PROBLEM IS : i can not browse Intenet.
i get following message while i'm pinging
pinging <here some diffrent ascii character> with 32 bytes of data:
followings are ok.
i checked 1.ip addres,with subnet mask,gateway,ect.
The windows explorer address bar is gone. I've already checked/unchecked View>Toolbars>Address Bar several times--no help. This is XP Home. It works fine on my other PC running XP Pro.

Any ideas what could be causing this. I am well scanned for virus, ant-spy, malware, and keep my registry clean with Personal Computer DOC, C-Cleaner, and Cleanup.
View 22 Replies View RelatedLast week I posted a question to this forum regarding the trouble I was having uninstalling Explorer Beta 2 (you can't install Beta 3 until you UNINSTALL beta 2). I got some very good suggestions -- system restore, trying REinstalling beta 2, etc. but none of them worked. Beta 2 won't reinstall unless you uninstall, restoring back to earlier times resurrected other demons and glitches I had solved, etc. What I believed happened is part of my overzealous file maintenance. I usually delete all those windows update Uninstall files that clutter up the Windows directory. Who knew that one of them was probably the uninstall file for Explorer Beta 2?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have run across a problem here with APIPA addressing. After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article
I am using Windows XP Home edition. How do you delete an address from the list of automatic webb address list in the Address box? I tried highlighting it and entering delete but it doesn't get deleted.

When I open the lid again and the computer boots back into windows, the wireless internet doesn't work. In normal mode, internet explorer will not display any web pages. However, if you try
to bring up any site (By IP, or URL) and let it sit there for 30 minutes, it will eventually. Then, once it brings up a single page, you can browe. BUT ONLY IF YOU ACTUALLY TYPE "HTTP://" AT THE START OF THE URL OR Click on a link on the page it finally brings up. Now, to make matters worse, it does not exhibit any of these problems in Safe Mode With Networking. In that mode, everything works perfect. I can browse with no lag what so ever, I can do just about anything.
I'm administering a heterogeneous TCP/IP-based network with Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP (2 computers), Linux, and SGI's IRIX. I have a problem with one of the Windows XP computers. lets call it Laptop.Laptop can see all of the other computers that put out Windows-accessible shares and can browse any folder that shows up in its own Network Neighborhood.

Everybody can browse Laptop's C-drive and E-Drive.
No one can browse either Laptop's main user's My Documents or the general Shared Documents folders.
The 'browse' and 'position' buttons in the desktop tag under display properties, have become Gray! now i cant 'stretch' or 'center' my wallpapers, nor can i change the wallpapers from there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a portal project that embeds excel sheets into IFrames. Well, some of our clients are having issues with the excel file opening in excel instead of the IFrame. We found a fix by going into My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types, selecting the XLS file type, clicking the advanced button, and then checking the browse in same window check box. This works great. But we have one customer who's checkbox is disabled, and we can't figure out why. He's running xp pro sp2, and logged in as the administrator.
