Cannot Restore Computer Back To A Later Date
Oct 23, 2006I can not restore my computer back to a later date. I am running windows xp sp2. I went to the restore point and it does not have a check mark in the box.

Computer Lagging Bad On Startup / Cannot Restore Back To That Date
Sep 14, 2006My computer was working like clockwork until I installed and then uninstalled a program( google earth). Now my computer takes at least 10 minutes, maybe longer to boot up to the point where I can actually use it. I have winxp home. I have tried disk cleanup, running norton, running spybot and adaware programs. I even tried to do a system restore but it keeps telling me no matter which date I choose that it cannot restore back to that date.

I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.

It says that i need to enter a password but I actually don't have to, and instead of having my user side and one for my editing where you have a picture up and you can switch between the two it will only let me go to the side that i use for internet and such. Nov 9, 2007I downloaded a rar file (15 mb) and once I unpacked it on my desktop (it would show 0 mb when I tried the properties tab) it would not allow the contents of the folder to be seen nor to be delete it. The message I got was unable to delete the file and it is used by another program. I tried the following to delete the file to no avail however: 1. DOS commands 2. The Unlocker software 3. Tried to see what new files were created on that day (could not find anything suspicious) so I can delete them 4. Looked at the startup programs (could not find it there) 5. The restore at any earlier date feature of windows XP 7. Looked in the registry (could not find anything) 8. Tried to see what processes were running so I can terminated it but could not locate anything 9. Tried the Ultimate Troubleshooter software to locate any suspicious running processes 10. PC tools Spyware doctor with Antivirus and Threadfire, Eset antivirus (it could not scan the folder because it appears to be locked), Avir antivirus, Panta microscan and XoftspySE and I got no malware detection what-so-ever.

Everything is running OK except that every time I switch on the computer and it boots up, it seems to forget the date and time. I go onto the control panel and reset the date and time and it managers to remember the date and time until I switch off the computer and reboot it. It is only a minor problem but is annoying tthat I have to keep resetting it.

May 3, 2010I am running a PC clone, Win XP SP3. It is using a wired connection to a router. Yesterday, out of no where, I lost connection to the internet. No browsers, Trillian, nothing that uses the internet works. I tried running a virus scan, malware scan and found nothing. I tried doing a system restore and it seemed to work, for a brief moment I had the internet again. Then, once more, it stopped working.
Right now, the current speculation is that the onboard network connection is dying. What I'm trying to find out, is if that is possible or not. I'm not worried about having to buy a card - they're cheap. I am worried about buying a new card and it not fixing the problem.Are there other things that can cause this to happen that I can/should look into first?
