I just connected a new computer that has Windows XP. But the task bar at the bottom of the desktop is not showing. So I can not get to the window to shut down or restart. control panel, all programs, etc. Can you help me find that task bar
View 2 RepliesMy computer shutdown and on boot up it hangs at the black screen showing the white bar at the bottom. I have Windows 98 and 2000 on my computer and neither will boot up from C:, CDROM, or StartUp/BootUp disks. When I try to boot up from the Windows 2000 boot up disk it sometimes will not get passed the blue screen showing 'Windows 2000 setup. Once or twice it has shown some functions in the bar at the bottom of the page. I have tried to boot up using Windows 98 start up disk but most times it hangs at C:. Last night it did open Windows 98 but would not let me reinstall 2000 or do a repair. It now is hanging in both OS. I am told it could be my memory...but how do I check? Upon start up my memory check shows all is okay. I have ran the utility disk for my hard drive and it says all is okay. Before I invest in new memory is there anything else I should check or try? My computer is older and the memory is quite expensive.

I went into my "processes running" in the windows task manager and deleted (End Process) what I thought were viruses. I was wrong. I deleted all of my desktop icons and the toolbar/taskbar on the bottom that includes my "start" icon. I can not figure out how to get it back to where it was before I screwed it up. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have White Box on my Desktop In Upper-Left Corner of my screen that I cannot delete or otherwise remove. I am running Windows XP, and McAfee and Ad-Aware say I have no viruses. In trying to get rid of this box I have discovered that I can expand and reduce the size of the box from the lower right hand corner, and if I drag a web page shortcut icon from my desktop over the box, the web page is displayed. When a web page is being displayed inside the box there are scroll bars on the right and bottom sides to scroll around the web page. If I click on a hyperlink within the box, my default web browser is opened to the link. At first I was using IE, and then I switched to Firefox, and it made no difference. Periodically, the web page being displayed inside the box will disapear, along with the scrolling bars, leaving behind a white box.
When there is a web page being displayed in the box I can right click on the box and I get a menu with the following options: Back, Forward, Save Background as, Set Background, Copy Background, Set as Desktop Item, Select All, Paste, Create Shortcut, Ad to Favorites, View Source, Print, Refresh, Export to Microsoft Excel, Print, Properties. Some of these items are grayed out. If I select properties, there is a "General" tab with the name of the web page, Protocol Info, Type, Connection, Address, Size, Created, Modified. There is a Certificates button at the bottom in addition to OK and Cancel buttons.
I am trying to put my outlook icon on the task bar. I don't remember how to do it. Can someone help me? Others that I created a long time ago have an .scf at the end of the file name.

If you open up any program, the CPU usage immeaditely goes from like 0 to 100% and occassionally it will shut down and restart. Such times are when I try to run ad-aware or AVG. It will shoot up to 100%, maybe run for a minute then restart the computer. I cant even delete some files because it just restarts before they delete. So, I tried to do a restore since the last time ive been home when it was working good, about a month ago and it did nothing.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am running Dell Inspiron laptop with xp professional I wish to make a presentation using a Hitachi CP-X345 LCD projector.I want to project a slideshow of pictures and also view on my laptop simultaneously from a .jpg picture file on my harddrive. File is in "my Pictures".I have no trouble in opening this picture file and running a slideshow using Windows picture and fax viewer on my laptop. I cannot get the projector to show anything other than my desktop background. I have tried F5 and also Fn crt/lcd on the F8 key.
I have tried to fool around with display settings but to no avail. I cannot even get my desktop with icons projected.
All of a sudden my 'music' folder is showing up on my desktop. But not in the usual spot. It show all misc items on the top third of my desktop. I don't know how I got it there but there it is.

This is a duplicate setup - i have two systems very nearly identical, both HP DC7600's, full-up 4GB RAM, 160GB HD, fairly fresh Windows XP Professional SP3, typical applications: MS Office, Picasa, iTunes, Realplayer, Google Chrome browser, blah blah. Nothing exotic.One of them, after being left with a half dozen tabs open in Chrome, and not much else going on other than AVAST Antivirus running in background, upon checking back in with the Screen Saver "On" [starfield], no password needed, the screen/display freezes on the background image, and nothing else pops up on screen except the mouse cursor.

The computer usually freezes after showing my wallpaper of desktop items. This is probably because I had installed a few programs.Is there a program or something to that I can use to boot my computer faster? View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen i set an image as my wallpaper it appears in the bottom right corner of my screen showing just the upper left corner of the image. it only covers approx 2/3 of my desktop. i have tried everything to fix this and its really annoying. i have tried resizing the images, different refresh rates, new graf card drivers (geforce 6700XL). Tried stretch, tile and centre in display properties, various resolutions combined with refresh rates. different images, even tried a different monitor probably a few things i have missed but i been trying for days.

I went to the sreen to change it and selected the one he wanted . I then closed the system and rebooted, when it first comes up,the background is correct, but when loads icons it reverts to a white background.
