My computer will not let me restore to a previous date. I downloaded IE-7 and I don't like it, but I read on this site that I can go back to IE-6 by uninstalling IE-7. Why can't I do a restore to say last week? It looks like it is restoring, but then stops.
View 3 RepliesI run windows XP and, after several years with no audio problems, I suddenly lost audio.I checked my sound settings and everything was fine. I tried to do a 'system restore' but the system restore does not work. It will not allow me to click on a previous date; when I tried "help" in 'SR', that did not work either.I've rebooted several times to no avail. Earlier in the day I had downloaded a new program called 'seekmore'...thinking that may be the problem, I uninstalled it, but the audio is still gone. I ran a Norton Scan... still no success.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working like clockwork until I installed and then uninstalled a program( google earth). Now my computer takes at least 10 minutes, maybe longer to boot up to the point where I can actually use it. I have winxp home. I have tried disk cleanup, running norton, running spybot and adaware programs. I even tried to do a system restore but it keeps telling me no matter which date I choose that it cannot restore back to that date.

I decided to get a printer that I had had before, Brother DCP-110C as I knew this had worked well. I tried to install yesterday (28th July) but could'nt and my PC keeps switching itself off near the end of the installation. I then thought I would use System restore to go back to a happier time when I had the first Brother printer. previous saved point wont let me to restore

The last several days I have been trying to use same and go back at least a month, but when I click on the arrow to to the left side of the restore box to go to the previous month it will not do same, nor will it go to the next month when I click on the right side arrow. I need to restore and see if it will correct a problem I am having with Links 2003

I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a rar file (15 mb) and once I unpacked it on my desktop (it would show 0 mb when I tried the properties tab) it would not allow the contents of the folder to be seen nor to be delete it. The message I got was unable to delete the file and it is used by another program. I tried the following to delete the file to no avail however: 1. DOS commands 2. The Unlocker software 3. Tried to see what new files were created on that day (could not find anything suspicious) so I can delete them 4. Looked at the startup programs (could not find it there) 5. The restore at any earlier date feature of windows XP 7. Looked in the registry (could not find anything) 8. Tried to see what processes were running so I can terminated it but could not locate anything 9. Tried the Ultimate Troubleshooter software to locate any suspicious running processes 10. PC tools Spyware doctor with Antivirus and Threadfire, Eset antivirus (it could not scan the folder because it appears to be locked), Avir antivirus, Panta microscan and XoftspySE and I got no malware detection what-so-ever.

The precise time when it stopped workign is not knwoen. He does not recall running any Windows updates etc., after that. It has a 64 bit 3000 processor.It is running at 1.81GHz and has 1.25 GB of RAM.The system is running on Windows XP including service pack 2. It is fitted with a 80 GB hard drive formatted to NTFS. Everything is running OK except that every time I switch on the computer and it boots up, it seems to forget the date and time. I go onto the control panel and reset the date and time and it managers to remember the date and time until I switch off the computer and reboot it. It is only a minor problem but is annoying tthat I have to keep resetting it.

I tried to double click the clock at the bottom right side of the computer screen but it does not respond. The time and date window will not pop up so i can reset it. The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.

Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search. I've tried this but when I click on my search button the screen doesn't come up. The only thin that comes up is a square with a line in the middle of it.Did I erase something necessary?Also how can I reinstall Windows XP without a cd? I've made set up boot disks off the Microsoft website and I've tried to do this but nothing happens.Also when I click on the start button the first thing that is listed is programs and I know that before all these problems I had my computer and so other items listed then programs. One of the many things that I do, since I can't reinstall but rather have to work with what comes on the machine, is eliminate all accounts but one administrators account which I typically name "owner." To keep these machines safe from mischievious children and other would-be "messer-upers" on the sales floor, I password protect the screen saver. This also provides an opportunity for the salesperson to get involved. Anyway, when the password window opens, it still has the former owners name�the registerer�in that window. Isn't there a line in the registry listing that name? Can this be edited in the registry.
