PC Reboots During Large File Transfer
May 27, 2007I am having trouble with my computer rebooting while trying to copy large files 700 MB from a CD to the hard drive.I had this problem about 6 months ago when I was copying files from my Tivo to my PC.I am trying to copy to the same hard drive now that was giving me trouble then. There is a different amount of free space now while experiencing the problem than there was when I had the problem 6 months ago. The hard drive is a secondary hard drive used for data storage.

Sep 19, 2009I have a WD 1TB hard drive installed as an extra drive to hold a large series of video files. When it was install I formatted it as NFTS. Now I have ssome folders that have become quited large in actual size (20+GB) and in number of files(800+).When the folders on this drive are accessed that have any size to them (2-6GB or more) the system hangs with a 'windows explorer has encountered a problem.' error. Sometimes I get the Dr. Watson debugging error. Is there a fix for this? The event log states an explorer.exe error. The error as perviously stated states a 'windows explorer problem' not an Internet explorer error.

I would delete some of these, (some I need) but I can't stay in the folder long enough to access the actual file or files themselves before the system hangs. I can play the files in media player
Certain Large .pst Files From Outlook Were Not Def-rag
Aug 24, 2005when using Defragment (programs-accessories-system tools-defragment) in Windows XP, after defragmenting C drive, report shows that certain large .pst files from Outlook were not defrag.this is unfortunate since these are the "gummiest" files on my computer. is there any way to defrag these files safely? perhaps and update to defrag program which will enable this? or a workaround? or a third party program which will defrag these files? a way to defrag .pst files within Outlook?

Dec 16, 2005The same folder, and its properties window. The next is everything inside plus its properties windows, theres a huge difference. And it's a like 7 Gigabytes difference."super hidden folder" in directly on my C: drive. It was a limewire folder. I had to put C:/uploads just to get into it. I don't know the name of this super hidden folder so I can't just do that. Any help? And if you notice it says that the Tim Atkinson Folder contains 15,738 files in 651 folders and when I go in that folder and select EVERYTHING I get 2,017 files in 650 folders. Theres a folder with a lot of files missing.

Jan 9, 2007This problem started up after the last format of my computer. I have the usual folders shared on my computer which consists of my shared docs, music, DOD/CS:S maps and games. During LAN parties (or any other time) nobody can get files off my computer. They are shared just fine, they can see the files, but when we try to transfer it says "Cannot copy *filename* - access is denied. make sure the disk is not full or right protected and that the file is not currently in use." The file transfer bar will go like it is transferring, but when it is done I get that message. It doesn't make sense. I have these two boxes checked under "sharing" in folder properties: "share this folder on the network" and "allow network users to change my files." All firewalls are off. This happens over 4 different routers. I have reconfigured the network many times.
The only thing I can think of that may have caused it is that I deleted the microsoft .net asp account that is installed with microsoft .net framework. would that do it? I haven't had the energy to re-install that yet. I deleted it so I wouldn't have to select an account on startup. Anyway, if you have any input I would appreciate it because this is annoying. Update: And I have just determined that I can listen so some songs on media player over the network, but I can never transfer them between computers.

Sep 14, 2010I saved some old CAD drawings using DOS commands onto a USB memory stick, to be able to transfer the CAD files onto another computer running Win XP Pro SP3. The old DOS based CAD files on the USB memory stick were not recognized by Windows Explorer. When the old HD connected via USB to the Win XP computer happily allows files to be transferred. The memory stick has lots of files on it saved under Win XP and most of it not recognized on the DOS machine, but none of the directories created or files saved on the memory stick from the DOS machine are recognized by the Win XP machine.

Basically, the two have similar, but not exactly the same configuration.Now here I'll post the configuration for the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I took what I found already there, and was adding features to it. I didn't create this from scratch, and it would've been silly to, as it's a configuration file.My issue is that whenever I'm saving settings, anytime I tell it to save something from HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the registry, it does not work. I was needing to know if anyone knows why, so I can correct it please.

Problem is, she's now down to about 147MB on the C drive, and we are afraid of a crash. Can I use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to move some of her programs to the bigger drive?? The new drive is 120 GB, and we want to just leave the operating system on the C drive, and move everything else. We have already run the disk cleanup wizard, emptied temp folders, and deleted unused programs (except for Quicken.it doesnt seem to want to uninstall.
