Whenever I go to Start>Documents, I can see the last 15 files that I have browsed.Is there a way to completely empty this folder and prevent the files you browse from ending up in it?
View 6 RepliesI'm administering a heterogeneous TCP/IP-based network with Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP (2 computers), Linux, and SGI's IRIX. I have a problem with one of the Windows XP computers. lets call it Laptop.Laptop can see all of the other computers that put out Windows-accessible shares and can browse any folder that shows up in its own Network Neighborhood.
Everybody can see Laptop in Network Neighborhood
Everybody can see the shares on Laptop -- and everybody sees the same list of shares
Everybody can browse Laptop's C-drive and E-Drive.
No one can browse either Laptop's main user's My Documents or the general Shared Documents folders.
im stumped, ive been a moderate pc user for about 9yrs now and this has me stumped i dont work with windows itself thats why im here im more into Web Programs etc.... Anyway im getting the Following Blue Screen Error: 0x0000008E, This error is happening 5-10 times per day, Sometimes it will be random sometimes it wont. It happens alot when i use mozilla to browse or download files and it happens when im not using mozilla also.

All other files in all other folders are fine, the problem is only in My Documents in Thumbnail vewing form. how do i get the names of my folders and files back? i tried to attach a picture of what my screen looks like now.

When I lock on with the local administrator account, I want to see the files in the local user's account. In other works, I want to be able to see: c:doucments and setingssmithmy documents*.*. But I'm not seeing the "my documents" subdirectory of the local "smith" account.

Is there any way to find the files that were in the previous windows installation's 'my documents' folder? View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to my documents the document is listed there but when I click to open it, it won't load. It will however load if I am already in the program which usually opens it. Beside them it says SIG file, which I have no idea what that means. Also, it is just a blank box beside the file name (in my documents list) when usually there is a mini icon showing which program will work to open it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo today I was cleaning out my computer, deleting and moving around old and useless files and documents, etc. I have one folder that contained a plethora of important documents for work (mostly WordPad .rtf documents that I spent countless hours composing). I have another folder, under the same name, in a different part of my computer, with old, useless stuff in it. When I attempted to delete this file, I accidentally right-clicked on the important file, and hit 'delete.Now, a huge amount of hugely important WordPad documents are gone. I checked my Recycle Bin, and nothing was there (on my computer, deleted files oddly usually dont go to the Recycle Bin). I then looked to see if I had stored backups of anything, and I had backup copies of a grand total of 3 of my documents (leaving easily 100 still gone). I then did the only thing I could think of that could possibly restore my lost files: I did a System Restore (I restored my computer to a checkpoint made at about 8 PM yesterday). They were still not there.

The person outsourced told them to do another install of Windows to get in so they can back up their files. They tell him to install to Windows1 instead of Windows. I guess the smart outsourced agent thought this wouldn't delete any files since my friend told him he has some very important documents on this hard drive. So he installs another Windows and guess what, his documents and settings get overwritten. Looks like these guys really know what they're talking about since any Microsoft person should know this happens no matter where you install Windows

We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.

Since then I have installed a few applications on a different partition, but it is not uncommon for applications to put something in the program files folder anyway Is there a safe and easy way of having "my documents" and or "program files" on a bigger partition? Or would that defeat the whole point of a system partition?

I am using windows XP pro and all has been great. Suddenly, today I can no longer surf. All I get is page cannot be found. I have checked with the cable company and everything is fine on there end. under IPCONFIG I have correct address and dns servers. The cable company thinks it is a firewall issue on my end. I have windows firewall disabled and uninstalled all Norton products.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a picture I wanted to use as my desktop scene to My Documents> My Pictures.It loaded OK.Control Panel>Display>Desktop> Browse>My Pictures opened OK,but, the pic I wanted did not show up. Rechecked My Pictures via My Docs and there it was. Trouble is I can't load to Desktop from there as it has to be from the Browse window. Why do have 2 My Pictures?I have rebooted and tried everything I could think of.The picture I want is a .swf file which I opened from an email.

When I open the lid again and the computer boots back into windows, the wireless internet doesn't work. Windows says my computer is connected to the wifi network but when i open firefox or internet explorer it just doesn't work. I am using windows xp pro.
