Im using XP and the classic start menu. I like how under documents I can view my documents but I dont like how it shows recently used documents. How can I make it so that it does not show this.

View 2 Replies View Related"My Recent Documents" link on the start menu has disappeared. I formatted my HD. Added all the new updates from Micrsoft, my antivirus, Tweak UI, MS Word and nothing else yet when I went to the start menu and the My Recent Documents wasn't there. I went to the Properties (right-click on taskbar) and it's not there either. As a matter of fact there is no link or short cut or place to activate it anywhere.

It's redundancy not to my liking to have My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, and to have My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu; which lead to the same folders.
Is there a way to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, while still retaining their Start Menu functionality?
When I try to view documents in My Documents, I get the message that explorer must close down and sorry for the inconvenience. What could be causing this, and how can I cure it.

I keep my docs and importante files on a hard drive separate from my C: hard drive where I have XP Pro SP2 installed. On my second hard drive (E I have a folder called My Documents. I know that the normal My Documents link in explorer is some kind of dynamic link because it points to Document and Settings user My Documents.is it possible to change the path that the explorer My Documents use to point somewehre different than the Docs and Settings path.
I want to remove the shared documents folder from everywhere but I want to keep the my documents folder in my computer.i am using winxp sp2.

If I remember correctly, I had to create a new BMP file of certain dimensions, and use Adobe Photoshop to create a layer of vertical text, give the new file the same name as the old one, change the extension for the old file, and put the new one in the same location. Although I am the administrator of this computer, I am unable to access "Documents," (I get this error message: "C: Documents and Settings All users Documents is not accessible. Access is denied" )and furthermore I am unable to change the folder's setting in "sharing and security" to "share" this folder. Additionally, I am blocked from access to the Shared Music and Shared Picture Samples that come installed on XP Pro. View 8 Replies View RelatedI discovered that when I opened the Drop Down Menu in My Documents to move some image files into their appropriate folders, that My Documents which normally has the + next to it, that you click on to show all of your folders, well that is gone. Now I have to open an existing folder in My Documents and go back, in order for the + sign to appear. I then create a restore point.Today, for the first time ever, I needed to restore my computer to a previous date because my XP view changed to Classic view and the option to change it back to XP view wasn't available. But the restore points that I saved were not available. I was given a choice of July 1,2,3,4 and 5. The last time I created a restore point was last Monday, June 27th,but when I clicked on the << arrow to go back to the month of June, it wouldn't go back.What happened to the restore points that I created and why couldn't I access them?I know that they were saved because I received a message that they were created.And I have no idea why my XP view changed to Classic View when I turned my computer on yesterday.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have lost all of my files within My Documents. All the folders remain, but all of the actual files are missing. No system changes have been made, nothing new was installed. I have run virus scans (I'm using SymantecAV Corporate) AdAware, Spybot S&D with nothing found.
They're still there somewhere, as the user folder properties show the correct size for the folder and number of documents, but not initially - right clicking on the folder to display properties shows a small number at first and then it gradually counts up. Properties for My Documents shows a small number of folders, all empty.
I've bought a new external drive, which I want to store all my documents on. How do I redirect My Document to save to this drive?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have lost my start menu I also have lost the bottom task bar. In addition the views have all changed on the tool bars. For example, on the internet explorer tool bar, the icons are on top of each other or otherwise unaccessible. Several programs no longer work and I get error messages as follows "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect..." I hit control-alt-delete, nothing happens.
I went to Housecall and ran a virus scan and nothing showed up. I had previously installed (many months ago) SpyBot S&D. As noted above, this is one of the programs that will not run and I get the error message. I tried to uninstall this program and then reinstall it. After downloading the program, I still got the above error message that the application configuration is incorrect.
I tried to start in safe mode. Although I cannot get to system configuration utility, I was able to get to safe mode by hitting F8 as the computer was starting. I selected safe mode and then selected Windows XP as the operating system. The next screen had the words safe mode in each corner and a Log On window in the middle.
