Both of my teens have Windows XP and both computers are running extremely slow after virus/spyware removal. One gets a debugging pop up everytime you try to do anything. I've tried to run skndsk but can only run it in a read only mode. Can anyone advised what to do without having to run fdisk and reformat the hard drive?
I suspect I have an infection on my PC (win2000) but none of my tools are finding anything. TO recap, I did have the msblast/sasser virus but removed it a while back. Since then, I've had the infamous lsass.exe shutdown. Luckily, I have zone alarm firewall so the shutdown only occurs if I disconnect the firewall.I want to fix this once and for all so I downloaded W2k Service Pack 4 and the 'RPC' MS fix (Kb823980-x8-enu.exe). I thought that would fix the problem but no.I've also run other tools like stinger, vcleaner, spybot, adware, antivirus software. I keep the versions/dat files updated. At this point I'm not sure where to start so I'm posting the log results from hijack this. One thing I noticed is that svchost.exe process occurs 3 times. I seem to recall seeing cmd.exe pop up for a second and a 3rd occurence of svchost.exe followed right after.
I have contracted the virus dr32.exe.Error message says: C:WINDOWSSystem32dr32.exe..Also error message says C:WINDOWSSystem32cmd.exe..."Access denied".Also Error loading rm32'dll.Also I have 2 error messages which says a virus in present. I have the "heal" these before the system is fully open. It then syas virus healed. There is also a program running which I have to stop and delete in the shutdown process. How do I rid myself of this. I have Ad-Adware 1.6 1610 and Spybot and AVG which I run everytime before I shut down. These do not detect this problem though.
My computer is running very slowly. I can't help but think that something is running in the background that I can't see. Occasionally I get an error message saying my virtual memory is low. Below is a hijack this log.
My computer used to run fast and now it doesnt... I have ran the defrag, disk cleanup, Ad-adware SE Personal, Spybot Search and destroy, and avg, cleaned up all problems I could find, and I am still unable to multitask... at any great speed... this may be normal, but just wondering if there are things going on I dont know about
I have a trojan horse startpage j.19 virus on my computer...I have tried everything I know to remove it..can anyone help me...AVG has detect it and it will send to the vault but it can't heal it or remove it completly
I need help with this this virus it has removed task manager from being activated and made my desktop disappear and I also can't access my start menu. My Ad-aware program has detected it and it is located in the registry. I can activate Task Manager but thats pretty much it because it keeps on reappearing in the registry... I can pretty much open anything I need to from task manager and I could get the desktop open but im not sure anymore. This programs also won't let me run my virus scanner. This program also disabled my system restore.
Have a Dell Trinitron, with windows xp. Some time ago, after an anti-virus program ran, I could no longer access several icons such as Internet Explorer, Opera, CC cleaner and others. When I click these icons, the message given is "The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." Could someone please tell me how to do this? Also, when I restart the computer, a message comes up saying "Windows cannot find file "1"." I think the anti-virus program removed some virus, and a line or two of programming.
I have recently downloaded a free program and was going to install it. I ran it, and then my antivirus blocked it because it contained a virus. I have been looking for the program for a very long time, and I was angry that it didn't work. So I allowed the infected program and then the it disappeared. The icon disappeared. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but nothing bad happened to me for about a day. Then, my laptop was slower than normal, internet connection was slow (I'm right next to the router too), and I was getting pop-ups. I tried to do System Restore, but all my restore points were gone! I couldn't even switch months! Also, Automatic Updates was telling me that it was off, but when I checked my settings were the same when I first set them.
Ive been having troubles with my comp Programs are opening up slowly and generaly most thing are slow. The main thing that i notice is when trying to attached a item to a emil in outlook i will click insert/file/cdrive/this file/ that file, it takes somewhere between 1-2 min to open cdrive and each click.
Another thing that i noticed was that when i remove the usb keyboard and mouse 1-2 min later i will get the soud of being removed.I get alot of programs not responding but after a while they do, eg when shutting down a associated program with the printer almost allways pops up not resonding but does after a while.
i got a series of really bad viral infection on my computer. My virus programs took care of the viruses but also deleted some of the start up software that is used to boot up my computer correctly. as a last ditch effort I used the system restore function on my computer to reboot it back to a previous configeration. The computer booted back to its original out of the box configuration and I lost all my computer files (but on the flip side my computer was working perfectly now that this was done)
I take the computer to the repair shop so that they can do a deep memory scan to recover my files. They find some of the files and put them in a file folder located on my desktop. i am told by the techie working on my computer that there is a series of .dll errors at the start of windows and that they are the result of a viral infection (Obviously the system restore i did did not do its job of ridding me of the viruses. I did not notice the .dll errors when i initially did the system restore, but that doesn't mean that they weren't there)
I had this Trojan vundo virus about a month ago and you helped me remove it. My computer was running fine until all of the same things started happening again. Im pretty sure i still have the virus b/c my computer is running very slow and just plain bad. I ran VundoFix.exe (it found like 10 things), clicked remove vundo, and rebooted. I ran HijackThis and here is this log file.what i need to delete? ....
Hey guys, I don't have the computer in front of me, but my mom's computer is working really slowly, and it's had the defragger ran on it, and according to Ad-Aware and AVG it's clean, so what could possibly be making it run so slowly? If you absolutely have no idea, I'll try to get a hijackthis log for it, but as I said, Ad-Aware and AVG didn't find anything wrong with it there, and I ran the defrag on it the other day and it didn't help at all. Plenty of space left on the HD, so I have no idea what is going on....except that maybe the computer is a lemon. They've had problems with it since pretty soon after they bought it, but it's just progressively gotten worse.
I have run my adaware, spybot, and virus scan....nothing comes up...but my computer is running very slow....I need to know why pages aren't loading as fast as they were.
I am having problems with my computer running slow. It does not seem to matter what I do it still runs to slow. I am running Windows xp, have no viruses that have been detected but all my programs run slowly. What can I do to fix this problem???
I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my parents' PC. They have WinXP, 512MB RAM, and a 1.2 GHz cpu. They've had a problem wth spyware in the past and have had it cleaned up, but it still boots up extremely slow. Usually it's around ten minutes or so until you can finally do anything on it, and even then, applications seem to take a while to start up and run slow after they do. Is there something I can do to see what's the matter with it?
laptop started operating very slow when I tried opening various MS office softwares. took my computer to a local computer store and they told me that because of a virus I needed to have the entire Windows XP reinstalled. However, due to a high price I haven't been able to have my computer fixed. I already have the Windows XP Pro server pack one on a CD. how i can go about reinstalling Windows XP Pro on my laptop? And is there anything i should be careful about while installing the software?
I inadvertently downloaded spyware about a month ago and since then my computer's system has been slowly deteriorating. I downloaded lavasoft and adaware but they did absolutely nothing to remove problems.Recently my entire computer's screen is blue and says "A fatal error has occurred...error caused by Trojan-Spy.html.smitfraud.c" I'm afraid to use the internet on that computer.
I Recently Had My Computer Rebuilt And Went From Dial Up To Verizon Dsl. Loved The Speed For Awhile. 512 Memory Was Added. Now It It's Running Slower. I Did Add Spybot, A New Usb 2.0 Port, And Several Other Programs. I Have About 20 Icons On My Desktop. Will Any Of This Cause The Slowing Down Of Programs, Getting E Mail, Or Surfing The Internet? You Guys Were Great Last Time About Solving My Usb Port Problem.
I have something called "CTFMON.EXE" loading pertaining to Office XP. Its in my system32 sub directory. I don't have Office XP, I have Office 2000. It looks like it has to do with speech recognition, and text. Of course I removed it, but it came back. I read up on it, and it said it would come back. Do I need this? I never had this before, did I get it with the latest updates from Microsoft 2000? I've taken the check mark out, plus I have completely removed it from my start up, but it still comes back.
I'm probably going to sound like a newbie, but here goes. The computer shop recently formatted my computer and installed Windows XP Home with SP2, anyway when I got my computer back I was missing a modem which according to a printout I had done previously was a HSP56 MR.I called this shop to ask them why they had removed this modem when all that was asked of them was to format and install Windows XP Home on my computer. They had removed this without my permission.Their excuse for doing this was that the modem was virtually useless because the XP Home with SP2 rendered it incompatible? And that most ISP's don't even recognize them anymore? This from the very same computer shop who sold me a computer with a pirated version of XP.
I'm running XP. I did an Ad-Aware scan and removed some tracking cookies. It also stated that I had 29 running processes. How do I find what is running to help speed up my PC, and also; which are essential? I have dial-up AOL. It's running like a horse-drawn computer. How can I get it up to at least steam-powered.
i have had something on my pc for sometime now. i am unable to get rid of it. i have tried norton antivirus, trend micro, spy sweeper, adaware.all programs detect threats, remove them, but the problems keep coming back. it started out as random pop ups on my computer. then, a few days ago i realized i could not access my task manager or my control panel. i get an error stating that the 'task manager has been disabled by administrator' and 'the program has been disabled due to restrictions on your computer. contact administrator.'
The seller posted a picture of the PC with OS License sticker on it. Unfortunately when I got the computer the sticker was removed. When I asked the guy why is that, he said that usually many items on eBay don't have the original picture. When I told him that I was expecting to get the PC licensed, he said that in the description clearly states the OS is optional. Well, it wasn't that clear and easy to find that, but yes there was such a statement. Now I feel ripped off. I paid about $300 for 3 years old computer an if I have to pay for new license, that purchase becomes a little pricy. I was definitely expecting to get licensed machine. So, here is my question. Is the seller allowed to remove sticker from original Dell machine and sale it without it?
I had a trojan Virus in the computer. I think that I got rid of it, but I am not sure could anyone that can read a log please tell me if there is anything else left in the computer. The computer now doesn't stay on-line it disconnects itself. I called the company that provides me with my internet service, and they said that I need a filter for the phone line. The person told me that, that will take care of the problem of the internet disconnecting. I think that it could be the virus I had in the computer. I wasn't able to get on-line for at least a week, I had gone and checked the disk for errors and finally the anti-virus program was able to find the virus's.
Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank
