Running XP with 'CLASSIC' style menus. When I display PROGRAMS in the START menu, it only displays 3 or 4 items and then it has two Down Arrorws at the bottom of the menu, which I have to click to get the full menu. Is there some setting causing this to happen?

If you check DISABLED only the XP style Start menu can be displayed.If you check NOT CONFIGURED the user can change the view.
I've just had to rebuild my XP Pro laptop (and not for the first time).Before I rebuilt it I had classic start menus (so I must have set them last time)I've clicked on the 'classic start menus' box in the right place but I'm still getting the new start menu When I go to the taskbar/start menu properties it says I'm using classic - but I'm still getting the new start menu.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to remove and/or edit the words: Windows XP Home Edition from the left side of the Classic Start menu? I did it with Windows 98. If I remember correctly, I had to create a new BMP file of certain dimensions, and use Adobe Photoshop to create a layer of vertical text, give the new file the same name as the old one, change the extension for the old file, and put the new one in the same location. Is the method for the Classic Start menu in Windows XP the same.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some strange reason my Start Menu items/shortcuts have been deleted (in both my Documents & Settings folder and 'All Users'), except for a blank shortcut (no name, no link) with the 'My Computer' icon. The weird thing is the Start Menu folders and their contents are in tact.Initially I thought I accidentally deleted them so I manually created a few shortcuts back to some of programs, but after restarting Windows, they were gone again and only that mysterious blank shortcut appeared again!I did a full system scan with Norton AntiVirus 2007 and AVG Anti-Spyware and they didn't find anything.

For the fastest computer experience possible I recommend changing this value to zero. This will allow the different tiers to appear instantly.Start Regedit. If you are unfamiliar with regedit please refer to our FAQ on how to get started. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop Select MenuShowDelay from the list on the right. Right on it and select Modify. Change the value to 0 Reboot your computer. Note from forum Admin - a setting of zero (0) is virtually instantaneous - experiment with other settings (200 or 300 or 400 perhaps) to see what you are most comfortable with.

But I have more than that and they don't show all ( have XP).
I remember I think in Win 98, I could go into Explorer/Filemanager, then move Programs around into Main Folders in the START folder or a folder of my choosing and make the columns shorter. I don't find where I can do this in XP. I tried as Adminstrator, myself, Guest, nothing works. XP just keeps the way it has decided to show them. I want Office:and its programs, Utilities with its programs, Graphics, Organizers, Toshibastuff, Webstuff, etc, all similar programs in a subfolder to choose from, instead of having to open Explorer to find them, because Windows own Tables don't show them all.
I understand how to make Office applications always show full menus instead of collapse to only show the most recently used, but I want to do that same thing in my Start button. I have Windows XP Professional, but I have it configured in Start Menu Properties to use the Classic Start Menu. So when I click Start, then hover over Programs, it pops out the side menu, and that side menu always only shows the two or three folders or solo icons I've used recently. That is sooo annoying.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP/SP2 a newish computer and some things changed from how it used to be.From the *Start* Button, there is the further button *Programs*. This then has the fly-out menu which used to open only the most recently accessed programs. Typically, after a boot it would show the items which opened in *Start-Up*, the rest were accessible only by hovering the mouse cursor over a button showing downward pointing arrows (more chevron like). This would then open the entire sub menu of programs to choose from. However, in the past week it now opens in that expanded view all the time. There is no sign of the little arrows anymore, and I always end up with a screen full of program lists whenever I go to Start/Programs.

2: I have 2 computers that are virtually the same. Both have XP Pro opperating system. I am the webmaster for a couple of sites. there is a menu at the left of the site. On one computer the menu will display on the other is will not. The menue is an applet code . Is there a setting on the second computer that I am missing to display this menue?
3: for years I used Norton. When I loaded XP I used it a day or so and then loaded Norton on that PC. It slowed it down very much. So much that I took it back off. Now I need a suggestion on what virus scan will be as good as Norton but not slow my PC down so much.
I have experienced a sudden problem starting programs. The computer boots correctly, and all desktop icons appear correctly. But when I double click a desktop icon, or start a program from the start menu, I get a popup window displaying a list of programs and asking me which program I want to use to start the application. I select the correct program (or browse to the appropriate .exe file), but still the application doesn't start. This includes IE and Windows Messenger. My virus scanner was about the only thing that I could start up, and I did a system scan with Panda Anti-Virus, but it didn't show anything substantial (just some cookies).Using my WinXP set up disk,I've tried to do a repair (I guess reinstallation without reformatting the hard disk), but after I entered the License Key, the computer did a reboot and then stopped. It is stuck on the XP splash screen and won't go any further (I once let it run over night, but it was still frozen on the splash screen). I even tried to repeat the repair process, but that didn't work.Automatic updates did download an update just before this problem started (I think it was the day before the problems began). I don't know what this update was and I'm not sure it was SP3 (system does have SP2 installed).Considering that the computer freezes now when booting up, is there anything that I can do short of reformatting the Hard Drive? I also have another hard drive that I can use to install XP onto. Is there any way that I can rescue the data from the old Hard Drive and transfer to new drive?

All I did was uninstall yahoo! mail, yahoo! toolbar, dell media experience, yahoo! extras, and mtv optimizer off my computer.
