View 13 RepliesI have a friend that I am trying to help and I am stumped. Her sister downloaded a program and every since then she can't access pogo.com. It gives her the following error.applet(s) in this HTML page requires a version of java different from the one the browser is currently using in order to run the apple(s) in this HTML page, a new browser session is I had her click ok to start a new session and still a don't work. I check her java version and it is up to date. I then had her clear her temp file and cookies. Still won't work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer is working fine other than the browser (IE6). It takes about 2 minutes to open a page. Once opened it works fine. My home page is google, I can see the page right away but it's frozen. It stays that way for about 2 minutes then it works fine. No other problems arise until it tries to open a new page. Then the same thing happens again. I emptied all the offline and temp Internet files. Also emptied cookies and history. Ran spybot and adaware but it had no effect.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to help a neighbor with his PC. Last night he started having a problem (just all of a sudden out-of-the-blue) with no apparent reason or self-inflicted cause. He said he had not done anything unusual on his PC, and had only replied to a few emails over the last couple of days from family members (which did not have any attachments). He is using IE7. Here is what happens: When he opens a browser page (his home page is the Charter Communication News home page for customers), as soon as it finishes downloading (within 2 seconds) the browser page just disappears...as if it was exited. All other aspects of his PC works fine.
Here is what I did: I ran his three virus protections (AVG, McAfee & Nortons) as well as Ad-Adware, which only found low risk items that were deleted. I cleaned up his files, cookies, etc. and defragmented his hard drive. After re-starting the PC the browser page stayed up a little longer (maybe 4-5 seconds)...probably because I had deleted the cookies and it just took longer to fully download......
I'm having an issue I just can not understand. When I have two IE browsers open, I sometimes get the "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error on the second brower. When I try to go to the same page as the working browser I get the samel thing. It's like the second browser is not connectted to the internet.After shutting down both browsers several times and even rebooting sometimes, it will eventually work fine.

Firefox, I have tried setting it as my default browser in the settings option, and in "Set programs access and defaults". It works quite well... But can I get MSN Messenger to open up in that browser? When I click on my e-mails or MSN Space Etc. It opens up in Internet Explorer. Is there ANY way to open it in my default browser?

When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens.When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wiped my disc and reinstalled XP Pro. I can get on but it is irritating that the system pauses until I hit an Enter before it loads. This means I can't start the machine and walk away and have it up when I return. There is no password and a simple Enter is accepted. How can I get the system to come up without requiring this interaction on my part?
Anyone out there know if there is a way to make the old Q Basic program work with WIN 2K. If I have been informed correctly I believe Q Basic requires DOS to operate, and I have also been told WIN 2K does not have DOS capabilities.Is this correct?

Are there refurbished ones that would work? Is changing out a keyboard a hard thing to do? Will a generic keyboard work or would it have to be a Dell?

View 5 Replies View Relatedcomputer is set to go into standby mode when I shut the lid, but lately when I reopen it (usually 10-15 minutes later) I just get a black screen and have to reboot. The only thing I can think of that may have caused this is changing my hardware acceleration. I was having problems with Microsoft Streets and Trips and their GPS and they told me to turn HA down. Not sure if this is the direct cause.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis computer is an HP/2.8ghz/512ram/service pack 3 system. It use to run nice, now it boot's slow, slow, slow! It takes 10 minutes to get all the icons loaded, then it works ok. In addition to the slow boot, it also hangs at a black screen, I get around it by pressing F1, then it loads ok. Safe mode loads normally about 2 min.

Hitting restart, did nothing (in the program dialog) so I manually rebooted.Since then, I've tried to install Kaspersky, and Nero, and both tell me "A previous program requires a system reboot, please reboot". View 17 Replies View RelatedOn our other machine we have a 70 GB hard drive. It is partioned C: 20 GB and D: 50. All the program files are on C. When I try to defrag C I get the message "Volume C has only 4% free space available for use by Disk Defragmenter...it requires at least 15%". I uninstalled some inessential programs and got it up to 9%. In my wifes user account there is one folder My Pictures with 2.9GB. Can I move that onto the D partion to create the needed space?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI was going to post this on the software forum, but since there seems to be no problem with the software (WinZip) I decided to place it in here.Everytime I attempt to open my 'Unzipped' folder in My Documents (the folder every file extracted from Zip files [using WinZip] goes to on my computer) it asks me to format my C: drive. I tried to format it, and I got this error: Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or any other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of this drive. Then try formatting again.I closed all my open windows and such and tried again. I still get the same error. I really don't want to format my disks to get into the Unzipped folder (which would be pointless anyway, since formatting erases all your files, and those are what I'm trying to get back) and nothing else seems to be working.
On mouseover Windows tells me the folder is empty, and when I view its properties it's 'read-only', no matter how many times I try and keep it from being so. I've tried deleting the folder (always getting the message that the directory is NOT empty), moving the folder into another folder, and uninstalling WinZip. NONE of this works, and I really want my files back. Is there any way you can help?
Yeah I have reformatted my hard drives a few times over the years so I am no stranger to it however I am just curious about something. When I go to reformat with my DELL Windows XP Home Edition CD I will then revert back to SP1. I have SP3 installed onto my computer right now. I also have a SP2 CD I got from Microsoft about 3 years ago or so. Should I first install the SP2 cd or is there no need to do that seeing SP3 should have all of SP2 updates in it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI wrk for a company that has a server with Windows 2003. There are multiple 2000 and XP users who map drives from the server. Now here is where the problem begins. 2000 has no problms at all mapping drives. XP however has an issue with one folder. No matter what letter you pick, when you map the drive you get an error message "Setup requires a different version of windows. Check to make sure you are running setup on the Windows platform for which it is intended. Error 102" First of all im not running any type of setup. Im merely mapping a drive. This error occurs regardless of what drive letter you pick. And the really weird part, is once mapped the drive will open in Explorer or any other mode EXCEPT through My Computer and double clicking on the drive. If you right click the drive and hit open or explore, both will open the drive just fine. You double click and you get the error. When you right click the drive you also get an "autoplay" feature which makes no sense being its a folder on the server.
It acts like it has lost its association. Like if a JPG file is associated with nothing it wont open, but if you tell it to open with paint then it will. Its really weird and after weeks of searching i have found not a single similar problem to this one i can relate or get help from. It just plain makes no sense. I am going to unshare and reshare the folder when everyone leaves and see if that helps, but it works fine in 2000 currently and not in XP just in my computer.
I would like to set up a windows 2000 server or 2003 server with levels of permissions on file and printer sharing for the assigned users.

When I try to send a multi-page fax from WORD or Power-Point, only the first page or slide appears in the FAX. This is a recently developed problem. I've successfully sent multi-page FAXes in the past.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI often right click in IE and select Create Shortcut.It puts a shortcut and my desktop to that page. This mysteriously stopped working. The icon appears on my desktop with the page title and all, but when I double click it, it just opens up my browser and loads about:blank.In the shortcut file's properties, and then gives me the file's size, location,etc.but it doesn't list the URL anywhere. It's just getting on my nerves having to copy a page's URL to a text file on my desktop if I want to remind myself of something.
