IE7 has required 'customize your settings' at every bootup ever since I istalled it. I continue to get the following: http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx. I thought perhaps the problem might be fixed with this months release of revised IE7.
View 6 RepliesI wrk for a company that has a server with Windows 2003. There are multiple 2000 and XP users who map drives from the server. Now here is where the problem begins. 2000 has no problms at all mapping drives. XP however has an issue with one folder. No matter what letter you pick, when you map the drive you get an error message "Setup requires a different version of windows. Check to make sure you are running setup on the Windows platform for which it is intended. Error 102" First of all im not running any type of setup. Im merely mapping a drive. This error occurs regardless of what drive letter you pick. And the really weird part, is once mapped the drive will open in Explorer or any other mode EXCEPT through My Computer and double clicking on the drive. If you right click the drive and hit open or explore, both will open the drive just fine. You double click and you get the error. When you right click the drive you also get an "autoplay" feature which makes no sense being its a folder on the server.
It acts like it has lost its association. Like if a JPG file is associated with nothing it wont open, but if you tell it to open with paint then it will. Its really weird and after weeks of searching i have found not a single similar problem to this one i can relate or get help from. It just plain makes no sense. I am going to unshare and reshare the folder when everyone leaves and see if that helps, but it works fine in 2000 currently and not in XP just in my computer.
In the past, I have used the S-video port (with RCA adapter) in a dual view setup with my TV. I recently reinstalled Windows XP and now I can't get the secondary display (the TV) to work correctly. I just get a bunch of black & white lines moving up the screen (looks like bad reception/static on a TV). The weird thing is that the TV displays everything fine during the bootup process, including the loading screen with the Windows XP logo. Full color and everything. It's when Windows actually starts that the TV freaks out. Another weird thing is if I use nVidia's TV setup Wizard and select "Span," the image on the TV actually stabilizes. But I am forced to keep a low resolution on the monitor (which wasn't the case before I reinstalled XP), and as soon as I make any other changes the TV goes back to freaking out.

Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? View 9 Replies View RelatedI have no problems creating a slipstream for SP2 and running it but i would like to find a way to customize the install a little bit more. I have about 120 clients that i need to push XP pro Sp2 too. We are going to be using an SMS server to do this. I have pushed service packs in the past with this and it works like a charm however all previous service packs did not include the firewall client. Slipstream a new version of SP2 or use another medium to accomplish this that will create a sp2 install without user interaction and without the firewall client enabled.

Some folders do not include this option. As well, under windows xp will not allow me to change the icon of the default folder type. i know there are various applications such as iconpackager that go in a do it for you , however is there a way to manually change the folder icons for folders such as "program files", "my music", etc ?

I can copy the same folder to the desktop and customize the icon.My old machine running Windows XP Pro allowed customization of Favorites Folders and this machine seems to allow me to do it, but when I am done the manilla folder icon still remains stubbornly there. Folder seems to be read only. Windows Firewall is turned off. Web root Spy Sweeper is off, though I think new version runs a process no matter what.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI?ve had this problem for a long time it started when my HD die on me (RIP) I think it was at the beginning of the year. I turned my slave into the master. I installed xp on it and it was all good. I don?t know when but a problem started, what happened is folders like C: and My documents and other non customize the folder would change to a music folder and I would only be about to sort the folder out my artist e.g. My doc might become a picture folder type and I can sort the folder out by when the picture was taken which is point less. I also found that the more folder type I choose e.g. music folder type that a folder like C: might change to that type.

This means I can't start the machine and walk away and have it up when I return. There is no password and a simple Enter is accepted. Anyone out there know if there is a way to make the old Q Basic program work with WIN 2K. If I have been informed correctly I believe Q Basic requires DOS to operate, and I have also been told WIN 2K does not have DOS capabilities.Is this correct?

View 13 Replies View Relatedcomputer is set to go into standby mode when I shut the lid, but lately when I reopen it (usually 10-15 minutes later) I just get a black screen and have to reboot. The only thing I can think of that may have caused this is changing my hardware acceleration. I was having problems with Microsoft Streets and Trips and their GPS and they told me to turn HA down. Not sure if this is the direct cause.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis computer is an HP/2.8ghz/512ram/service pack 3 system. It use to run nice, now it boot's slow, slow, slow! It takes 10 minutes to get all the icons loaded, then it works ok. In addition to the slow boot, it also hangs at a black screen, I get around it by pressing F1, then it loads ok. Safe mode loads normally about 2 min.

View 17 Replies View RelatedOn our other machine we have a 70 GB hard drive. It is partioned C: 20 GB and D: 50. All the program files are on C. When I try to defrag C I get the message "Volume C has only 4% free space available for use by Disk Defragmenter...it requires at least 15%". I uninstalled some inessential programs and got it up to 9%. In my wifes user account there is one folder My Pictures with 2.9GB. Can I move that onto the D partion to create the needed space?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI was going to post this on the software forum, but since there seems to be no problem with the software (WinZip) I decided to place it in here.Everytime I attempt to open my 'Unzipped' folder in My Documents (the folder every file extracted from Zip files [using WinZip] goes to on my computer) it asks me to format my C: drive. I tried to format it, and I got this error: Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or any other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of this drive. Then try formatting again.I closed all my open windows and such and tried again. I still get the same error. I really don't want to format my disks to get into the Unzipped folder (which would be pointless anyway, since formatting erases all your files, and those are what I'm trying to get back) and nothing else seems to be working.
On mouseover Windows tells me the folder is empty, and when I view its properties it's 'read-only', no matter how many times I try and keep it from being so. I've tried deleting the folder (always getting the message that the directory is NOT empty), moving the folder into another folder, and uninstalling WinZip. NONE of this works, and I really want my files back. Is there any way you can help?
Yeah I have reformatted my hard drives a few times over the years so I am no stranger to it however I am just curious about something. When I go to reformat with my DELL Windows XP Home Edition CD I will then revert back to SP1. I have SP3 installed onto my computer right now. I also have a SP2 CD I got from Microsoft about 3 years ago or so. Should I first install the SP2 cd or is there no need to do that seeing SP3 should have all of SP2 updates in it?

It gives her the following error.applet(s) in this HTML page requires a version of java different from the one the browser is currently using in order to run the apple(s) in this HTML page, a new browser session is I had her click ok to start a new session and still a don't work. I check her java version and it is up to date. I then had her clear her temp file and cookies. Still won't work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine.However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work.Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.
I started an upgrade for xp pro part way through the install I got a message "WatchDriverSigningPolicy.exe" no found I pressed enter then got another message "fake setup call himself instead original "setup.exe" ; setup abort!" now each time I reboot it starts to load xp then gives me the same message then press enter it then reboots.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI mistakenly launched XP Setup and want to know how to stop it from progressing further. I have another XP installed on another virtual disk. Rebooting from there allowed me delete the Setup files. Or so I thought ! The main XP installation however continues to try to launch Setup. Just about whatever I do, it ends in tears. My question is how do I stop XP on this disk from thinking it has to launch Setup? I dont want to reinstall XP, as that will involve a huge amount of work to recreate my environment.
