I have upgraded my browser from IE6 to IE7..I kinda like the new IE7 and the paging it provides some things will take a little getting used to; for instance while I have my browser open I have no way to look at the clock or my antivirus status because these were on the BOTTOM toolbar. For some reason I have not figured out how to have this BOTTOM toolbar displayed while my IE7 browser is open

I like to save my links under the Links toolbar on windows xp. I normally use Fire Fox as my web browser and then tried Opera for a week. When i switched back to Fire Fox the links in my tool bar give me a diff address then normal. Before the switch to Opera then back to FF I would click a link and it would just go to that page. Now, I get a weird address of where the link file is stored.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHad diffs yesterday with computer running at snail speed > did ad-aware/norton scans to clean up > now when I minimize any open window, the tab/s just disappear/s to the left of the lower taskbar so they can't be opened easily again. Must be an easy fix for this but after hours of research in MS Help + Google + your existing threads, haven't been able to source a solution.It happened once before but I can't recall how I got it going properly again - that's what age does to the memory!! Now when I have a PC prob & manage to solve it, I note the solution for the future!Would greatly appreciate any suggestions to solve this irritating prob.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe monitor started showing graphic distortion. I ordered a new monitor but had the same distortion on it. I updated the ATI drivers but it did not solve the problem. In trying to trouble shoot the problem following directions on the ATI website, I changed all the graphic settings to the lowest and slowest available. This got rid of the distortion but the settings need to go! Now I cannot open the display settings.

I've run AVG anti-virus and it found 35 threats which i told it to fix and it did.But, I still get pop-ups when I don't even have a browser window open. running IE7 and XP SP2.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer is working fine other than the browser (IE6). It takes about 2 minutes to open a page. Once opened it works fine. My home page is google, I can see the page right away but it's frozen. It stays that way for about 2 minutes then it works fine. No other problems arise until it tries to open a new page. Then the same thing happens again. I emptied all the offline and temp Internet files. Also emptied cookies and history. Ran spybot and adaware but it had no effect.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis issue is occurring on 2 computers - In the past 2 weeks Windows updates cause MAJOR lag in operations - can't open apps, slow response from browser.Updates mostly hang in the 30% range and do not move forward for hours....I leave the computers on over night to complete and sometimes the operation is still not complete.Have disabled auto updates to no avail. It still activates on reboot.
Where is the location of the temp files for the updates so they can be deleted to start fresh without autoupdate?
I've read other threads recently regarding update problems but didn't want to hijack them with my own issue.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client,not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files.
I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode.The same thing is repeated for other processes like error reporting etc. I am booting in normal mode only but its showing cant run in safe mode.
When I click a link, the windows icon in the top right moves. As soon as I move my mouse that icon stops and I have no idea why this happens. It does not happen all the time and I have played around with it to isolate which windows and when it happens.....but it's not just my computer, but my work computer as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally completely crashed my computer because of my inability to accept my computer knowledge level. The Geek Squad sent a nice young man and I'm $350 lighter (plus the $75.00 I used to buy a back up external hard drive a few days after the Geek repair). He saved my pictures and my large I-Tunes library and he fixed the computer. He says it's a solid machine (Sony VAIO, over 1 Gb, 5 years old, don't know any more info) and it probably has a few more years in it. I lost all my programs, but most were free. AVG and Adobe were very cool in giving me new licenses to download programs that I had purchased very recently.
Anyway, I don't know how much of that is relevant accept that the Geek guy messed me up with my default browser. We specifically talked in detail about what I use and what programs I had. AOL has been my e-mail address since AOL started. Everyone, business and otherwise has the address so it is what I use for e-mail only. For a browser I almost totally use Mozilla, although I've been playing a little bit with Opera lately. The problem is that the kid made AOL my default browser. Every time I type a web address in Mozilla or Opera AOL pops open. It even pops open when I'm not in a browser. It states that it is opening because it is set as the default browser. Mozilla told me how to change that, but when I went to the Internet Properties area I saw that the kid didn't even list Mozilla. He put AOL as default. He listed Opera, Outlook Express (which I've never used) and MSN (they must pay these guys a commission because I had all kinds of Microsoft programs I've had to remove). I'm sure that I had something listed as my default browser before but it never did this. I can't find a place to type in or somehow add Mozilla. Can anyone help? Sorry this is so long for what is hopefully not a big problem.
I have set my default browser as FireFox. So the html files show the Firefox symbol. They should automatically open in Firefox.But this does not happen. When I click on the file nothing used to happen.Suddenly now it opens with IE.When I right click and click open with FireFox nothing happens.

In the my computer window, when i double click on any diskdrive, the diskdrive window opens in a altogether new window(previously it used to open in the same window). I did something in folder options(I dont know what i exactly i did) and from then its behaving like this. I am half way computer literate, but this one has me. I am hoping someone can tell me where to look. When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens.When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.

I can't move them because Windows won't let me move the programs past the top of the screen. There is the MOVE option from the menu in the top-left on some programs, but I am looking more for the ability to grab the windows anywhere, while maybe using a keyboard command, and dragging the window where I need it, past the edge of the screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this is a worn topic, but I searched for similar questions and didn't find the same problem that I am having.Upon reboot, immediatley after the BIOS load screen, I get a white progress bar across the bottom of a black screen. It will move a notch then hesitate for a minute then slowly progress. Once it gets up to about two or three notches it will zip to the end and XP starts to load. If I reboot in Safe Mode the same hesitiation occurs as it loads the list of drivers.Once I start to see the desktop, it will take another 7 minutes or so before I can gain control of the computer and the hard drive runs continuously during that time.
