Computer Running Slow / Freezes Frequently While Opening Internet?
Mar 5, 2007
Some days it will run perfectly fine, but most of the time it's so slow, and freezes frequently. My comp is slow with programs (especially opening) and also on the internet. Aso, my processing light is always on, no flicker, just a solid light. I usually get frustrated and shut it down. I've ran a lot of anti-spyware, defrags, and disk cleanups. The disk cleanups used to allow it to run a lot faster, but now it doesn't help one bit. I'm thinking I'm just low on RAM,
Whether opening the browser or Windows explorer or a software programs - this thing is like pulling teeth. It wasn't that bad the other day and it seems like overnight it got unbearable. I did a disk cleanup
my computer is running slow and freezes. I checked the task manager and explorer.exe is fluctuating continually from 3% to 97% even with no progs open It just goes up and down . I am running xp pro. I have tried doing a clean boot but cant as even tho I have admin rights it tells me.
I have a problem with my computer freezing. I am using Windows XP SP3. The freezing occurs kind of randomly, sometimes after being on for a few days, sometimes after windows starts, but when it occurs, I have to push the power button on my computer to shut everything down. There is no error message, everything just stops.
Hi I hope someone can help, I am using windows XP home edition. my comp. is running very slow and programs keep saying not responding ,both online and offline. it takes a long tiome to starrt up and shut down and when i try to change or do more than one thing at a time my computer freezeup on me.
Computer frequently "freezes" or "hangs". Every time I click on a link from e. mails, but also when on web sites (mostly craft). I do fragment and clean discs regularly.
I have windows xp and when I am on the internet the computer is always freezing up or running very slow and I will have to reboot the computer. I have 512mb of ram, 60 gig hard drive.
Our family computer is running like a slug. It takes forever to startup and open programs and the hard drive activity light is always on. It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!
Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank
computer has been lagging and playing up lately. It doesn't start up as fast and the connection is not running as fast as it usually does. I want to know if the hijack this log shows.

My computer runs very slow and I notice that on my computer properties it say I have 37.2BGB and 31.2used with 6.04free. My question is would this cause my computer to run slow.
I am using Windows XP and have wireless internet access.....for some reason my connection has become slower than that of dial up. My daughter recommended I visit this site for help

A few days ago, someone apparently hacked into my wife's Yahoo email account and sent out a bunch of bogus emails to people in her address book, including myself. The email contained a link. Since she sometimes sends me stuff to check out, I made the supreme mistake of clicking on it. It took me to some pharmaceutical site and I knew it was bogus and clicked out immediately. But the damage seems to have been done.
I have just tried to reinstall XP Professional on an Elite computer. Initially all seemed to be going well I got as far as the desktop and an invitation to take the tour, which I declined and went straight to connect to the internet. At the same time I opened a previously prepared set of instructions for completing the wizard. I noticed that the instructions would not scroll easily, moving in little jerks, but I carried on. About half way through the wizard the computer froze. Finding nothing on the keyboard or mouse that would work I switched off the power.
My computer:Toshiba Satellite M35X-S32980GB Hard Drive 480MB RAM Windows XP About a week ago, my laptop started freezing up a few minutes after I turned it on. Couldn't do Control-Alt-Delete, just had to press down power button for 10 seconds. I managed to get it to stay on long enough to copy my important files--it never locked up while I was copying files onto a CD, but almost always locked up immediately after I ejected the CD. Sometimes it would restart on its own rather than freezing up. Twice I saw a blue screen flash with some text on it, but it was too quick for me to see what error messages it had. I noticed also that it started saying that it had found new hardware on my computer and tried to install it. The new hardware that it said it found was: VIA OHCI IEEE 1394 Host Controller.I searched some forums for possible causes, and saw that someone had a similar problem and that their computer worked when the CD/DVD drive was in use--I've found that works for me too. It works totally fine as long as I have a DVD in the drive playing or on pause.
computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.
I have found that i am frequently running into BSOD.I have been trying to use windb to determine the cause of the problems and while i'm pretty sure there is a driver somewhere that is at fault i have no idea how to determine which one. In the last month and a bit i have updated every driver i could think of, but the BSOD keep occuring.i have run memtest 86 for 24hrs without any problem being detected, but i've heard that some problems can be missed so i havent ruled out a faulty memory stick.I have attached a copy of the crash dumps generated by the BSOD and i am wondering if it was possible for someone to have a look and see if there is anything obvious that may be causing the problem. there are 41 mini dumps ranging from september last year until 8.30 pm tonight.
On newly built system with a clean install of windows we are having trouble with my computer opening slowly. The box opens quickly but the drives take 20 seconds to show up. I have disabled windows image aquisition service and turned off Automatically search for network drives and folders. This computer is used to connect to three different hospitals websites with citrix and other web based portals. Is it possible that some of the active x controls that make it possible for the desktop to log in securely to the hospitals have caused this issue? If so how can I fix it without a reformat.
I had dial up 4 years, I finally got DSL a month agao, now instead of my computer running faster , it is running slower than dial up! I also get a message after I shut down a window, ( memory could not be read error ) sorry I forget the numbers but will copy them down when i log off. I have Windows XP Home Edition.
We run Comcast high speed, two computers running though a router setup. My son "opened a port" to speed up his game play. My computer now crawls. Pages take too long to load, and I now sometimes get the server error message here, server not responding. Any idea what I can do. My son seems baffled, but I know he doesn't want to sacrifice his warp speed game play.
Someone told me that my computer is running slow because I have too many programs running in the background. Could this be true and if so, how do I delete the unnecessary programs and more to the point, how do I recognize which programs are necessary and which are not?
I have installed Norton Security 2007, my internet is running very very slow, I have ran a few anti-virus checks and everything seems fine, also very slow start-up,
