"My Recent Documents" link on the start menu has disappeared. I formatted my HD. Added all the new updates from Micrsoft, my antivirus, Tweak UI, MS Word and nothing else yet when I went to the start menu and the My Recent Documents wasn't there. I went to the Properties (right-click on taskbar) and it's not there either. As a matter of fact there is no link or short cut or place to activate it anywhere.
My wife has a new notebook with Win XP Pro (SP2). I'd like to add My Recent Documents to the Start Menu, but I've looked everywhere, and I can't find that option.
If it is possible, and how to do it, to delete the My Recent Documents which shows up in the Start menu in XP. If that cannot be done easily, is it possible to delete the entries that appear there.
Im using XP and the classic start menu. I like how under documents I can view my documents but I dont like how it shows recently used documents. How can I make it so that it does not show this.
I started up my PC yesterday and I couldn't believe my eyes!I have looked all over the net and cannot find anything like this. Here is the description:The PC loads windows, but instead of going to my desktop screen... I get to an open windows explorer window (open to my desktop list) - my start up menu and taskbar are GONE.Everything else works.... my programs, my files, my user config.everything, I went into control panel and clicked on taskbar... nada... nothing happens checked anti virus.. nada.I have another physical disk (d with windows and when I swithc it to be the boot up disk, I get windows like usual, but none of my user configuration.... and the programs from the original disk do not load.
operating system is windows xp All the desktop icons, start menu and task bar is gone except a picture of the wallpaper. Am using a different PC to sent this message.
This seems to have occurred in conjunction with my switching from add-in video card back to the on-board display adapter (something I've done numerous times before without a problem). Perhaps it's unrelated. No other functional problems that I've seen.I ran AVG anti-virus scan, as well as CounterSpy spyware scan. Both found zero problems.
I have Window XP operating system and can no longer access the control panel. The icon is no longer available on my Start Menu. There is an icon called Set Program Access and Defaults and when I click on it it tells me "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". This is a private home computer, not on a system. Though I am a regular computer user I have few technical skills and may have entered an incorrect command.
This is my first post, and it's a small issue, but help would be appreciated. I run XP Pro with SP2 on a Compaq Presario laptop. Each time I open "my recent documents" from the Start menu and delete an item, the whole list closes and I have to open again, and go through that each time for multiple deletes. How can I keep the list open and do multiple deletes at one time?
in my start menu My recent documents folder it always displays as empty Ive activated it following Start>Properties>Customize>Advanced> Checking the box under recent documents history...but files that open wont appear..
Also I went to the registry and did the following under and in the entry NoRecentDocs History put the value to 0 and it still would work. I don't think I have the Tweak UI program on my Machine, I did not see it in my control panel, still I removed a app. called Power Toys for win, having this still no effect on the situation
Normally when you open or access a document or file it is added to the list of recent documents on the Start Menu. This tweak will stop files from being added to the list. Open your registry and find the key below. Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoRecentDocsHistory' set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction. Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take effect.
I'd like to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents. Though whenever I do, the My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu will not open.
It's redundancy not to my liking to have My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, and to have My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu; which lead to the same folders.
Is there a way to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, while still retaining their Start Menu functionality?
The "documents" option (which displays recent documents) is missing from my start menu. I have tried EVERYTHING! Does anybody have any idea how to get it back. There is no obvious, intuitive way to do this.
Ive just turned my computer on and windows keeps failing to run, the reason given is this 'Windows did not start properly due to recent hardware changes' I have run windows using the options 'Last known good configuration' and 'Start windows normally' but they lead to a blue screen which reads 'A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to protect your computer' tells me i need to uninstall anti-virus and run chkdisk /f but i cant do anything as its a blue screen, i have no mouse etc.
I went on the internet and as soon as my home page came up everything disappeared. All I was left with was the picture I had on the desktop. The taskbar was gone so I shut it off & restarted. When it did a disk check all kinds of things came up & when it finally started the taskbar was still missing as well as all my documents, pictures, settings, favorites, ect. My entire user account disappeared! I right clicked on the taskbar area and pulled up part of the start menu but I can't access the system tools to try a restore point. It is no longer in the start menu. I tried going in my wife's user account but same problem. At least all her documents are there.
I just installed WindowsXP SP3. After that I loose the access to the Documents and settings/username/ contents. The drawers are there (antivirus scanners parse them) but I can't navigate them neither in explorer neither with command dos emulation.
I obviously set all the check in window-options to see hidden files. I use Firefox but SP3 installed Explorer on my comp.
When I used to double click on the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop, 2 folders would appear at the top of the page when it opened.1 folder was called 'Shared Documents' and the other 'My Documents'.Problem is, the 'My Documents' folder has suddenly disappeared. It is still on the desktop and I can access my work from there, but I would like it to appear back in 'My Computer' again.
I have lost my documents and settings somewhere.I click on my computer, local disk c:, then the document and setting folder. All that's in there is the all user folder. When I right click on the d&s folder, it says there is 8.64GB, which is about right. When I click on the all user folder, it's only 60.0MB.So I am assuming its somewhere, I just don't know how to get it back. Also, my favorites in Explorer disappeared, too. When I try to go back and add some that I already had, I get the message that it already exists.Could the folder somehow got hidden?
My computer did this really weird thing. I restarted my computer this morning, and to my horror, all my documents had disappeared. There were only three folders in my documents - My Music, My Pictures and My Videos, and these only contain the standard sample stuff. Basically, my user is like new again! All my installed programs were there however.
I had a registry problem, in that when I booted up my laptop, it said a hive file for the SOFTWARE key was damaged. I fixed this by going into recovery console and restoring the registry backup. So now Windows starts again and everything is good. All of my files are still in tact. However, my settings are all gone. Even though my files are on the hard drive, the appearance of everything is as if Windows has just been installed. In Documents and Settings, the reason is revealed.
one of the user profiles in Windows XP Pro has disappeared. I cannot recover the files because the folder in Documents and Settings has disappeared too. I am running a virus scan now
My problem is that, the Shared folder and "User's documents" folder in My Computer window, in XP Pro are not visible. I think it s possible that the registry keys are missing.
all my top menu options for task manager are gone disappeared.i cant access the file, options, view, windows, help and the ones below that apps, processes & performance.
I recently have lost my quick launch feature on the task bar. Also when right clicking on the task bar my toolbar option is no longer available. Trying to retrace what I could have done lately but only remember playing with UI themes.
Running XP with 'CLASSIC' style menus. When I display PROGRAMS in the START menu, it only displays 3 or 4 items and then it has two Down Arrorws at the bottom of the menu, which I have to click to get the full menu. Is there some setting causing this to happen?
I have never been able to open a file extension "PPS" so I downloaded windows Power Point off the net & then the only way I could write was in a text box with no control over text size color paragraph
I am using Windows XP/SP2 a newish computer and some things changed from how it used to be.From the *Start* Button, there is the further button *Programs*. This then has the fly-out menu which used to open only the most recently accessed programs. Typically, after a boot it would show the items which opened in *Start-Up*, the rest were accessible only by hovering the mouse cursor over a button showing downward pointing arrows (more chevron like). This would then open the entire sub menu of programs to choose from. However, in the past week it now opens in that expanded view all the time. There is no sign of the little arrows anymore, and I always end up with a screen full of program lists whenever I go to Start/Programs.
can i create folders to put specific types of progs inside them as my all programs from the start menu is too long and needs tidying up i.e put photographic applications all together in one folder.
