Cant Able To Run Virus Scanner, Open Microsoft Sites In Any Browser
Jan 4, 2006
when the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client, not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files.
I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode. The same thing is repeated for other processes like error reporting etc. I am booting in normal mode only but its showing cant run in safe mode.

when out of no where, I received those weird progams on my PC which are those fake Virus scanners and such. i then deleted it from the source, and ran my Nortan scan and my spysweeper, and they found nothing wrong with my pc. Now, the PC will NOT let me go to "important" sites. For example, Bank of America, Paypal, anti-virus sites, Ebay, etc. But will let me go to sites like Myspace or forums. I had my favs on my toolbar as tiles so its easier to access them, i had about 10 of them, and now only 5 remain after the whole thing happened, and the 5 that were removed were "important" sites. Almost every thing on my tool bar was removed, including File, Edit, View, Tools, and such. My search engine is still displayed though.
I'm really clueless as to my next, step possibly a re-install of windows, i have a laptop and another PC both networked to my PC using crossover cables. 2 network cards in my computer bridged and ICS shared over the bridge. Both can access the internet with no problems using internet explorer, MSN etc. open web pages using Internet Explorer or Firefox sign into msn has once or twice since this problem started I have scanned with ad-aware and norton 2007 both up to date, found some things and fixed them but still not working.
I upgraded the Grisoft AVG 7.5 Anti Virus program. Some sites I cannot log on to at all. Some sites , like this one, I can log on but it won't remember me & I have to log in again. I am constantly getting the Security Alert banner on the screen. The one about the certificates. I tried going to the Elder Geek for IE repair but it said I need the Service pak CD and I don't have that.
Is there any way to have a default Browser? I want every program that has links to open up in say. Firefox, I have tried setting it as my default browser in the settings option, and in "Set programs access and defaults". It works quite well... But can I get MSN Messenger to open up in that browser? When I click on my e-mails or MSN Space Etc. It opens up in Internet Explorer. Is there ANY way to open it in my default browser?
I'm having problems getting my wizard to come up when I use my card reader or if I put in a cd. I use to get the options in a box to read files, play , or to transfer photos. Now I don't get that option. I think it may be a file missing in my regestry.
I was firefox which i find SO much better then IE. I was kept IE just in case but set firefox as my default browser. However when i select links like windows update and many other 'Microsoft' links it always uses IE. Is there a way to force it to use firefox unless IE is manually opened?
when I transfer my digital images from my camera to my PC (XP Serv.. pack 2) I use the built in transfer program which appears to be titled Microsoft Scanner and Camera wizard. It worked well for awhile. Is there a program setup key where I can check settings for the software? I used to be able to simply type in new file name and it would put the new folder in "My Picture folder" not anymore, have to a lot manually. The pgm also seems to reproduce the pics each time I click a photo change it etc, and I end up with up to 10x the number of pics all duplicates!. this is hard to explain to a fairly new user with digital cameras.
My AVG c scanner says that it has identified TrojanhorseGeneric9.SBP 8ACFY virus. on several days in November. It says its in the virus vault. I do not understand whether my computer is at risk or is it as simple as emptying the virus vault ?
I cant get to Microsoft.com in any browser because of that i cant update windows i only have SP2 and i need SP3 im using windows xp please help me everything says go to a cached version of it and i cant get any downloads.
My browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.
I have a need for transfering file sizes that exceed most ISP limitations. These transfers would be between 4-5 individuals to start. I am considering the FTP protocol. Can anyone recommend good host sites (I am looking at GoDaddy.com and a couple of others) plus what is a good program to prepare and send/receive these files? Another problems is the amount of spam/virus filters now being put in place almost everywhere. Our tranfers will xontain some .exe files and that causes most of these filters to declare them a virus or at least suspicious.
I cannot open (never ever could) ANY .TK in IE or FF. I used to be able to access all those listed but the .tk, until a few days ago those meetthe1337 sites and ALL bitedesigns stopped loading. please help! i moderate those meetthe1337 forums and really need to be able to access them!
Some of Microsoft applications(Media Player, Visual Studio, Office) and internet browser Firefox had changed their background color from white to gray. How can I fix it?
Having major problems with my Laptop. Sometimes unable to open a window, redirected to unknown sites, inundated with pop-ups, unable to uninstall Microsoft Office 2003. Now I am unable to use my wireless connection.
When I open up the Wizard and click "next", it goes to the "options" screen, but when I click on "custom setup" or "next" (again) I get an error message that says "Error: An error occurred while setting scanner preferences. If the scanner is being used [which it isn't], wait for it to complete the task, and then try again."I'm using a Dell Dimension E510 with a Dell AIO 942.Please help, if at all possible. I've downloaded some file recovery programs, but have since removed them. I don't know what else could be interfering here.
what ocat yellow pages is? this programs seems to take over my friends computer here at home. Can anyone Please tell me what this is and how he can get rid of it ASAP?
I've got a system that's in pop-up hell and i can't figure it out.I've run avg anti-spyware and ad-aware, both updated. AVG found a lot of stuff which i told it to delete. I've run AVG anti-virus and it found 35 threats which i told it to fix and it did. But, I still get pop-ups when I don't even have a browser window open. running IE7 and XP SP2.
Is there any reason the hosts file should not block sites properly?Certain sites I have put in there aren't being blocked, and this is a problem. Also, does it only block the major site (just the www.badsite.com) and not all subdomains of that? (for example "signup.badsite.com")
Just few days ago this was working very well, now suddenly it has responding as mentioned below. When i try to open the swf file locally saved from IE 7. i get message box in IE telling as followed. Title: File Download. Do you want to open or save this file? with Open Save and Cancel options. And am unable to view any flash content online too.
My computer is working fine other than the browser (IE6). It takes about 2 minutes to open a page. Once opened it works fine. My home page is google, I can see the page right away but it's frozen. It stays that way for about 2 minutes then it works fine. No other problems arise until it tries to open a new page. Then the same thing happens again. I emptied all the offline and temp Internet files. Also emptied cookies and history. Ran spybot and adaware but it had no effect.
I have upgraded my browser from IE6 to IE7..I kinda like the new IE7 and the paging it provides some things will take a little getting used to; for instance while I have my browser open I have no way to look at the clock or my antivirus status because these were on the BOTTOM toolbar. For some reason I have not figured out how to have this BOTTOM toolbar displayed while my IE7 browser is open
This issue is occurring on 2 computers - In the past 2 weeks Windows updates cause MAJOR lag in operations - can't open apps, slow response from browser.Updates mostly hang in the 30% range and do not move forward for hours....I leave the computers on over night to complete and sometimes the operation is still not complete.Have disabled auto updates to no avail. It still activates on reboot.
Where is the location of the temp files for the updates so they can be deleted to start fresh without autoupdate?
I've read other threads recently regarding update problems but didn't want to hijack them with my own issue.
I was able to open the windows it self but the problem is i can't open any program most of the time. i did virus scan system mechanic thingy but still it wont let me open a program. but 1 suspicious thing ive noticed is that is happening when im turing the internet on. Inspiron 530 with 4 gb mem quadcore processor, belkin n adapter wondows xp.
When I click a link, the windows icon in the top right moves. As soon as I move my mouse that icon stops and I have no idea why this happens. It does not happen all the time and I have played around with it to isolate which windows and when it happens.....but it's not just my computer, but my work computer as well.
I finally completely crashed my computer because of my inability to accept my computer knowledge level. The Geek Squad sent a nice young man and I'm $350 lighter (plus the $75.00 I used to buy a back up external hard drive a few days after the Geek repair). He saved my pictures and my large I-Tunes library and he fixed the computer. He says it's a solid machine (Sony VAIO, over 1 Gb, 5 years old, don't know any more info) and it probably has a few more years in it. I lost all my programs, but most were free. AVG and Adobe were very cool in giving me new licenses to download programs that I had purchased very recently.
Anyway, I don't know how much of that is relevant accept that the Geek guy messed me up with my default browser. We specifically talked in detail about what I use and what programs I had. AOL has been my e-mail address since AOL started. Everyone, business and otherwise has the address so it is what I use for e-mail only. For a browser I almost totally use Mozilla, although I've been playing a little bit with Opera lately. The problem is that the kid made AOL my default browser. Every time I type a web address in Mozilla or Opera AOL pops open. It even pops open when I'm not in a browser. It states that it is opening because it is set as the default browser. Mozilla told me how to change that, but when I went to the Internet Properties area I saw that the kid didn't even list Mozilla. He put AOL as default. He listed Opera, Outlook Express (which I've never used) and MSN (they must pay these guys a commission because I had all kinds of Microsoft programs I've had to remove). I'm sure that I had something listed as my default browser before but it never did this. I can't find a place to type in or somehow add Mozilla. Can anyone help? Sorry this is so long for what is hopefully not a big problem.
One of the kids downloaded rapid antivirus and it's screwed everything up. I've managed to get rid of therapid AV, but it looks like I've got some malware/adware of some sort running. Attempts to get to symantec, mcaffee, avg, etc give site not available results in IE 7 - includes techguy.org!!!!, but non-"fixit" sites like google and everything else in the world I can get to. Every few clicks, the url is redirected to an ad site. I've run adaware and trendmicro which found Troj_vg_fcx and removed it, but the problem persists.
computer was in blue screen. Unplugged and rebooted. Hung at Starting Windows. Unplugged again and rebooted. Selected user and continued on. Hung after desktop image was downloaded and normal desktop was presented. If I moved the cursor to the task bar, got hour glass. Could not get task manager to appear and could not start any program.Booted in safe mode with networking.
I cannot open any microsoft owned pages, such as www.msn.dk, www.msn.com, www.microsoft.com, www.windowsupdate.com, www.windows.com or any other - on my other pc.I've had this problem for a few weeks and it persists even in firefox. I just formatted my c: and reinstalled winxp, and still the problem persists.
