Every time I download a large RAR (more than 700 MB), it won't extract properly, and will say there's been a CRC error of sorts. What does that mean?This has been happening to every large file I download, from multiple sources.
View 9 RepliesI have a WD 1TB hard drive installed as an extra drive to hold a large series of video files. When it was install I formatted it as NFTS. Now I have ssome folders that have become quited large in actual size (20+GB) and in number of files(800+).When the folders on this drive are accessed that have any size to them (2-6GB or more) the system hangs with a 'windows explorer has encountered a problem.' error. Sometimes I get the Dr. Watson debugging error. Is there a fix for this? The event log states an explorer.exe error. The error as perviously stated states a 'windows explorer problem' not an Internet explorer error.

I would delete some of these, (some I need) but I can't stay in the folder long enough to access the actual file or files themselves before the system hangs. I can play the files in media player
when using Defragment (programs-accessories-system tools-defragment) in Windows XP, after defragmenting C drive, report shows that certain large .pst files from Outlook were not defrag.this is unfortunate since these are the "gummiest" files on my computer. is there any way to defrag these files safely? perhaps and update to defrag program which will enable this? or a workaround? or a third party program which will defrag these files? a way to defrag .pst files within Outlook?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had a long long running windows explorer issue in which i get very frequent crashes of windows explorer when doing any of the following... opening folders, copying files, opening trash, empty trash, search, multiple tasks of any kind with folders - all cause a system freeze which can only be resolved by ending the explorer.exe task and then running a fresh explorer.exe.Can i re-install explorer and its components to ensure its stability ? also should windows explorer be rock solid ? Maybe this is a windows pro issue ?

And it's a like 7 Gigabytes difference."super hidden folder" in directly on my C: drive. It was a limewire folder. I had to put C:/uploads just to get into it. I don't know the name of this super hidden folder so I can't just do that. Any help? And if you notice it says that the Tim Atkinson Folder contains 15,738 files in 651 folders and when I go in that folder and select EVERYTHING I get 2,017 files in 650 folders. Theres a folder with a lot of files missing.

They contain 3 very large 3-4gb files that were working right before I tried to organize them and move them to a different directory (cut and paste). I've tried disabling the simple file sharing and gaining access to them again, but it won't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an IDE drive housed in an external USB enclosure. When I connect it to my XP Pro (SP2) desktop it is recognised, and I can browse the folders and files. However when I try to copy a large number of files from the drive to a local hard drive on the desktop I get a "resource no longer available" error, and the external drive is no longer visible to the PC. I can then disconnect and reconnect the drive but only get back into the same loop.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi had to system restore and when i came back all my files where gone but i still ahd the same hard disk space left and then i ran my diskk defragmentor and i found some files that i had that are now fragmented and still takeing up large parts of my memory here is what the Analysis report for the defragmentor said and when i go in to USERDATA to try delte some files it says USERDATA is not assable ,acces is denied and i tryed goin in it on safe mode and im administator on my computer so idk y it wont let me in plase help i only got 4% disk space left and when i click run dick defragmentor it says i need 15% space to run efectively sould i still run it and c what happens?

To maintain system stability, windowns must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD now."
& when ever I boot it from window xp CD it does not appear but it always does when I boot it from hard disk. How to removce this error without formatting the hard disk and without reinstalling win xp.
& What are the steps that one should follow if he wants to Format the C drive knowning that it has Windows ?
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to storing large folders/files on the desktop instead of on drive "C"?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Win XP pro onto a brand new hard drive. I'm able to fully format it to NTFS without any problem. Once the format is complete, it then begins to copy over all the Windows system files from the disk to drive. It gets between 70-80% complete when it starts to encounter errors copying files over.
I've used two seperate rom drives as well as 3 different installation disks and I get the same error at the same point in time after every attempt.
I have a problem with getting some pretty important files off a hard drive. They are pictures, but as soon as I try to open or copy, i get CRC errors, or other data problems. I have ran CHKDSK & f without any luck. Does anybody know of any other software
View 2 Replies View RelatedI frequently get a blue screen when using my computer, often when playing a high memory game (specifically WoW) and running other programs such as ventrilo. Occasionally, it says kernal memory dump...etc. But usually its just a blank blue screen. When I load windows, pressing delete does not enter me into setup mode, and my windows CD will not load up on restart either. I tried to uninstall my hard drive driver, and it worked, and it seems to have reloaded on restart I thought it might be corrupt but now whenever I go into device manager, it asks me if I want to restart to enable these changes, even though I havent changed everything.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup. A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem.This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.

i kep getting these darn UNEXPECTED ERROR. I've had an HP Pavilion a600n computer for about 3 years now, no problems till now. Earlier today though, it randomly reset itself and stopped working. So I rebooted and started getting constant beeping noises (they last 2-3 seconds) every 5 seconds or so. And it's not just a couple of beeps, it just keeps beeping non-stop.
I read up on the issue, was told to unplug all the wires, hold the power button for 1-2 mins and then replug everything in and try, but I get the same damn beeping noises!
I've heard that the # of beeps and frequency can help you determine the problem (something about BIOS? I dunno, not really a computer nerd) but the problem is, the beeps never stop so I can't really count I guess?
Other information (dunno if it's relevant)...
- The LED button on the PC remains green constantly.
- The fan of the PC works perfectly fine...
Ideas?
Constant updates every shutdown....for the last few weeks. Always update one of one.
This started since I started overclocking my graphics card. I thought might be it but a new symptom occured.First, it started freezing and crashing randomly and I thought it would pass if I stopped overclocking. I took out my graphics card and hoped it would stop.It got worse. What happened was I tried to turn on my computer and it crashed while starting up everytime. I had a bunch of recovery discs so I used them because they worked everytime in the past. Bad idea. I started the recovery process and as soon as it started, my computer crashed. I turned my comp back on but it said there was no OS installed. I tried reformatting and my computer crashed in the middle of that too.At this point I'm really pissed at my computer. I can't reformat. I can't recover. I can't even start up my computer up to the desktop.

Sometimes i will get an hour or two without the bubble coming up.. but usually it pops up bout every 2-5 seconds.. As you could probably guess this is interferring with how my computer is operating.. It freezes up alot but it will resume after the freeze.If i restart sometimes that will help a little by cutting down how many times the bubble comes up.. I dont have anything plugged into the USBs But i do have a modem connected by ethernet.The error bubbles say USB device unrecognized after clicking on it it shows one unknown device. I have tried powering down and shutting off the power strip. And unistalling all devices and rebooting.

One of our end users emailed us and stated that he keeps getting windows errors and then of course XP prepares a Error Report to send to Microsoft .I have done an extensive search about the problem on the internet and find this issue a lot. I have just never seen a successful resolution. Some say it is video driver issues, some say spyware. I am not going to sit and guess as what it is. Every time when i enable explorer.exe (via the run command in the Task Manager), the same thing occurs, five seconds working, after that it disappears. By the way, i am running Windows XP.Now, i am afraid a virus is on this computer, but sadly i cannot open BitDefender, since it is "expired" and i don't know what else to do.

Once this program is uninstalled, the shortcut may now point to a font file that no longer exists. Windows XP in turn reacts by turning all unspecified fonts into italics upon next reboot.The simple way to fix this is to delete all shortcuts in the font folder and replace them with the actual font file. you can also double check the path of each font and look for any suspicious paths.
