I am using windows XP pro and all has been great. Suddenly, today I can no longer surf. All I get is page cannot be found. I have checked with the cable company and everything is fine on there end. under IPCONFIG I have correct address and dns servers. The cable company thinks it is a firewall issue on my end. I have windows firewall disabled and uninstalled all Norton products.
I will try to explain what is wrong. every week I receive a newsletter with job offers, at the end of each job there is a link to go to the website for more info.... normally the link is in blue, and I just click it, and proceed to the website. however, on the last two occasions the link is in normal text(white) and I cant open the website, all settings are at default on my pc.
I installed a parental control program for Internet Explorer, but it was not allowing AOL to dial any numbers. Also, after shutting down the AOL, Windows XP would shut down the parental control program saying that it was malfunctioning. So I decided to delete the parental control program from my hard drive, and I used the uninstall program of the parental control program to uninstall it. After the uninstall, I noticed that I could dial and use the AOL browser as usual, but I could not use Internet Explorer. Any web pages that I tried to visit using IE would not display, and Internet Explorer would say, This page cannot be displayed.
I got a problem here, i am using internet explorer to browse some HK websites. But unfortunately i can't read those words, any clue to intsall the coding?
I am using a laptop and sometimes I shut the lid and put it into hibernate mode. When I open the lid again and the computer boots back into windows, the wireless internet doesn't work. Windows says my computer is connected to the wifi network but when i open firefox or internet explorer it just doesn't work. I am using windows xp pro.
Browser will not resove domain names, but will connect to a URL based on an IP address. Nslookup works, but DNScache is empty (DNScache enabled). No traffic from host to resolve name detected on the modem firewall. Other PCs continue to work as normal. Was adding Service pack 3 for XP when this occurred. No other browser on this PC.
IE started acting funny in that it started displaying text very small. For example, on this very site's homepage, under Tom's pic in the welcome section, the text is very small. It used to be very clear and readable, but now its a real strain on the eyes. Its happening on all pages, not just this one.
After long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.
OS is Windows XP. The computer is 6 years old & have never had problems. Recently I'm unable to access internet Explorer. The white page appears and the "connecting" message...and there it stays. Also, I'm unable to download .net versions 2.0 through 3.5, which appears to prevent me from downloading other programs. One tech tried to assist me remotely & ultimately suggested
I have Lenovo laptop with 160GB Hard disk,1 GB RAM running on Windows Server 2003 SP1 32 bit.All of a sudden I cannot browse the net either Internet Explorer or Firefox, although my laptop says i am connected to wireless with Excellent signal strength, but the browser won't display any web pages.

Ive got a computer that will browse the net fine, but when i try to go to an antivirus site like "us.mcafee.com" or "symantec.com" or "us.mcafee.com" is this maybe some bad sypware or a virus?
I just installed my pc with raid 5. Just trying it out... For my raid drivers to install correct i had to create an unattended install of windows xp x64 with nlite. Now when i want to change the download directory of firefox or utorrent i get this: In other applications like photoshop, 3dsmax or office the file browse window appears correct.
Whenever I go to Start>Documents, I can see the last 15 files that I have browsed. Is there a way to completely empty this folder and prevent the files you browse from ending up in it?
I downloaded a picture I wanted to use as my desktop scene to My Documents> My Pictures. It loaded OK.Control Panel>Display>Desktop> Browse>My Pictures opened OK,but, the pic I wanted did not show up. Rechecked My Pictures via My Docs and there it was. Trouble is I can't load to Desktop from there as it has to be from the Browse window. Why do have 2 My Pictures?I have rebooted and tried everything I could think of.The picture I want is a .swf file which I opened from an email.
We've just purchased a new laptop and would like to be able to print from our Lexmark printer (attached to a desktop pc) that is in another room. All attempts to "add another printer" have been futile. I can't seem to locate a printer when I "browse" for one and have no idea what the URL is for our Lexmark.
Neighbor's Dell 8250 PC. XP Home. Comcast. Linksys WRT54GS. Cleaned the PC a month ago, installed Norton 2005, WiFi setup on her new Dell laptop (also running XP Home), shared the printer, everything worked GREAT until she got hit with a NASTY piece of malware. Popups like mad .... she soon discovered she could no longer print from the laptop. I Installed Microsoft Antispyware, found and cleaned some stuff. Then rand Trend Micro's online spyware scan, found even more. Popups gone, system is stable, but we still cannot print via the laptop. Printer is shared properly and operating normally via the desktop.
Checked USENET and Microsoft.com - began suspecting Windows Firewall was compromised. It was OFF (and I know it had been ON before), all settings were dimmed out, message @ top: "For your security, some settings are controlled by Group Policy." User is a local administrator. Can't run Policy Editor in XP Home, but I found reference to PolicySettings.xls, which has registry keys for every OS.....
In normal mode, internet explorer will not display any web pages. However, if you try to bring up any site (By IP, or URL) and let it sit there for 30 minutes, it will eventually. Then, once it brings up a single page, you can browe. BUT ONLY IF YOU ACTUALLY TYPE "HTTP://" AT THE START OF THE URL OR Click on a link on the page it finally brings up. Now, to make matters worse, it does not exhibit any of these problems in Safe Mode With Networking. In that mode, everything works perfect. I can browse with no lag what so ever, I can do just about anything.
I'm administering a heterogeneous TCP/IP-based network with Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP (2 computers), Linux, and SGI's IRIX. I have a problem with one of the Windows XP computers. lets call it Laptop.Laptop can see all of the other computers that put out Windows-accessible shares and can browse any folder that shows up in its own Network Neighborhood.
Everybody can see Laptop in Network Neighborhood
Everybody can see the shares on Laptop -- and everybody sees the same list of shares
Everybody can browse Laptop's C-drive and E-Drive.
No one can browse either Laptop's main user's My Documents or the general Shared Documents folders.
The 'browse' and 'position' buttons in the desktop tag under display properties, have become Gray! now i cant 'stretch' or 'center' my wallpapers, nor can i change the wallpapers from there.
We have a portal project that embeds excel sheets into IFrames. Well, some of our clients are having issues with the excel file opening in excel instead of the IFrame. We found a fix by going into My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types, selecting the XLS file type, clicking the advanced button, and then checking the browse in same window check box. This works great. But we have one customer who's checkbox is disabled, and we can't figure out why. He's running xp pro sp2, and logged in as the administrator.
Win XP Home - SP 2.I get the following message when trying to schedule tasks I tried using Task page Browse button to locate the application. I did a Google search no answers. The new task has been created, but may not run because the account information could not be set. The specific error is:0x800070005: Access is denied. Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application. Also - is there a site where I can find explanations for the error codes?

My daughter is unable to get on the Internet. She can get on MSN Messenger by using the little icon in the bottom tray,it will keep signing her in & out.She can get on Yahoo Messenger the same way & doesn't seem to have any problems staying connected to it.I had her check her AVG to see if it needed updated. When she clicked on the desktop icon it came up to her Virus vault. When she clicks on it it says- The memory could not be read.So she clicks ok & the AVG disappears.Next I had her click on her Internet Explorer icon itsaid-iexplorer.exe-Application error. It comes up in a box that is blue on the top & tan on the bottom. Then it also closes itself.I told her I would come on here & see if anyone had any ideas of what I can tell her to do since she can't seem to get on the Internet & I don't have XP.
As the title states my computer all of a sudden started to be really slow, this happened about a week ago.Well, a little history behind my Laptop. It's an Acer TravelMate 4070, and I got it at the end of summer vacation 2006, so it's kinda old, I know. Anyways, it has worked perfectly for it's purposes until a week ago. I only used it for Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Firefox, Messenger, iTunes and World of Warcraft (admitted; im addicted) which all ran with no problems at all.Now 3 weeks ago I reformatted it, due to helluvalot BSODS, and then I reformatted it again 2 weeks ago 'cos the 3 weeks ago reformat was a false copy of Windows XP, tho.
Firefox, WinRar, Windows Live, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Daemon Tools, VLC, Spytbot S&D, CCleaner and all the drivers for my laptop ofc. Then there went a week and I installed BitTorrent, 'cos I wanted something I've allready payed license on! After that there went 3 days and my computer suddenly started to run very slow.It takes 2 minutes to start up and explorer.exe uses additional 1 minute to load. Also, I can't play music and watch videos on it anymore, music simply gets a "lag" every 1sec, and videos plays like they have a FPS equal 1, plus my CPU speeds is on 60%+ if I have anything open at all or moves my mouse to fast.
I just put together a new computer with a ASUS P5P800 motherboard, 1gb Ram, 200gb hard drive. AMI BIOS, Marvell 88E8001 GB LAN controller (built in NIC) and I am unable to access the Internet. Device manager lists the Network adapter and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It also hangs whenever I try to use dialup. It dials and hangs. Tested modem in Control panel and I can Query the modem fine. I suspect that it has to do with my BIOS settings, but I cannot figure it out. I am running WinXP Pro, SP1.
Hello, my friend at school built me a computer about two years ago. I recently got a debilitating virus on it, so I decided to reinstall the OS. I previously had XP Pro on it, but I didn't have the disk or the serial number so I installed a copy of XP home that I had laying around my house. After re-formating the hard drive and installing xp, I am now unable to access the internet. Also the graphics look very poor on my monitor. I am guessing it has something to do with my motherboard. So I went into device manager and there is a ?! next to the following things: ethernet controller, pce device, sm bos controller, unknown device and video controller.I have an ASUS P5L-vm socket 775 motherboard. I tried going on their website and looking up what to install, but I was unable to decifer which one to grab.
