I have windows xp & last night my cursor froze up. I replaced the mouse but that made no difference. I used the keyboard to navigate & did a system restore to 2 days previous. That did nothing. I powered down several times & still no results. I was playing spider solitaire that came with the computer when the cursor froze. This morning when I turned the computer back on the cursor was working again, but when I started playing spider again it froze up after a while. I powered down & got the cursor back, but who knows for how long. Could the spider game be causing this? I'm running my virus scan right now & so far no threats.
I had Hearts and Spider Sol. on my Dell Laptop when I bought it. I have used them for over 2years but I turned on my laptop last week and they weren't there. The OnLine games are still there but the ones on my computer are gone! (Except pinball which i don't play). Anyone know how I can get these back? I've done a Computer all Files search with no luck.
My mouse cursor is frozen in the middle of the deskstop, Cannot use keyboard to getinto system. Also when booting up system freezes and takes 3-4 minutes to load. Tried in safe mode and the same thing happens.Don't know what to do at this point...just want to get into computer
The first issue is that my cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen upon startup. It will not move and I have to shut down, check connections, (keyboard and mouse are wireless, batteries are new) and as it restarts I click the mouse and it moves after I do this several times. I have to put the computer on standby every night or I have to go through the whole thing again. Moreover, windows startup has become horribly slowand I have hi-speed roadrunner I use firefox for my internet connection. I have run defraq, disk cleanup, AVG, maleware, spybot, hijackthis, and Ad-aware. No change.... Thank you for any help. The following is my system infolet me now what other info you may need. BTW V2Premier batch loaded XP on the cpu so I do not have a disk. They are out of business and have sent me in circles trying to get one.
I have windows xp and it has a hibernate mode. Well someone put it in that mode and when I wanted to launch windows the cursor is frozen and I can't get out of the hibernate mode. What can I do to get rid of hibernate and launch windows?
I have an old IBM Thinkpad R51 (loaded with Windows XP) which kept going through the boot up sequence without coming up all the way. I had got it back to the factory default setting and now it is booting all the way to the desktop screen. But I have a new problem: the cursor (laptop mouse pad) is frozen. I was able to move it around as it was booting up but once it boots up to the desktop screen the cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen. I would load the XP service pack but because of the cursor I can't.
my computer has started freezing after startup. Well, I say the computer has started freezing, but it's stranger than that. Pretty much as soon as I log into Windows, the taskbar freezes up. Mousing anywhere on the taskbar causes the cursor to turn into the hourglass. The system tray icons are frozen as well. This happens every time the computer starts up.
Desktop items are all clickable and somewhat usable, but to a limited extent. For example, I can open "My Computer" but then explorer freezes if I double-click on either hard drive. I have a videos folder on the desktop that I can open, but if I then try to play any of the videos, Windows Media Player opens with a blank white screen and never actually starts playing the video.
My computer is running slower and the internet is running very slow compared to a week ago. The cursor will at times freeze up if a couple of screens are open and I don't move it for a minute or 2. Sometimes when the screen saver activates I can't do anything cause its frozen. I have updated and ran;
I am having a terrible problem my cursor works for a short period of time then freezes. I reboot and it happens again. When I am in Safe Mode Networking it does not happen. So I do not believe it is my Hard Drive.
my cursor has been frozen in the middle of the screen at startup. I thought it was my wireless optical mouse, but after switching back to a regular (cabled) mouse, it did it again. I just unplugged, and replugged the mouse and it began working normally. I cleaned my system previously with Spybot, Adaware, Regscrub XP, and have AVG, Zonealarm and MS Spyware updated. I ran AVG and Stinger and found nothing.
my computer freezes when I play some video games and also when I play AVI files (if I play mpeg files they work just fine, no freezing at all) But the thing is when I play games or AVI files my computer will freeze randomly (5 minutes, 30 minutes, just randomly sometimes it won't freeze at all) I don't know if it's the memory or not.
I have a hp pavillion dv4000 i bought 2 1/2 years ago and I ran a program the other day called window washer by webroot (spysweeper program) I checked boxes to clean everything and checked a box saying i wanted it cleaned i think 24 times which is what they claim the fbi uses a Guttman style cleaner. I let it run over night and the next day I got an error message System could not log you on. Make sure your Username and Domain are correct then type password again.
I tried everything including putting the recovery cd in the hp and then i put the xp disk and it went through a period where it looked like it was reinstalling and repairing it then it got all the way to the end and the screen popped up again. The mouse in frozen in the middle of the screen (the arrow)and the blinky straight line where you would type isn't moving even if i had a username and password to type I obviously don't normally handle these things but I am forced to this minute and i could REALLY use some help.
Here is a problem that I am having. It could just be because our computer needs to be upgraded a little bit but never know. So, I just reformated my computer a week ago tomorrow. Just got the sound working again on it and we have now noticed that there is something going on with the computer. Its not because of the sound or anything like that. Its been going on since reformat pretty much. It will freeze, but not in the general sense. It happens every so often. Probably 3 or 4 times a day. But when it freezes you are still able to move the mouse, music still plays, and everything continues working. You can switch between open programs and surf the web while it is "frozen". You can't open anything, but you can close somethings. Task Manager won't open and you can't close a non-responsive program when you hit End Now.
A LG netbook turned it on and the cursor is just stuck there in the middle of the screen. I don't use a mouse, just the touchpad, so I can't even attempt to do anything. Everything else seems to be working fine in the background upon boot up and on the desktop, but the cursor won't budge. Tried to open control panel but obviously can't do that with the cursor stuck. Any options the DON'T involve me having to buy a new USB mouse
I reformatted my Dell laptop with Windows2000 xp to remove viruses. Now I cannot download MSN explorer and resolution is stuck on 4 bit default monitor.
I have a Compaq Presario 3045US that freezes on occasion for no apparent reason. Mouse, keyboard will not function, unable to shut down, have to pull power and reboot. Don't get any error message and no repeatable process although watching dvds does seem to cause it to happen more often.
Two computers on a home network, laptop has frozen. Cannot get past request for password. First I had a problem because IE would not load normally (all I had was wallpaper with no task bar or icons) and I had to use Windows Task Manager to access the computer.I followed an online suggestion to use regedit and to type "explorer.exe" in the Winlogon folder after deleting everything else shown. (I did a System Restore first which did nothing and then a Restore point before deleting). Then I tried restarting the laptop but it asked me for a password for each user account. We have never used a password at all. I logged in Safe Mode and entered Administrator which does not need a password and it started to load then logged off and changed user account. I could not get access. I tried to enter Safe Mode with command prompt but it would not let me, just asked for a password. I tried previous good configuration or whatever it is called but it did nothing. I have obviously stuffed it up by deleting what I did and I need to do a System Restore if it is not too late. It will not take the XP setup disk from my desktop computer. The laptop came with bundled software and there are no discs. Any suggestions? I think it will probably need to go to a local technician and I will have to pay megabucks to have him format the hard drive but I reluctant to lose the programmes and data on the laptop and hope there is another way. I also experienced the original problem on the main desktop computer with explorer not loading but I saved all I could and reinstalled XP which worked. I did not do this with the laptop because I did not have any discs for it.I believe a trojan "Small AOK' was responsible for the original problems as AVG found and deleted it. The original problem will still be there I expect but I need to log on in order to fix it.
Forgive me if this is not the right thread to post my qurey & I would be grateful if you can let me know where I can post my problem but Yesterday my kids were looking on the internet on my lap top. I don't know what they did to it, but when I turned it on this morning, it does not seem to be working. I do get up to the desk top screen and then it seems to freeze no matter what I try to access - the internet or other Word applications. I presume the kids turned the lap top off yesterday without logging out in the correct way or not exiting from a website in the usual way.
i recently opened a file that my firewall ( ZoneAlarm ) told me it wants to use explorer.exe thinking thats normal because i would be asked to browse i allowed it. When i did that my pc froze. I couldnt click anything but the i could kepp moving the mouse. I could only open the ctrl+alt+delete but couldnt click anything the same applies to the start menu by pressing the start menu button on my keyboard. After that my pc froze from time to time when its doing somethng that requires it to think lol i know funny sentence but what i mean is for exemple when i click the button to show the hidden files or to hide them it froze. Or opening a program some times.... My guess is that the explorer.exe is damaged and reinstalling it would fix the problem. I scanned with norton and webrout spy sweeper 0 infections. You can find Here my HijackThis log , didnt want to make this a long post with the HijackThis log. Any ideas ? Am i right about reinstalling the explorer.exe ? if i am how can i do it ? I want a solution that doesnt lose me my updates.
I upgraded my video card drivers (latest nvidia geforce drivers), and restarted. Everything seemed to be fine. I tried to boot up Madden 2007 which I'd just gotten this weekend and had no problems with... until today. It wouldn't start up, seemingly frozen while trying to start... finally after waiting a few minutes I task manger/ended the program, or tried to. XP seemed to freeze up... I finally got tired of waiting and decided to hit the restart button, but accidentally put it into standby mode instead. I couldn't get it out of standby mode and at that point had to power down and turn the pc back on. Ever since then, it's been taking longer to boot up, and the worst part is that the cd and dvd drives don't seem to work properly.
computer constructed by a computer company Comtex, windows xp, 512 ram, 40 gb. It has been running slow and freezing up some, today while trying to run spyware, it is slower than molasses, over 7 hours and still not done. In addition, I can not open any internet windows or access it at all from my user id , and yes I am over loaded with programs and photos on my poor harddrive. So after restarting it about 30 times, I try my son's identity and I can access the internet, last night IE was almost impossible, but firefox was better. I did download a file from photobucket, which I did not install and then I uninstalled it. I also have uninstalled and reinstalled yahoo messenger a couple times, thinking that was freezing it up, I added the google toolbar just recently and the ym, seems to conflict anytime I download a new program, so as of now It is uninstalled.
I used the restore cd my pc came with. Once it was done, Windows started up and it froze where it asks me to name the computer cant do anything from this screen. Ive tried contacting the manufacturer but they cant help because my warranty is up. Any suggestions would be greatful. Thanks
I let my roommate use it and look what happened... Good thing I already had a new one.
Compaq laptop running XP has been on "time out' hoping for a change of attitude, no such luck.
Today I tried to put her in Safe Mode and got as far as the "Windows" screen with those 3 blue squares continually cycling. That is as far as she seems willing to go.
When I try to run Disk Cleanup, the message comes up, "Disk Cleanup is calculating how much space." but the progress bar is frozen at about 10% and nothing happens. How do I unfreeze it so the utility will run?
Did a system manufacturer install(wiped everything)..Went thru process 2 days ago...Computer was working great, best it had run in awhile...Today when I turned it on I was able to move the cursor around but nothing could be clicked on except for the initial 5-8 secs Windows came on, I was able to click on icons but it wasn't long enough to run before the computer froze....I'm worried I have a hardware failure because the software ran fine for 2 days..Computer is 5 yrs old..
I recently used CDBurnerXP Pro 3 to write an iso image on the HDD. The progress bar jumped to something like 27% and was apparently frozen.Thinking something was wrong, I tried to terminate the program by ctrl+alt+del and the window opened up with the status message "not responding". But the "end task" refused to terminate the CDBurnerXP...The HDD lamp was glowing. The final observation was that the iso image was successfully written.I have repeated the process and my observation on 2 different computers is the same - the progress window jumps to some %age completed and freezes, CDBurnerXP is writing the image to the HDD, but the status window shows the program "not responding".
I was playing a game last night (a legit game) and it freezes, so I restart and get the whole "Sorry for the inconvenience windows shut down to protect files on your computer" screen and it asks me how i want to boot up XP, either in the safe modes or Last known good congifuration or start windows normally, so i use last known and the windows loading screen comes up and the blue bar is passing by normally, but it goes for a very long tiem and eventually freezes and I have to restart. It also does this whenever I choose any other way up booting XP too. I've taken my computer apart, cleaned it, unplugged everything and plugged everything back in, read justed the harddrive and NOTHIGN works. It still gives me the frozen windows loading screen. Is there ANYTHING I can do to solve this problem short from hooking my hard drive up to another computer and seeing what's wrong from there?
I am in big trouble. I have an hp pavilion a206x- and oldie. The kids gunked it up and it was so slow and running out of memory. Add/remove programs did not help. I decided to use the recovery disks and start with a clean slate. I backed up what we needed on cds and did a full recovery after doing the ctrl backspace option 6 to erase the hard drive. (oh, btw, it is XP) After all six disks, it freezes. I get to the screen that says "Recovery in progress." with Finalizing recovery highlighted in red on the left. Chatted with HP tech and there are no other recovery disks available because it is so old. I don't want to put any money into it. She says repair or retail OS purchase only options.
