Transfer Laptop Files And Software B4 Restore

Jul 17, 2005

I want to use the restore CD's on my laptop, win2000, but I'd like to save both data files and installed software and drivers. Is it possible if I can transfer to an external hard drive? Or, can I only save the data files? How can I save the software and drivers?

Transfer Files From Old Laptop Into New Laptop

Aug 4, 2010

My laptop died and I removed the hard drive.I hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive. My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.

Unable To Transfer Files To Laptop: Getting Access Denied Message?

Oct 17, 2007

I have two computers, on one computer there is a irrepairable version of windows, and I still had some files I wanted to save. So I bought a hard drive enclosure so I could transfer the files onto my laptop, the one I'm using right now. However I used to have a password for my account, and my files were marked private. Now when I try to go into those files, it says 'Access Denied' I was wondering if there was anyway to go around this obstacle, those files are needed.

Remove It Onto A Flash Drive And Transfer To Laptop

Jan 5, 2008

I'm curious. Is it possible to take my current copy of XP that came with my computer, uninstall it / remove it onto a flash drive / cd (even transfer it to my laptop) and then use it on a new computer that I'm going to get? They are charging $80-100 for a copy of XP and this could significantly reduce my price. I would also need to know how to install it on this new computer if this is possible, which is unlikely.

Files Shared But Cannot Transfer

Jan 9, 2007

This problem started up after the last format of my computer. I have the usual folders shared on my computer which consists of my shared docs, music, DOD/CS:S maps and games. During LAN parties (or any other time) nobody can get files off my computer. They are shared just fine, they can see the files, but when we try to transfer it says "Cannot copy *filename* - access is denied. make sure the disk is not full or right protected and that the file is not currently in use." The file transfer bar will go like it is transferring, but when it is done I get that message. It doesn't make sense. I have these two boxes checked under "sharing" in folder properties: "share this folder on the network" and "allow network users to change my files." All firewalls are off. This happens over 4 different routers. I have reconfigured the network many times.

The only thing I can think of that may have caused it is that I deleted the microsoft .net asp account that is installed with microsoft .net framework. would that do it? I haven't had the energy to re-install that yet. I deleted it so I wouldn't have to select an account on startup. Anyway, if you have any input I would appreciate it because this is annoying. Update: And I have just determined that I can listen so some songs on media player over the network, but I can never transfer them between computers.

Transfer Files From DOS To Win With USB Flash Drive

Sep 14, 2010

I saved some old CAD drawings using DOS commands onto a USB memory stick, to be able to transfer the CAD files onto another computer running Win XP Pro SP3. The old DOS based CAD files on the USB memory stick were not recognized by Windows Explorer. When the old HD connected via USB to the Win XP computer happily allows files to be transferred. The memory stick has lots of files on it saved under Win XP and most of it not recognized on the DOS machine, but none of the directories created or files saved on the memory stick from the DOS machine are recognized by the Win XP machine.

Files And Settings Transfer Wizard

Nov 9, 2008

I've learned now heavily about the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I've also learned about the USMT, which I've not yet used in practice, but learned the basics of in the .inf version. Studying that was how I was able to learn this deep into the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Basically, the two have similar, but not exactly the same configuration. Now here I'll post the configuration for the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I took what I found already there, and was adding features to it. I didn't create this from scratch, and it would've been silly to, as it's a configuration file.My issue is that whenever I'm saving settings, anytime I tell it to save something from HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the registry, it does not work. I was needing to know if anyone knows why, so I can correct it please.

Files And Settings Transfer Wizard

I'm working on a computer running Win XP. We had previously installed a second, bigger hard drive, so she wouldnt lose any space on her c drive, which is only 9GB. Problem is, she's now down to about 147MB on the C drive, and we are afraid of a crash. Can I use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to move some of her programs to the bigger drive?? The new drive is 120 GB, and we want to just leave the operating system on the C drive, and move everything else. We have already run the disk cleanup wizard, emptied temp folders, and deleted unused programs (except for Quicken.it doesnt seem to want to uninstall.

Installing Operating System - Transfer Files

Jun 21, 2005

I’m having problems with my operating system. I want to install a fresh copy
of it. Can you tell me or show me step by step documentation as to how to
partition my drive (or refer me to documentation as to how to do so), install
a clean copy of WXP from my Dell OEM Windows XP SP1a CD into the new, empty
partition, update everything necessary on it (note, again, I received the WXP
SP2 CD from Microsoft by mail a few days ago), transfer any files from my current installed O.S. copy into this newly installed copy that I want to install, and then delete this current (then old, once I do this) copy of my O.S.? Are there any Microsoft documents about this? Would this be better than just reinstalling the O.S. over the one I currently have in my computer?

Files Wouldn't Transfer Over During Install - Freeze System

Jul 22, 2005

I took it home and attempted to install windows xp on it and in the process things got messed up. I started up the computer and logged in. Once in, I inserted the Windows XP install so as to upgrade it and the process started out fine. Well it got to the point where it said it needed to restart in order to contiinue with the process, which it did. It restarted and began copying files, and it tossed out a few error messages. They were: could not copy file: spra0410.dll & spra0411.dll I tried to write them all down but I couldn't catch the all. I do know however there were about six files, all similar to the ones above, that didn't copy. I'm not too sure what to do at this point because now the computer won't go to windows at all. It goes through the start up screen all the way to the point where it says "press any key to continue", but then just kind of freezes and won't go any further. I've tried pressing a button to go forward, also tried to boot in safe mode whic none of the F Keys or Del will take me to. I tried changing the Bios to Boot from CD first using the same XP CD. I'm not sure what else I can do to get this thing to open windows, even in safe mode, or system restore. Sorry for the novel, just trying to explain in depth.
