore it to another earlier date, and that failed (it wouldn't restore it. probably because there weren't any changes to be made. i don't know.)I also tried un-installing my virus software (McAfee) and then re-installing as i thought that may be the problem, but it didn't solve it.I also tried opening "Power Options" in the control panel. From there i unchecked "Enable hibernate" and restarted the computer. I then checked "Enable hibernate" and restarted again.

Nov 15, 2007Computers are 2 identical Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro.Dell #1 was given to me. It had never had ANY updates applied, had 56 Trojans and a bunch of other problems. I took it to the local library and used their WiFi connection to download Grisoft AVG, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Malware Removal to clean it up. I then was given an identical used Dell #2. it was at the SP2 level, so I again went to the library and updated this one with 85 XP updates.Then, as a learning experience, I restored XP Pro on Dell #1 from a Dell CD, P/N 1R594 and then installed SP2 on it. All went well.I then tried to use WiFi on Dell #1. I tried to create a new connection, but when I clicked on finish nothing got created.I looked at Dell #2 which has a working WiFi connection and noticed that when I click on All Programs I see an entry for Dell Wireless, containing 2 itemsDell Wireless WLAN card Readme and Dell Wireless WLAN card Utility This entry does not appear on Dell #1 even though I used it on a Wireless network prior to the XP PRO CD restore today.

Mar 26, 2008I recently partitioned my hard drive using Symantec Partition Magic. I installed Vista Ultimate on a separate partition. After installing, I would reboot and the normal dual boot menu would come up every time i booted my computer. But after realizing that I didn't like vista, I deleted the partition. I did not uninstall Vista, I just deleted the partition. Than I applied the newly unallocated space to the rest of my harddrive. But now when I boot, I still get the dual boot option. It tells me to pick Vista or an "Earlier Version of Windows".
